I honestly think it’s to the episode’s detriment. It’s just like Vindicators all over again. Telling an actually interesting story takes a backseat to relentless yet ultimately shallow pointing out of genre tropes.

So in the season 3 finale, the US President reveals that the Government had contact with literal deities, and that they've bound and imprisoned Poseidon. In this episode we met the actual Greek god Hephaestus. So that means the other Olympians have to be real. I really want to see Rick interact with Zeus.

Heistotron literally says "Welcome to heistotron's 975 Trillion 467 Billion 7..." So since earth only has 7 Billion we can assume that Rick killed 975,460,700,000,000 beings, give or take a few tens of millions.
Morty is the key to everything.

And when the twist was revealed I wasn't even surprised that is totally something Rick would do.

I get a weird feeling Inception is a guilty pleasure of Dan; he's had Inception in Rick and Morty before (2nd episode of season 1) and the Inception thing was the only reference that didn't come with Rick complaining about how dumb it is...

I pulled off a heist while watching this i put popcorn for 2 min while getting a drink and then a minute later planted my dog to run downstairs so i could say I have to get the dog and get the popcorn right when it finished and finally cover the popcorn with the dog so they would see it. Its genius

To me, there is only one true "heist movie" all the others are just reskinned versions of that single one.
Get crew>get in>goes wrong/someone beat them to it>it was all according to plan.
Rather have a movie where a couple of friends see something shiny and it gets into the gritty/grimy details of how they get to it. With no bullshit "I am the master of X, Y *and* Z because of plot", they're just some guys with a general idea how things work. Hell, maybe even blueball us for once by having them *fail* to get what they're after and end up captured for an "escape" sequel.

The key concept of Inception is the actual inception. Making some one believe something that you want them to believe, while making them think it was their own idea... like Morty fell prey to his own disillusionment.

I was honestly pretty meh on this episode. Some of the jokes were great but overall it felt like a less bad version of Vindicators.
When the show has its mind set on clowning/deconstructing a particular subgenre, be it heists or superheroes, it gets so caught up in lampooning shallow common tropes it forgets to be clever or have decent structure.
This is the best episode ever. I don’t watch heist movies like oceans. I saw now you see me but never see the second. This shit is funny tho.

1) I think they're laughing at the idea of some person leaving that red origami thing enough times that Rick actually knows their name. 2) It's common to say X-Off for any sort of competition. Off doesn't mean contest, but it implies the start of a contest, just like "kick-off" in football. 3) They're pissed off because Elon Tusk put the turkey that was finished cooking and ready to eat in the freezer instead of eating it.
I know this is meant to be a criticism of heist movies... but I took it as a commentary on how useless and cheap it is to subvert the expectations of the audience. Like when Rick entered the room and ate the pigeon. It didn’t matter that it wasn’t expected because it didn’t mean anything. Like everything in season 8 of game of thrones...
