This is a sweet video, Dan! I've been married for 20 years, and we always celebrate our anniversary but sometimes not on the exact day because of work and other things. We live in California. Sometimes getting dressed in the morning, we accidentally pick the same colors to wear. It makes us laugh. We also make jokes and stupid songs about everyday things so we are not so bored by them. I agree with you, that the more personal things that are done spontaneously with your heart are the most meaningful. You are very cute and sweet, so I hope you find a girl who appreciates you for being a kind and interesting person!

It seems those in Korea are so much more lovely & loving. So sweet. I have a giving, loving nature all year long so...I'd love all the days, but I agree. Writing & exchanging letters, preparing & sharing a special meal, going someplace fun together. That sounds better then just giving gifts. You will find your special match I'm sure. I think that's why your channel is doing so well! Your warmth & happiness really translate well on camera, so it's probably ten-fold in person! I'm going to buy that skincare for my boyfriend! I'm sure he'd love it!!! ❤️
I’m a giver and I love giving gifts but sometimes it becomes a pressure and disappointing when you don’t even get a small recognition like thank you or even just a smile … haha I like giving to see the happy faces when people get it!!

I actually find it very interesting that Koreans celebrate so many "love" moments. In one way it encourages you to show your appreciation to your loved ones. I, however, can see how the pressure of having to celebrate on certain days can become overwhelming. After all, I believe, showing love and appreciation towards others is an ongoing theme of actions. So many people forget that having that amazing relationship is about the work you put in each day. Just the small things, kindness, etc. So it's nice to celebrate Valentine's Day, etc., but if one only focuses on those big dates, the relationship is doomed. Nice video! :)

Great video, Dan! I discovered your channel only today, but I'm really glad I did . . . I think it's super interesting (and romantic) that Korea has such an "intense" Couple Culture. The last time I remember celebrating a "romantic" day like that was in middle school (12 years old), when the teacher made us bring candy for the entire class. I even learned how to draw a rose to "artistically" declare my love for my crush . . . too bad he rejected me for a more popular girl.
Also, I'm very impressed by your skincare routine--you're way more into it than I ever was (I'm a girl, but I don't even wear makeup). And you seem to have a really sweet personality (or maybe that's just your UA-cam persona?): any girl who dates you is going to feel like a princess!

I live in the USA amd my husband and I celebrate the first day he asked me to be his girlfriend (just going out on a date), our Wedding Anniversary (card/gifts/date), Valentine’s Day (gifts/date) and Sweetest Day (candy). We've been together nearly 20 years 💖

I've been with my bf for almost 10 years now, before, he used to give me one rose per month 🤭 and now we just love to enjoy simple dates without a real special day. As you say, most of the time we take people for granted, but I'd rather show my appreciation randomly than with such couple culture pressure :)
Tomorrow is white day there, which is great because I can give my son your skincare products. He was asking me to send him ideas, of which products to use. I really didn't know what to tell him, and was going to check on Google, but now I don't need to do that, thanks to this vlog. Being Korean American and only living in Korea for 18 months he and I are learning new things that most guys don't do in the states. You're our guide. That's a lot of celebrations. I would save the money of those small gifts and take a nice trip (like a weekend trip) at least once a year. Another way to celebrate love 😊

That's quite a lot! In my country, couples celebrate every month they're together (monthsary) until their first year. And from then they would be counting yearly. (Anniversary).
At first, I thought it's nice and more practical to celebrate every 100th day, but then my students told me about other celebrations like White Day and Peppero Day.
And now, I learned that every month, there's a supposed celebration as well. Whew!
Also, in my country, Christmas is celebrated with Family, and that usually goes through until New Year. I know that in Korea, it's Seollal and Chuseok that you celebrate with Family.

My late husband always told me not to worry about his birthday. One year we were going on a cruise and because I was all caught up in preparations, I forgot his birthday. This is why I'd be a horrible gf to a Korean person. I can't even remember my own bday, let alone the exact day I started dating someone, and I usually feel awkward if someone gets me gifts... even family memebers.

