My comment disappeared? I went in April. I have celiac disease. There are luckily a bunch of good gluten free places across Tokyo but I’m sure your partner has already scoped those out and put them on the list. I did find one safe onigiri in 7-11, the red salmon and salt, for future reference.
I feel for you man, I was a cook for 8 years and we had a regular with Coeliac, I got used to preparing her food special to make sure there wasn't even traces of gluten around her food, it's a lot harder to avoid than people think, especially if you aren't preparing all your own food from scratch.
thank you SO much for making this one, Mudan!! i also have celiac disease and have been despairing about finding good food options in Japan. It made me so happy to see this video and see Mudame's (however short) reaction to the bread you found! loving the daily vlogs & wishing Mudame the best in finding more great gluten free foods!!
The Melonpan clip was quite the jumpscare. I sometimes just forget this man ever existed on the internet but then randomly get reminded of him and all the weird shit he did over the years.
Thanks for this. Hopefully more GF adventures in the year. I was recently diagnosed coeliac and was supposed to be going to Japan in March but I postponed to let myself get used to a GF life
Love the music choice but that high hat on History does the song so dirty as a BGM. Even lowering the EQ would help I feel. Still as a Gluten sensitive person this video was very insightful! Thanks for making it!
If i am not mistaken, you can find more special dietary food at Lawson Natural, which sell lactose free, vegan or vegetarian stuff, but im not sure if they do sell gluten free stuff as well
OMG this is so great! I kinda gave up on idea of ever visiting bcs I fear not having any food options, especially during roadtrips or dining out. Really hope to hear more about it from you guys, cheers :D
Should you ever make it over to Osaka I can recommend OKO Okonomiyaki and OKO Tako. Both are vegan, but also gluten free. One does, as is in the name okonomiyaki, the other does takoyaki and kushikatsu. Both have very friendly owners. Also recommend Shinsekai Paprika Shokudo in Osaka. Again vegan but also gluten free, they have kushikatsu, takoyaki and rice/noodle bowls
Actually, I’ve found 7-11 to have the highest percentage of gluten free onigiri, just not in Tokyo. In Tokyo, the stores are small so they don’t have many options and they sell out fast, compared to larger stores in rural areas which commonly have 10 or more options to choose from.
Thanks for this Mudan, my mother and I will be going to Tokyo in a few months and she also has ciliac disease. If there are any other good spots you know of you should do a follow up to this video!
People say Japan is getting is getting better with options for gluten-free, vegan, halal, and other dietary requirements, but make no mistake, they are still not easily available. For context, they had to take a 30-minute train ride (assuming they start from the temp apartment near Waseda that he showed previously) all the way to Jiyugaoka to find this gluten-free bakery.
oh man, celiac in jp seems like a nightmare, my niece thankfully found out after she got back that she had celiac cuz she was eating so much melon pan, noodles, katsu with panko breading, soy sauce, takoyaki, etc while there
I am travelling to Japan at May and i also have gluten allergic. I did some research about food items I can eat, and everywhere they say some onigiries are gluten free. But you say there is none??? Fuck there goes my whole 2 week survival plan :(
Those diseases suck. I was just released from the hospital last Friday bc of my crohn's disease. And it was already the second time this year that I had to be hospitalized bc of that.
Gluten is really hard to digest regardless of whether you're "celiac", I've met a lot of Japanese people with gastric inflammation and they don't seem to understand low fat, gluten/soy free, low sugar diets.
So are you saying that its like super difficult and there'a only a couple places you have to go halfway across the country to find? I really just want some actually good gluten free ramen and udon, moreso the udon, but all the imported udon Ive seen has wheat in it 😭 I miss it so much. It seems like the only brand Ive found in the US of GF ramen is more just like a Spaghetti noodle. I'll still eat it, because what else do I have. But itd be amazing to get authentic Japanese GF noods 😍
Sad you have Coeliac. 😢. Maybe the next place you should move to is Los Angeles (USA). There's gluten free products everywhere. Expensive, sure. But I'm certain trashtaste is paying you well.
Jõudu ja jaksu Jaapanis! Väga tore on sinu seiklust jälgida. Ise kolisin Eestisse ligi 10 aastat tagasi ehk ma osaliselt tean, kui hull ja põnev see teisele maale kolimine võib olla :-)
Please help me! My girlfriend has celiac as well and we want to go to Japan within the next year and a half. Do you have any lists of places to eat or hacks? We appreciate it!!
Felt rushed and not great audio mixing. Will you do a "walking the streets no talking" style video eventually, seems like that'd be an editor in JP field dream.
Genuine question, how did she know she had celiac disease? As a hypochondriac I would like to find out earlier than later but most people say you dont see chronic symptoms until like 6-8 years of having it which sucks
hello there, here's my experience: as a kid I was a bit chubby but since 7th or 8th I started to get skinny and stayed skinny until my second university year my appetite was never big, but during my second year of university my stomach started to feel really bad, and some day I found myself not being able to eat at all. Everytime I was trying to eat something, I felt a gag reflex and felt like throwing up I visited 3 doctor until one of them recommended me to check myself for coeliac disease/gluten intolerance and yeah, I found out I have celiac disease after changing my diet I started to feel better and look healthier as I putting some weight on me if you fell like you are experimenting coeliac disease symptoms, go see a doctor, dont't waste time
it really does depend person to person, as people can have more severe cases than others and yet have fewer symptoms (and vice versa!) the biggest ones to look out for are the ones that were on the graphic Mudan had in the video- but those symptoms would be chronic, everyday things (or nearly.) My biggest tip-off was chronic digestive issues and bloating, but especially the bloating. I really mean I was almost always bloated, every day, in some capacity. It wasn't until later on that I realized I also had nearly all of the other symptoms on the list, all of which "magically" cleared up after being off of gluten for about 5 months. If you're suspicious that you might have gluten issues, it's better to get them checked sooner than later. Mainly because once you take yourself off of gluten, if it does fix things, you'll NEVER want to eat it again. (and also because the longer you wait, the more damage is done to the intestines...) BUT! in order to get tested, you need to be currently eating a gluten-filled diet. So if you really truly think you might be celiac /intolerant/ allergic (altho i know that's tough if you tend towards hypochondria) get tested before you switch off of gluten containing foods. Because if you don't need to be off of gluten - why deprive yourself of delicious and nutritious food? And if you do need to be off of gluten- don't clear your system of the thing you need to GET tested.
@@halcyondaze_I have a lot of acid reflux / stomach acid. Sometimes when I sleep I wake up in the mornings with a sore/dry throat. I notice that what helps is keeping good posture and walking more aids digestion. Im thinking its cause my bad posture is causing lots of pressure in my abdomen since I sit all day for work (like im scrunched up) In terms of stuff like headache, pain in stomach, fatigue, vomiting, lactose intolerant, ulcers, iron deficiency and stuff, I dont get those things… so idk Honestly im just scared of doing an endoscopy :( the pain, being awake and etc.
@@KozaiDesign aw gosh yeah endoscopies are not fun. but it does sound like you may have something different then. it's possible that it could be related to a gluten intolerance, but in my very limited medical opinion, it sounds like it may be something else entirely. i hope you'll be able to figure out the cause alongside a good doctor, and that you'll feel healthier soon!! wishing you the best on your journey!!
Your doc can do a simple blood test for antibodys to check for celiac disease (you need to eat food that contains gluten for the passt few weeks before) If the test turns out positiv you would usually follow up with a gastroscopy to check if the test was correct and see how far you're body is already damged from it. Symptoms can be literally anything and everything, while some even have no symptoms at all for the majority of their life, which is why in the past celiac disease was rarely diagnosed (e.g. my docs always told me the most generic bs over 28 years without even testing for celiac disease until I got hospitalized for it and the generic blood test said there shouldn't be anything wrong with me that someone desided to test me for celeriac disease with another blood test). (sorry I'm to lazy to correct my scuffed English in this answer ;)
Having a separate location to prevent cross contamination is pretty cool
I'm still traumatized from how the last video ended 🤣
It’s okay I’ll pay for therapy
BUT LOOK AT HOW CUTE AND HAPPY MUDAME WAS AT THE END OPF THE VIDEO OMG IM DYING
Having developed celiac recently i regret mot going to japan beforehand. Keep us posted with how she deals with it please!

