Now, Jamaican access to the beach is being threatened as luxury developers buy up the land around them. I saw a report you guys did of how the Jamaican government is selling the beaches to all inclusive resorts. Therefore I absolutely dislike those all-inclusive hotels/resorts in the Caribbean. Beaches SHOULD be for public access.
Bingo, these resorts rely on exploiting the people there and I refuse.
They've been doing this for years and years. Before this, they continuously bulldozed homes and displaced people to build those same all-inclusives
Not to mention the money doesn't stay in Jamaica. And how did these foreign entities take care of their employees when the country shut down due to covid?
Do not forget there are many Jamaican-owned hotels and resorts that do not lock Jamaicans out of their beaches. If you love Jamaica, SEE Jamaica by not staying behind a fence. Check out Seven Mile Beach in Negril, for example
All beaches are free in Jamaica. No one can be prevented from accessing a beach by legal means. You’re just not allowed to enter private property from the beach.
Tourist areas are a small part of the island and there are free beaches all across the island - not just in the small tourist areas.
Disgruntled people put out propaganda and people keep repeating it. People are free to enter any beach that can be accessed but just can't access private property from the beach.
They’ve been squatting for many decades but can’t expect to always get something for nothing. Most Jamaicans have to work hard for what they have but these disgruntled people just want to be handed everything on a plate.
Many Jamaicans are reliant on the tourism industry - whether directly or indirectly. Tourists come from many parts of the world and many people welcome development of the island.
To my West Indies Jamaican brothers and sisters. We in Puerto Rico are dealing with the same problem. So is Hawaii. Don't let them grab your land. Once they get possession of it. You will never get it back.

That says a lot about the properties there. It's disturbing to see areas fenced off for 'preferred' people but keeping locals away in their native land.

Similar is happening all over the caribbean islands, even Puerto Rico. Gentrification of the locals in the benefit of foreign rich. They use the "LAW" and the titles to property, It all started with La Conquista Española, and the pilgrims on the north. There were people living in these lands, and in Hawaii, there were no exclusive titles to property, the land was for all to use. Now they come with exclusive titles to the land that the law recognizes. This is why socialist countries law states that the land belongs to the people, and so does what is in the land, socialism recognizes personal property and that you own the fruit of your labor.

What this report is not telling you is the real on the ground truth. The official name of this beach is Thomas Beach. It was a Rastafarian living in the U.K. who claims to have called this beach "Bob Marley Beach" among the Rastafarians. This Rastafarian in the U.K., who has lived in the U.K. since age 16, tried to claim a small piece of The Woof Group's land adjacent to the beach. He teamed up with the founder of this JaBBEM, who is featured in the report, and with another Jamaican Rastafarian attorney took the matter to Court in Jamaica and lost. Since then, this JaBBEM founder has been using the local media and now Al Jazeera to try to intimidate The Woof Group. If Al Jazeera had done proper fact-checking, they would have found out that the brother of this same Thomas family in the video was murdered in 2022 by some gang members by being shot in the head right there on the lands owned by The Woof Group. The father of this same Thomas family had to flee the island for fear of his life is what's being said and he just suddenly died in Africa where he appears to have been hiding. Another Rastafarian was also murdered by gunshots as well as his father shot up on this same beach. Years back, there was prostitution and drugs on the beach. Very, very few Jamaican's would venture going to this beach as the area is known for violence. The fact is that The Woof Group decided to make a major investment in this place that NO ONE ELSE would have even thought of doing. St. Thomas parish has been known as "the forgotten parish" as no investors ever considered this parish for investment. Look at the condition of the beach with these horrible shacks. What is there to boast about? This area is known for gangs and drugs. The Woof Group company is changing this area for good. Al Jazeera should be ashamed of doing such a poor job checking the facts, which are all public in the local media. Shame on you Al Jazeera. Will Al Jazeera provide jobs for all these poor people in this parish? Can these poor people eat the sand on the beach and feed their kids with it? I am not surprised by all the superficial comments I have read given that most people do not even read books any more or try to look into things themselves beyond the mere headlines. We live in an age of emotional one liners and herd mentally. Critical thinking goes beyond running with the herd. I have been saying this for the longest of times but some of my own people have turned against me in their nativity. From what I can see is that these foreigners are slowly taking over your island by pushing the locals inwards and the sea view areas and beaches all around the island is being developed with luxury apartments and homes and soon you will be made to feel like second class citizens in your own country. Both parties are owned by the wealthy. Both parties get told what econ policies to follow by the IMF due to debt trap instigated by the IMF and World Bank so voting out is extremely hard. The IMF doesn't give a shit how many of your people suffer as they only want to ensure you get enough USD to repay your loans. This shitty kind of tourism is what the IMF prescribes for Jamaica to get that USD. And it's what the elite Jamaicans who've also invested in this debt want. There is a flip side to this...Yes there are beaches such as Bob Marley beach where people keep the beach clean, but Jamaica of lately have been overwhelmed by a culture of littering and there are many beaches that the public has access to in Jamaica and they leave it nasty (even when the beaches have designated areas for garbage). We have to start with a conversation about our garbage in Jamaica because sometimes these documentaries can be misleading when there are a variety of different issues around the same situation. No I don't want the privatization of our beaches, but what are the majority of the people doing about the build up of garbage on our publicly accessed beaches (the ones that remain). Jamaicans need to get real because other people are beginning to see our lack of civic pride and are coming with their big bucks to ease us out of our land....our possessions....our happiness....where-ever in Jamaica it may lie whether in the mountains or on the coastline.

I use to enjoy going to salt river. But as per usual, there is a small minority who are intent on spoiling the experience for everyone. Because it is free, every ill bred scoundral can just turn up. They built those homes themselves and they're stewards to the land. They want to make sure that everyone can access the beach, even poor local families who could never afford to go to the expensive tourist places.
Can you imagine a world where people could no longer access the beach unless they are staying at a hotel? Locals couldn't go for a walk in the morning, or spend an afternoon there with their family on the weekend.
The government is serving the tourists and foreign developers instead of its own people. That's incredibly shameful.
