    There was something afoot in the criminal justice system because the initial judge that accepted the affluenza defense and sentenced couch to 10 years probation for killing 4 people. Gave a 10 year sentence to be served inside a juvenile detention center to a14-year-old black kid for punching a guy that fell to hit his head and died. Both incidents are equally tragic but the punishments are not! No one has asked the judge for why the difference in the sentences?

    This proves the injustice our justice system. I personally did 180 days jail, 3 years probation, alcohol ankle monitor, countless classes, AA 4 times an week and roughly $20,000 for a dui. I blew a 0.09 witch is 0.01 over the legal limit. Not saying I was in the right by drinking and driving. But no accident was involved but feel like my punishment was more severe than this guy who killed 4 people.

  • @missychelle33
    @missychelle33 6 років тому +26

    The prosecution just failed to do their job- all they had to do was take the approach that it takes a village to raise a child. His parents were not the ONLY people to have an influence on him. He went to school, he was put in social situations, he had friends and was able to navigate friendships obviously hence the 7 other people in his car that night, he had grandparents and aunts and uncles- he had MANY opportunities to learn and know the difference between right and wrong. Or else he would be a lonely quiet kid with no friends.

    • @truncate7
      @truncate7 5 років тому

      @Missychelle33 I watched this travesty of US Texas justice, from the UK (2019/03 yeah, old news to you guys) and think there's a bigger picture here. Yes, he went to school, but just as charity begins at home, so does the training of a child. From washing hands before sitting at the family table to eat as a family, thus, teaching not just table manners but also socialising over a meal. In light of the apparent lack of discipline, I think the background of the parents could be questioned. "Spare the rid to spoil (in Ethan's case, ruin) the child". Did the parents come from a background of deep hardship leading them to spoil however many children they may have had to give what they didn't have as a child?? Yes, Ethan had 'friends' but were they friends because their parents' were of a similar financial background as his and were equally 'privileged' from a young age??? Where the school attempted to raise the impropriety of an underage child/pupil driving himself to school and the father's response was he'd buy the school (according to the report received in UK), displays a level of arrogance. Again, what was the parent's social circle like??? Could go on, but you see how deep that pit is!!!🤔🤔

    "It's the best they could do." No it wasn't. The family is wealthy, so they're in good with the elites within their community. The judge is very likely part of that higher echelon. It was a courtesy, pure and simple. He did the best he could do for the family, not the victims. When they violated probation and ran, his hands were tied legally, so he gave them the minimum sentence given the severity of the crime of fleeing.

    I think that as long as alcohol exists and society accepts it, it is hard to hold anyone responsible for their behaviour when they are under the influence.

    Insane racism in this sick horrible country. They talk about how bad it is overseas and how they treat their citizens. We are just as bad over here. This kid was on the verge of losing his whole life for this. I agree he should have been punished but then you need to punish people across the board. Rich white kid, Ethan Couch, took his families truck, drove to wal-mart stole and stole drugs, got behind the wheel while his blood alcohol level was THREE times over the limit, crashed into a car on the side of the road and

      Says the guy that's on a smart phone or computer, has food in the fridge, even has a fridge, etc. You don't understand the struggles of those that went through communism, socialism, etc.
      And don't give me the nonsense about Denmark, Sweden, etc. They are free-market capitalist (not socialist) countries , where their capitalism pays for the nationalized health care, education, etc.

    I’m sorry but as the saying goes, with friends like this why do you need enemies! I would not as easily forgive somebody who hasn’t so much as shed a single tear in front of all the cameras he’s had in his face. Showing responsibility and actually feeling responsibility are two totally different things.

    Just because he’s getting away with it here doesn’t mean he doesn’t get away with it when he’s judged by God. God is good, he’s gonna get his when he dies.
    Unless he shows some real repentance. He’s gonna have to really show and prove it though.