I was there in Feb, I can't even count the amount of 7-11 salmon onigiri I ate over those 3 weeks 😂

OMG THANK YOU MUDAME! i’ve been looking for this for SO LONG, and there has been NO good answers!
the ending is so wholesome wth
also yooo the thumbnail picture!
Always nice to see mudan upload

That shot of you eating onigiri and saying so amazing XD bruh XD

As a fellow celiac its nice to see some options are around even if quite limited

2:46 why was I expecting that haha
i like the melonpan reference :D
Good video! I also have celiac disease so this was helpful, thanks.

Another awesome daily Mudan video, which naturally means a new daily comment from me!
I love These videos they are so short but SWEET
Now, Mudan putting Nujabes as the background music shows his immense taste 🔥
Love this
thank you so much for this video
Whats the countdown for ? 1st Mudan vid I watched since he moved to Japan -
love the content man keep it up - 😂
you can buy gluten free soba but it is very expensive and considered "high quality/luxurious"
Nihongo Jozu Mudan and bread great in any country love it too much
I did not expect the melon pan crossover.
Omg celiac is so hard in Japan, but at least there's plenty of rice
some studies also show that even if you're fine with gluem, reducing it might have benefits! although i haven't tried cause gluten is da best
Can you share your favorite single line train stations? You know the ones that just have two trains going in one direction.
Those diseases suck. I was just released from the hospital last Friday bc of my crohn's disease. And it was already the second time this year that I had to be hospitalized bc of that.
Getting so much unus annus vibes from the countdown haha
Just realising it now
Here to mark my attendence for the future.
thank you for showing us the sugary bread
Thank you from another celiac who appreciates learning there are at least a tiny bit of gluten free options in Japan. 😊
Good music choice

I read that and thought "why is someone commenting in Finnish" (I don't actually understand Finnish). Took me a while to get it.
Please help me! My girlfriend has celiac as well and we want to go to Japan within the next year and a half. Do you have any lists of places to eat or hacks? We appreciate it!!
what is mudan's relationship with mudam? wife? SO? girlfriend? sister?
noiCE
Hello fellow celiacs, love you all

There are few onigiris safe, some salmon and ume onigiris are safe. Just check in other conbini 😉
1:18 Thank You Mudan
rich brian history type beat
Sour plum onigiri from familymart is gluten free. Had better success there than 7 eleven
Really? The 7-11 salt onigiri was gluten free. I found some chips too.
What about her daily meals? How do you guys manage that?
this video ended really unexpectedly lol
Can you do one for organic / health snacks / food? Please?

Day 3 asking Mudan to try speedrun every temple in tokyo in one day.
Nujabes bgm 🐐🐐🐐
How would that be 10€ in Europe? That thing would not cost 1€ in any self-serve bakery or 2€ at a real bakery
Mudan you need to visit the Balkans, you'll pay roughly $1 per pastry and you'll love every single one of them
Aruarian Dance
Are you Mudan and her name is Mudan too?