When I was newly married I was excited to get matching monogrammed wool sweaters for my husband and I. The excitement was short-lived because he put my sweater in the dryer which was a no-no. When it was done it was so shrunk up it wouldn’t fit the dog. Never got matching sweaters after that.

I love the way you explain everything is so cute and clear. Korean Valentine's it's amazing: one year ago i got my first couple ring and was so awasome because none in my life had ever gifted me with a gold ring with diamond: so i felt like a princess even i am western european girl from italy i had never experienced so amazing and deep feeling which is to receive a gift so important like a ring and after six months i got my first Platinum and all diamonds ring with necklace for marriage proposal. Thanks for sharing your tips for skin care. It is so important to take care of your skin! Your skin looks amazing. I live in the US, and skin care here is not as important to people. Not sure why, sometimes I think people are so busy they really do not take the time. I take 20 to 30 minutes morning and night, you just have to make the time!
Dan, thank you for listing those days for us. ... and you're right. It COULD BE a bit too much pressure, especially if you're not used to it.
I think it would be easier to just treat your significant other well *every day,* even in small ways (e.g., texts, notes, holding hands, a piggyback ride, small surprises, etcetera). That's just my opinion, of course. ...and I believe you'll find YOUR "someone"... when the time is right.

Probably why skin got so dry in Vegas is due to it's a super dry climate + in door air systems . If your normal routine had a "humectant" without adding a lipid type barrier on top it will draw moisture from the skin vs. hold it in. Interesting all the couple things in KR it is a nice way to foster mindfulness and appreciation. However would think some at official "announcement" could negotiate the celebration day expectations IE ok to gift on annual and his/her valentines days and the time count days no gifting but perhaps letters, handmade to time spent together.

Just want to say "Happy Valentine's day!" From the USA!
My impression is that dating in several Western countries is a very informal deal, but in Korea dating is more of an event, like being able to say "we're dating" is a bigger deal. Dan, is that how you think of it based on what you know of the dating styles of different countries? It seems like Korean daters get together and break up more frequently (?), which makes milestone dates more meaningful, like a demonstration you actually stayed together that long. Would love to know your thoughts. Thanks for the video, it was a good explainer! I do kinda wish we had more of a couples dressing culture in the West, but I've only really seen it on tourists in Hawaii, where her dress print matches his shirt print, and that's both awesome and cheesy at the same time.

I am fascinated with the sound of Korean. I lived in Japan (White day was so much fun!!) so I started watching Asian dramas lol! If you ever have time, please would you answer this question for me. It's been bugging me for so long.
I always loved the way actor Lee Syun Kun speaks. Recently I saw actor Lee Sung Wook on Netflix's The Silent Sea. He speaks with the same style - like a lisp maybe? Or is it an accent? To my ears Suga from BTS sings a little bit like that, too. I would really love a Korean expert to explain to me if it's an accent that Lee Syun Kun and Lee Sung Wook share? Or nothing!?? Or something else??
And I hope that you will upload content on dialects one day. My ears twitch with glee when I listen to Korean. Colette wrote that if you love language, even if you don't understand it, you realize it can take you to places unknown. Thank you for sharing those places so eloquently with us☺️☺️

It’s interesting how open people seem to be to kinda “show off” their relationship haha
In my country people deal with it very differently. Some people are quite open about it, even make out in public and others don’t even mention it because it’s private to them.
Couple clothing is not that common though, the closest would be carrying a photo around in your wallet or wearing a ring or any other accessory.
But I do think it’s nice that you have to say that you are in a relationship. Makes it easier to define what you are.
Sure, it’s not always important to exactly know what kind of relationship you have to someone but if the difference is too big, it might become a huge problem. What for one person could be a pure sign of being polite it could be seen as being romantic for the other one. So in that case, it might make your life easier, I think.
As I said here it heavily depends on the person. Some are direct, some keep on meeting each other for months and it’s the status “it’s complicated”.
But it also seems like there is kind of a general guideline in your country which could take the individualistic and special charm.
Hope you won’t ever feel too pressured about that. It’s a horrible feeling to feel pressured - especially in that kind of department.

There is nothing wrong being single on Valentine’s Day. It just mean you’re still working on yourself until the right person comes along, but I am single for 5 years.
