Got freaking scared on tenements there. When you got to the last room I was like "Well now, this should be a piece of ca-- WAIT. If something really nasty spawns in that small space, it's gonna suck hard." and well it kinda did. It was great fun seeing you make it out of a tight spot though!
It takes me almost half a hour to complete some of the bigger more complex levels in Doom 2 sometimes and to see you fly though the game in this time... I just... I just respect you so much!

I hear ya, bro. I managed to beat the original 3 chapters of DOOM on NIghtmare by the skin of my teeth, but I could only get to around level 10 on DOOM 2 nightmare. It's like original DOOM but on crack. Probably one of the best videos on UA-cam in my humble opinion and as a rabid DOOM fan. Dude, I wish I could still find people on xbox live DOOM deathmatch. Just doesn't happen anymore.
Freddy Fazbear Gaming That must have been hard for you to win that battle if the BFG failed for you. Just try on a easier setting for you to get more practice. That works for me a lot.
Awesome thing! And about the cheat code talk. In Nightmare, none of them worked, except for IDDT, which is odd. This code, after first entering (in map mode) uncovered all the map without the gray stuff, and on second, additionally showed every single item and monster on map as triangles. That was the only Nightmare code that worked.

pretty nice, it's one thing to see someone blaze through a level and run past all the enemies on nightmare, it's another to watch someone slog through it and linger in it for what seems like all day as the super fast and aggressive mobs keep resurrecting behind you.
I am in awe. I remember playing this a few years back and finding it challenging on normal at time and thinking the "par time" wasn't nearly enough time to beat most level but not only did you shove there par time up there ass you shined it up real nice and turned that sun b!tch sideways. you are a true master as seeing as you played start to finish makes it ever better some just do it by levels so no telling how many tries it took but you did them one after the other. stay thirsty my friend.

When you beat the icon of sin, the head explodes. The explosions as you can see at 1:18:19 are basically a bunch of barrel blasts; so naturally if you get close to it, you'll get blown to bits.
Sweet Fact: When you hear that demon voice at 1:16:25, that voice you hear is actually backwards. What it says is "To win the game, you must kill me, John Romero.", which happens to be the guy behind ID software. :)
The 90's was an excellent time for gaming. It must of felt like a golden age!!! Good memories!! I use to play this all the time when I was a kid! It's a good science fiction FPS game. In fact I think it's better than most of the FPS games make now, darn shame.
I believe I have read a file which came with original .lmp (demo recording file) and the author explained a lot about printing the maps, planning the routes on paper beforehand, etc. - and also made quite a few nightmare demos where he only reached a certain level (releasing the demo if it was a new record) before getting through all of the levels. So yes, lot's of memorization but also a lot of pen&paper planning was involved with this - actually it makes it more awesome if you ask me :)
There are hints to many, if not most, secrets - like in DooM 1 E1M1, the texture is different colored (but same pattern) than rest of the wall for secret door to the tunnel leading to courtyard, or map 01 of DooM 2 where one secret area is hinted by wall texture being just a tad bit offset from the walls around it. On some there might not be hint on the door itself but most of time surroundings may give a slight hint for there being a secret door (like the rocket launcher room in map 01).
You're right, but when you play a game in, hmm, i will call it "run mode" (my english is a little bad) you don't care about secrets or monsters, you just go through the level as fast, as possible. I'm sure there is a possibility to done the game in much shorter time, but when i said "whole" i meant "you've done about everything in this game, that is possible". That's incredible. I've never found the all secrets, even half of them. Hope you undrestood me xD

Also, "if the monster opens its mouth at zero distance from the player, i.e. directly at the player's face, the lost soul spawned will be instantly destroyed." (from wiki), which means that it may look like the lost soul never came out since it died at birth and they leave no bodies behind.

Yup, in fact the legacy dates to shareware episode of DooM 1 where in E1M8 you teleport into pitch black room with monsters and damage floor and no way out - you get through the first episode (slash shareware version) by dying there.
In both levels, it's because a teleporter is marked as secret, and since you teleport when you hit the edge you can't actually stand inside and be credited for the secret.

My older brother installed this game on our home PC when I a kid but said it was too violent for me to play. But it was so good I had to play it, so whenever he went out I got a few sneaky levels in and I would save my file as "empty slot" in the 5th slot! He never copped on :)

Later I noticed the author stating his always played with keyboard. Can't imagine how anyone can do nightmare with kb only. Heck, the original nightmare demo alone without aims like 100% secrets is crazy enough. Btw, that original demo includes secret levels, because it provided advantages and was *quicker* that way. That was cool.

The secret on map 15 that is missed can sometimes be gotten by slowly walking back and forth over the edge of the teleport until it gives it to you. Not sure about map 27 though.
The same with Monster Condo, in Level 15 after triggering the switch at southern area that raises the staircase, you open the corner and enter the teleporter. That linedef makes impossible to reach 100% without using NOCLIP.
@MoPar7055 Monster count is exactly the same as UV. Difference is that they attack now in very short intervals and their projectiles are twice as fast and demons run twice as fast.

What modern fps lack is this eerie vibe and well designed map/maze(color scheme, sound effect also). Pursuing reality in game doesn't get it more exciting. I still prefer Doom2 after all these years
