Sitting on the deck in mid Missouri enjoying enjoying some doobies. I heard this band from a friend around 1979. Old hippies never die, we just go up in smoke.
Let me join the crowd and say, "This Band is Underrated!". I have the first 3 albums (still), and loved them, but never found the rest of their music even though they produced many more albums... :S
my buddy and i went camping in his 1967 Dodge Van in wildwood nj and next to us were 2 hippie dudes Carl and Fum. They smoked some weed, and were playing this tune. That was 1978. We never forgot that day. This song brings me right back there.
Anyone who came to my parties (Canadian) in the 70/80's knew who Lake was! I never understood how they didn't get more air play. I agree, that line "came fifth" was always one I'd stop what I was doing and would have to sing along too. They were masters at pop song hooks.
My friend used to play Lake on tape as we drove around in her Chevy in the mid-late 70s. I always loved the lead singer’s voice and this song is great! We all know a little scoobie doobie never caused no one no harm. ♥️♥️
Als die Platte war ich 16. Tolle Platte, tolle Zeit. "Scoobie Doobies" ist neben "Into night", "Betweeen the lines" und "The Final Curtain" meine absolute Lieblingsnummer dieser tollen Band.
Sad irony. James Hopkins Harrison (the lead singer) singing about a 'rock star passed away', and then himself dead of a heroin overdose a decade later. A tremendous voice, lost.
As a DJ for many years, I too first became aware of Lake in the late 70's. As stated on other site, Lake, Tranquility and Gypsy (later to be called James Walsh Gypsy Band) ... 3 bands that never got the true recognition they deserved.
I can't help but think this song isn't about smoking doobies... Especially considering how the singer died, still a great song that certainly has a lot of potential double meanings and interpretations.
Terminal Passage I've always wondered my whole childhood what he was talking about cause it don't sound like weed. sounds like he is talking about pills
always did wonder...the guy in this song is found with a jar of scooby doobies...so it's different from a doobie (joint). What kinda dope are we singing about here?
@Bremer62 Hallo Bremer :-).
On the Run DoLP Sau Geil Solltest du dir mal reintun Gruß Bremer62

Still here in 2022!!! First heard these guys back in 1978... Been on my playlist ever since :)
LAKE - one of the best German bands ever - unfortunately they never got the reputation they deserved

Keep this song going. Loved it when I first heard in the '70s

First heard Lake in '78 and fell in love with their music
+Paul Bourn Can't believe I am just discovering them in 2015! Still amazing though.

They had the pop formula down to an art. Same here, my 80's parties always had at least a half dozen Lake songs played.
My friend used to play Lake on tape as we drove around in her Chevy in the mid-late 70s. I always loved the lead singer’s voice and this song is great! We all know a little scoobie doobie never caused no one no harm. ♥️♥️
Fantastic band...amazing they stayed under the radar, but hey that just kept them special to u,s that knew the band's music.
+ut1004bp Seems like many of the greatest artists have yet to be as recognized as they deserve.
Well said.
Just love this tune! Thanks!

... exactly my thoughts...

This is a classic that is underrated and nearly impossible to find if you weren't a Lake fan.
very nice album welcome to the west!!!!
What a great stoner rock tune.
indeed....hard to understand why these guys weren't bigger
So true.
i use to have this on record in 78. when i was 8. havent heard this in a long tim.e lake was awesome. the lead singer od from herion in 91. sad..
Definitly underrated Band.
James Hopkins-Harrison RIP
Yacht Rock at it's best. I hear Elton John, Little River Band , Toto and Doobie Brothers influence
Dies und The Final Curtain sind die besten Lake Songs.
I could do with some Scoobie Doobies.
Wird`s leider nie wieder geben, sowas...

no double meaning at all.... bout taking pills....
I agree. Their songs were so radio friendly, but never made it to the radio.
meanwhile back in reality.
Haven't heard this in almost 30 years.
always did wonder...the guy in this song is found with a jar of scooby doobies...so it's different from a doobie (joint). What kinda dope are we singing about here?
Love Greg Lake,, can't stop listing to this song ,, it never gets old :)
+Jerald Hudson This is the German Band "Lake". No connection to Greg here ...

Legalize the scoobies! It's from the earth, helps ppl with many different illnesses! .....waiting in MO.....
Are you still waiting in MO? Just curious...
Yes unfortunately...
BEAT GOES ON Label is gonna release the 1st 2nd and paradise island remastered sept 10,2013.........LOOK FOR IT!
27.12.10 rendsburg jens skwirnblies (key brord) lloyd andersen ( singer)

Moin aus Bremen, die Doppellive LP heißt LAKE LIVE ON THE RUN, und ist von 1983,
Scooby doobies were ludes 714 in my day
In Germany they were Mandrax.
So it’s definitely untrue that scoobies never done no harm, unlike doobies where the only harm was to the groceries in the fridge. 😎
Hast wohl Alex bei Deiner Kritik vergessen!
Axel
