“And my favourite is entitled Boredom” - have always loved that Buzzcocks reference.
Even though i am listening to this as a 70 year old on 1st March 2021, i still love it, a very catchy number, they just don't make music like they used to.
I’m 55 and he pinched my haircut ha ha
yes they do, you just have to know where to look.
@@BP-vj2lv Giz a clue then
I’m 60 man I a metal head when this was out but discovered it a couple months ago. Very cool it’s new to me
You’re a gem, Peter 💖
The incredible sound of the eighties like it was yesterday.
What a killer bass line! And Edwyn looks charming like never before. The heroes of young Scotland...
The Roland TB303 bass machine. The most difficult machine ever, while this bass line is too complicated, it means... respect!!
@@antonioskoutsoyiannis6575 Except he was playing it on a bass-guitar for this performance. Bloody great song though...I'm tempted to buy the album it's from actually!
@andreeopthof376
Aaaaah..there it is - the scottish reference. Where would the scottish be without anyone to be scottish at??
@@cquilty1 Yes, you are right. Where would the british music scene be without the Scots??? JAMC, Orange Juice, Primal Scream, Alan McGhee, Jesse Garon & The Desperadoes, Wishing Stones, Josef K., Aztec Camera, Shop Assistants, BMX Bandits, Teenage Fanclub, Soup Dragons, Vaselines, Franz Ferdinand, Belle & Sebastian, Associates, Bluebells, Altered Images, Del Amitri, Idlewild and so on. And that's only the Indies... Not to speak of the majors like Wet Wet Wet, Simple Minds, Proclaimers, Deacon Blue, Texas, Amy MacDonald and others.
@andreaopthof376
The professional scotswoman strikes again! Maybe simply just try to enjoy music immaterial of the nationality of bands. You can do it, wee lassie!!
Yes. I know I'm right. Thank you.
PS. You forgot the Bay City Rollers:) And Wet Wet Wet, Texas, Simple Minds and Deacon Blue?? *Looool!!!*
Possibly the best band to come out of Scotland. They were at their absolute height here.
Deacon Blue IMO.
@@GaryM1967 Lol!!
Aztec Camera!
Edwyn Collins is proof it was possible to go through the 70s, 80s, and 90s free from the unfortunate fashion trappings of each decade, looking cool the whole time…
Couldn’t agree more.
Sound of my youth and how I wish I was back in the 80’s….life was simpler then….
You mean life before the internet?
Pre democrat
less foreigners
When they were younger. Life has always been simpler when we look back
I hear that intro and immediately I am 18 again and back home in Glasgow.
Bloody hell, nearly 40 years. Finally got to see him in the 90s while I was working in Tokyo. Edwyn is a musical great, god bless!
Simply thrilled to see Ed & the boys rip it up again.
Great live version. One of best songs of eighties, guitar power. Love them.
Jeepers 40 yrs ago Edwyn looks about 10! Brilliant memories
Another fantastic classic from the 80s, absolutely timeless.
What else is like this? Just fond about it😂
@@Matsoni85 try listening to the smiths, new order, the housemartins, the thompson twins then get back to me and tell me what you think, another one is Lloyd Cole and the commotions, I hope I have been helpful I could go on and on.
I'm 42 yrs old...yall came out with this bad ass beat in 82' and I still dance alone drunk in my house to this. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO BE BITTER WHILST LISTENING TO THIS. VERITAS! ❤
Uuh
I love this. It starts out like the standard version then you get this distorted Lou Reed guitar feedback. Top shit.
Edwin Collins - Gifted Man - Can write a tune, Credit also to this very young band of great musician 1982 and all that XXX
s
"Arms stuck glued to my side" is possibly my favourite line in post punk pop.
Postcard was clearly bad for arms: see also Josef K's line: "You know I'd help you if I could but both my arms are made of wood".
@@momasu At least by the time of his debut solo album, Edwyn was willing to put his arms around you (apparently not for the first time😺).
One of the best songs ever made
Recorded this onto VHS tape and watched it a zillion times. You can't hide your love forever is still in my top 5 albums greatest albums of all time. We love you Edwyn you songwriting genius!
What a brilliant decade the 80s was
So true! Spirit and magic then that faded into the 90s and non existent in the 2000s.
I was a 14 year old geek when I first heard this track and I liked it a lot - I’m now 55 years young still a geek (albeit a cool one) and I’m still liking this track so much I’m still rinsing it in 2023 - it sounds just as good to me now as it did back then - well done OJ for this timeless track and also a long overdue well deserved thank you from me !
Absolutely fantastic, everyone bang on their game , fantastic
I like the energy the drummer brings
brilliant live performance
Great to see a live performance of this classic. The Old Grey Wrinkly Testicle was a great show. A wee bit before my time but anyway.
grew up with my dad playing this on LP. one of my favorites
fantastic
So great to watch live. Great song
Absolutely brilliant 👏
I saw him at the end of October or start of November, in Bearsden he made me a cup of tea at our old house didn't realise he had been on the old grey whistle test
Fab song, what a voice!
