Agreed. MCIS is my personal favorite out of their discography. They've been my favorite rock band since 93, and MCIS is the soundtrack to my adolescence.
@@kb_78 I'm definitely jealous. 😂 I didn't see them for the first time until the Machina tour (I was about 16-17). I saw them again in San Francisco for the first reunion show in 2007, after their 7 year hiatus. I've met everyone but D'arcy. I met Billy twice, but I'd trade it all to have been able to see them during the MCIS era.
@@GhostlyEcheveriaMachina tour was fire though. I have been going to shows still when they are near. I’ve gone to over 22 SP/Zwan shows. My highlight is I won a ticket through the SP official site to go to NYC to see the live recording of VH1 Storytellers. It was incredible to say the least.
That little riff at 5:09 of Soma is my favorite of all time. Still gives me goosebumps 1,000 listens later. The Siamese Dream guitar tone is one of the greatest ever conceived in my opinion. It sounds "sonic," like it's on a rocket shooting through outer space.
hell yes this album is essential 90s alt rock recs: Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland Belle And Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister
I think saying it sounds like a Nirvana x MBV lovechild is very astute. Nirvana and The Pumpkins are connected in ways. They were popular at the same time, both Billy Corgan, and Kurt Cobain dated Courtney Love. There was probably a bit of rivalry there, but still very different bands. The Pumpkins weren't officially considered grunge, but they definitely incorporated aspects of grunge into their music. And while they weren't really considered shoegaze at the time, they are considered to be on the spectrum of the genre now. The Pumpkins have been my favorite rock band for over 30 years now, and I still get goosebumps every time I listen to their music. Also, Soma and Mayonaise are two of the most beautiful rock songs ever written.
In my top three favourite albums of all time. This one is special to me personally. Their ability to craft fuzzy epics, romantic love songs and catchy hits is unrivaled. The three song run from Soma to Mayonaise is one of the best three song runs of all time, in my objective opinion. Billy Corgan is a vastly underrated guitarist. The soloing on this album is absolutely mind blowing, I implore anyone who plays guitar to try and learn how to play Geek USA. It's baffling. Also, the drummer, Jimmy Chamberlin, a jazz drummer by education, is widely regarded as one of the best drummers alive, so he's really the key, along with Billy. Them two practically made this album by themselves in the studio, partly due to the fact that Billy was an absolute control freak and he wanted everything to be perfect, which the other guitarist and bass player didn't appreciate so much, but hey, the product speaks for itself. Anyway, thanks for the reaction 👍🏻
So glad you finally got around to this album. One of my favorites. It's funny because it isn't considered shoegaze but it clearly has many shoegaze elements to it. I think one of the guys from slowdive was asked what his favorite shoegaze album was and he said this one. But yeah. amazing album front to back. Would love to hear you do their followup to this Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness sometime. Also one time when I was 14 I went to Deep Ellum in Dallas for Halloween(it's where all the music venues are) and I saw Billy Corgan(the lead singer) waling down the sidewalk with like 5 or 6 bodyguards and the bodyguards were just pushing people onto the street and Billy was laughing. So love the music but he is a douchebag. Anywayyyyy Recommendations! Oneohtrix Point Never - R Plus Seven(ON GOD, you will listen to this someday ON GOD) Lil Ugly Mane - Volcanic Bird Enemy and the Voiced Concern(but maybe listen to this first?) Arca - Kick I-IIIII(Five crazy albums, it'll be an adventure, trust me, I'm a trustworthy guy)
Billy is a known fan of shoegaze, for their album Gish they were already inspired by My Bloody Valentine. When asked about the song Daydream, Billy said he wanted to recreate a My Bloody Valentine song. So there's that
