Watching it for the first time brought about strong John carpenter vibes and after watching the BTS after the episode, explaining the homage to Carpenter 80s horror style and how they used that as the foundation for this episode made it even more satisfying! Loving this season and how they are creatively using bits and pieces from past episodes/ seasons and expanding on the story and characters. But about the tribute to Mike Mendel. Theyve had that cartoon of mike and his dog for the past two seasons and you're just now noticing it? Ok, I can see that happening but you thought it was for the dog? Whuuuuuuut
Even though Night Family was a reference to Night Gallery which explains the soundtrack. I feel like it also had a reference to Us aswell, like with the female protagonist being the leader of it all and the way everyone was speaking being like her too
Also the plot twist when Summer turned out to be Night Summer in disguise, was pretty reminiscent of when Lupita Nyongo as the normal mother turned out to be the tethered in the end.

The robots were an homage to the bad robot in Disney's Black Hole (one of them) and Dr. Who's Daleks. Movie had a lot of possible references though the most recent one that comes to mind is Us.

For the past 11 years the only things I don't put in the dishwasher have been non-stick pans. Everything goes in, I never rinse anything and everything comes out spotless always. So yeah... night family needs to shut up. Surely with Rick there their dishwasher is better than mine.
They don't have a dishwasher. Their kitchen is a bunch of cabinets, a sink, and a fridge next to the stove. Rick doesn't do the dishes and therefore doesn't care about it. He also will go out of his way to not make any concessions for no other reason than ego. He might be intellectually a genius, but he's emotionally an idiot. It's a character flaw that's the cause of most of his problems.
Night Summer IS Rick's wife. Remember when the night family accosted him and made him eat the leftover food off the dish? Before that, Night Summer said "I have always been here, deep inside the mind of your grandchild, waiting to come out." So, Rick's wife, as Night Summer, probably always hated that Rick never rinsed his dishes, and she finally found an opening to force him.
Or it's the side of Summer that wants to be the top dog and is tired of doing the shit other people don't wanna do while being ridiculed for doing it wrong? Which is what Rick constantly has Summer do and constantly berates her for? I prefer your idea though. Maybe that's why Morty's got a little bit of Rick in him? That just means Naruto's one fucked up giant incest space baby. I was cool with Naruto before but now it's going too far.