Saw Edwin live in the early 90s with Paul Cook on drums, really good gig! He hated playing "A girl like you" though, he said how much he hated being so popular!
I think his mind changed on that, after his cerebral haemorrhages. His wife highlights in her book, that the song effectively paid for his rehabilitation. The NHS can’t offer such intensive support- “A Girl Like You” royalties funded it.
Fantastic band.
Beautiful song
Seen Orange Juice play at The Royal Court in Liverpool in 1983. Seen Edwyn play a free gig in a pub in Portmahomack around 2014.
Amazing bass sound
Love Edwyn Collins. What a bloke!
Amazing. 🧡
Hard to believe that this recording is 40 years old, they look really contemporary.
So damn good.
Such a good song
for years I never realised the little guitar riff is from boredom by the buzzcocks, not sure why becuase he says "my favourite song is entitled bordeom"
Good spot
Absolutely fantastic
This is awesome
Great to have another clip of this up... perfect clarity for perfect pop. fave song. Cheers uploader !
This song is Dope!
I was born in 1989 and just came across it last year.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
A thing of beauty.
i still love orange juice they are brilliant live xxxx
I was 18 where have all the years gone
I still love this tune
I can hear this beautifull song every minutes love it and at night after a terrible day to see the beat of the guitarist and dance this makes my day , really love that i dont Know thé name of the guitarist but Welldone with the cherry on the cake Edwyn collins
Malcolm Ross (he'd joined just before this), formerly of Josef K (also played many a time with Aztec Camera).
superb, as usual
Superb, thank you for uploading!
Thank you!!!
excellent song!
Oh this is so good, I have this on 7 inch vinyl....
I really loved Edwin Collins and Orange Juice being Scottish.
Edwyn musical genius and complex lyric and love the beat
Fabulous clip
I watch the videos of Orange Juice not only because of the good 80ies music but mainly because of this guy Edwyn that looks like my dear friend and one and only love Joe. He looked so much like him and was also almost same old. He lost his life 1984 at only 26 y.o. and I still miss him so hardly...❤😢
@nelly8592 < < < Illiterate *TROLL.* Hush...
Love them
Timeless. I agree 👍 💯 with comments below that great new music 🎶 is there to be found. What is just as good is the treasure trove of people digging out these quality recording of original live performances that show the artists 🎨, often dismissed as lightweight 'pop' in my era, who we always knew were a bit special; and went on to do interesting and inspiring things. In adversity, in Edwyn's case. I have some prints of his bird drawings, as well as original vinyl.
Such a good band. Thank you r/LetsTalkMusic guy
Yeah! Brilliant!
Brilliant
that bass line!
Quality. School bus time.
That bass tone... distorted to infinity and beyond.
My Favourite song 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
So exciting when you discover a great new band😇
Bearsden uber alles. Mmmm. Saw you at the Fleagh playing Appetite for Destruction. Circa 1993. Wonderful in your deficits. Love you Edwyn.
FAB :)
Too cool...
Damn! Where have 4 decades gone to ...??
He got a deeeeeep voice.. Gr8 song
Another great Scottish band
Fresh as a daisy, this.
He was still living at Bonnaughton Road when this was recorded ,,
My old house
Hey, I’m not find behind you, but in my early/mid 50s (I don’t know) I gave up counting when I reached the “given up counting” age! If anyone ask me now, i tell them when I was born, let them let that work it out! LOL
Keyboard player to stylist.....
"Nah, I'm good"
loooool brilli@t mate
♥️♥️♥️♥️
So tight. Magic darts
my last year high school ftw
Gee, the music was really good back then!
Wow it's actually a live performance and not a playback recording
I still do this one in the shower - and the bassline...
Thanks for the upload. Anyone know about the bass sound on this recording?
Why do Scottish men have such distinct, wonderful voices?
Had the exact same thought while listening to F Rabbit the other night. It makes your whole experience of the songs so much more personal, something about the sonorous quality of the vocal tone.
I think it's a Celtic thing, the Irish and Welsh have distinct singing voices too.
Awful vocals!
did the Smith's AND the English Beat/General Public get their sounds from O.J. ?
Tight
I would suggest they do this rip it up and start again
2022, 27 year old taking inspiration
Goodbye sweet Prince
I am 7 years old and I find this tune uplifting and enriching. Better than i-oh-silva and the tuneyards. I hope I live to be old.
😂 Amazing how you joined UA-cam before you were born.
The coolest looking band on the block - with their 40-yr old uncle enjoying 15 minutes of fame with his bo-fant, gilet and yellow sweatshirt 😂
Does anybody know if Edwyn was using the B&M Fuzz back in these days?
I’m really surprised their albums have never been reissued. They’re sort of obscure, but not really. I’ve seen much more obscure bands get reissues.
I wish I could own the first two without spending $60 -100. It would be worth it if I could afford it of course, their music was so unique and original even among their post-punk contemporaries.
bassist using a quarter like a real one
Got the fold out,
Is The Old Grey Whistle Test the show that Matt Berry parodies with Richard Ayoade in the show Snuff Box?
Yes.
