Well done guys for plug in the gorgeous Filipino sweets and desserts! The tourists vloggers or even local Filipinos have forgot how precious kakanin desserts are yummy enough to show the world how gorgeous them are...So we'll done. Cheers guys.
Next time try Red Ribbon and Goldilocks Bakeries ,they are big in US as well. My fave Filipino sweets/desserts are egg pie and buko pie wash down with Filipino hot chocolate. Bless you, guys and good luck.
Sans rival is a filipino pastry that you missed, its a filipino take on a similar french layered cake. And Halo-halo is best enjoyed mixed well and melted to almost a drink.
We hired a "dessert food guide" in MNL 5 years ago and she brought us to places different from yours. We NEVER tried anything with cheese on it!!!!!!! We also had food direct from street vendors and none from any shop/store/bakery. I soon learned one needs to properly vet your hired guide in the PI. She only showed us what she liked and would eat as opposed to showing us a wide range of Filipino food/desserts like what you guys have had (though I suspect your guide is very much into cheese.) We felt very underwhelmed as we had better experiences with Filipino restaurants in L.A. or Queens, NY. Every time we see a Filipino restaurant here in the US, we always stop and buy their breads and desserts (including sago drink and ube ice cream!!)
Oh that’s a shame! Our tour guide actually put this dessert tour together custom for us very last minute so I think that’s why she choose a shopping mall as we could have access to many dessert close by. Ube ice cream is also so yummy!
Bibingka originally made by DIY oven using charcoal as fuel is the best and cannot be compared to Bibingka sold in the city using the modern oven. Totally different....
U should have tried the traditional taho on d streets too, plus taho in Tagaytay City has blueberry flavor and Taho in Baguio City has strawberries and Ube flavored caramel ones. Fresh from their produce. As a Filipino im used to eat traditional taho from the vendor who goes around the village everyday plus the traditional one use sago or small tapioca pearls and i dont want it mixed too.
This is the first time I come across your YT channel and I just wanted to say, that I enjoyed both of your guys' facial reactions as you tried each Filipino dessert. Truly, they all taste yummy but of course, I have my own set of favorites. You uploaded this 9 days ago so maybe I should check out your more recent explorations...
The more traditional “desserts” in the Philippines are not really the sweet treats you have at the end of a meal. The various kinds of rice cakes and snacks are designed for one thing: carbo-loading. Wrapped in banana or bamboo leaves, these foods were designed to be a portable so it can be catered and peddled to farmers and workers who would be working kilometers away from the nearest kitchen.
Mascovado sugar paired with puto bungbong is made of sugar cane that extracted cooked in a very high heat fire and tell it dry that's why the taste is very deep, like u can taste little bit bitter and strong flavor and it's a healthy sugar and pure sugar cane .🤤🤤
@@TravellingYearbook6 muscovado was the traditional sugar before the advent mechanical centrifuges. most filipinos just use modern brown sugar on desserts which is a heresy! 😠

Philippines have the biggest range of pastries and desserts in the world. Yes I can claim that because we combine East and West in our food. The range of native pastries and desserts can differ from region to region. So many versions. We have Western style pastries and desserts but with Filipino flavour using native ingredients. We are unique in the world. We also have Western style cakes and pastries ❤
Hi guys, super interesting content and we're so happy we found your channel. Interesting to watch this for sure - a new sub from travelling couple now in Finland. It would be great to get connected better.
Hi, my first video and what a treat that was 😊. A good combination for a merienda (afternoon snack) is turon (make sure there's langka) eaten with ube ice cream 😋. Enjoy and now can't wait to follow the rest of your journeys 💙
they were able to try puto bumbong so food wise, they "kinda experienced" the Filipino Christmas and New Year lol. 😂 Puto bumbong, for the most part, is being sold outside Catholic churches during Simbang Gabi (Dawn/Night Mass) and Christmas/New Year's Eve.
8:12 actually, the flan is made of egg yolks, not egg whites... the egg whites were used to strengthen the building of churches way back the Spanish era... so they thought of a way to make use of the yolks.. hence, the leche flan...
Turon uses a different variety of Banana and it's called "Saba" and that is the secret of Turon. Saba is a wild variety of Banana and when it's ripe you still have to boil it cuz it's hard.
@travellingyearbook 😋😋🥰...😋 the puto bumbong and the bibingkang kawali...r always part of the Christmas celeb here in the philippines usually eaten alongside a cup of rich hot chocolate...but now it s available whole year round... my favorite s the turon it should have caramelized sugar coating...best w/ ice cream too...turon a la mode...enjoy u both and 🙏😊
@@TravellingYearbookif you can find it try sikwate (localized ancient mexican term for chocolate) or tablea. better than western hot cocoa. but finding high quality tablea is tricky.
The saltiness from bibingka must be from the salted eggs as a topping. My kids doesn’t like it with the salted eggs but I do 😊. It’s to balance the sweetness of the bibingka, same with the cheese on most Filipino kakanin- sweet and salty taste ❤. Halo halo is best when mixed well first so you get to have most of the stuff in one scoop esp with leche flan that makes the halo halo creamier. Try more kakanin next time like cassava cake, sapin sapin, nilupak, inutak, Biko and even Buko (coconut) pie. For cakes: brazo de Mercedes, sansrival, ube cake 😊
Adding leche flan to halo halo is just an excuse to make it more expensive and to add something filipinos can actually enjoy. A lot filipinos dont like much of the ingridients for halo halo
To experience the best tasting food I suggest you get suggestions from the locals. But turon found in SM malls is at par with the ones prepared by locals
Love turon! I love the traditional bibingka. Same with halo halo. The traditional halo halo is way better. I love sweets but I wouldn’t have it all in the same day 😂
So do we! We couldn’t believe how busy it was early in the morning too! We had already tried traditional halo halo so we thought we could try something different for this video!
strawberry taho from baguio is really good (def gotta try), the mall stuff is bad lol. sans rival from dumaguete is also really good (the best filipino dessert imo)
@@TravellingYearbook much better bath water, maybe? 🤣 I've tried it so many times since I was a kid, none of them is really apealling to me. The only time it tasted better is when you break up the soft tufo to smaller pieces so that it woyuld mix with the caramelized sugar water, otherwise it's just bland tufo.
You might be right with Taho being not sweet enough. The cheap version is very sweet. The tofu is bland so you must overpower it with sweetness to taste good but that serve looks like it didnt have enough sugar caramel.
filipino desserts are the best in the world in my humble opinion its not overly sweet and it's always best to partner in tea or coffee or any hot drinks or cold drinks...

Also, Taho that is sold in malls are extremely bad, I'm not even exaggerating, its always not good and doesn't do the original street Taho any justice, so always buy ones sold in the street in the morning

1. Bibingka is supposed to be dry because it is paired with coffee 2. Taho is an acquired taste dessert, even me i don't like it when i first try it before because it taste like bitter, sweet.
The Leche flan story is that... egg whites were emulsifiers for concrete. So during the spanish occupation in the philippines the churches where build using these egg whites so there was a over flowing supply of egg yolks.... thus the Leche Flan was born.

You don’t sip taho with a straw!!! You spoon it so you get the taste of the soy the syrup and the tapioca all together. It’s not boba drink! And the halo halo, you have to mix all the contents until some of the ice and the ice cream melt a little bit. I think that’s ube icecream that you are spooning and not the shaved ice.
