If you are thinking about upgrading to the Google Nest Mini 2, this video will show you the differences. I have also included a sound test as well. The Nest mini is part of google rebranding on Google home devices.

Nest Mini has three mics. Home Mini has two
Monica McDonald thanks i just noticed that as well, i will pin your comment and I appreciate your help.
Not true 9 months later guys I was wrong it’s true

Hey, so fun fact, the Google Home mini actually does have sensors in the middle. They were just disabled because they were too sensitive, to the point where they would randomly activate the assistant. Google later fixed the problem by deactivating those sensors.
Anyone else here after receiving a free nest min from google?
Got it from UA-cam.
Fi customer
I got mine yesterday from Google Fi
how
Bro I got 3
You can pause the home mini by long pressing one of the volume buttons
The original mini did have a middle sensor but there was an issue that caused them to constantly record users so they just disabled the functionality on all of them...
Heck, I received an Echo Dot for 99cents in Dec and i'm now using my free Google Mini after paying $19 for 3 months of Spotify i got today, so i'm pretty pleased with it, as well, since i live in an rv. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for sharing
The importance of offline LAN control can't be understated if you have all your lights set up. Smart homes will definitely at least some offline voice control devices in the future.
Best explanation about the NEWEST Google Nest Mini.
Appreciated
Me: hey google play some music
Google assistant: *J* *A* *Z* *Z*
A very well presented item , thanks for sharing your perspective, and I will definitely refer to it when I get my new Nest egg mini !
I have the amazon echo dot 3 from last year, I kinda like the nest mini because it can control my LG Sk9y sound bar
Honestly you presented these products great and you are a Very Good Speaker
Thanks Gabriel
Thanks you. Google is sending these out free of charge in England at the moment to folk that are subscribed to UA-cam premium. Just got mine but every room already has a gen 1. Lol. Thanks for the video my American cousin.
Actually the old Google Home Mini did have a touch sensor on the top as it originally had a function where you could tap it to invoke Google Assistant instead of using the keyword, but it would trigger on its own so Google disabled it. There was a whole debacle regarding this before the device even officially hit store shelves (it happened to a few tech journos). It's odd that they didn't bring this feature back in the Nest Mini since the "button" on the top works just fine.
I really enjoyed this video I like how you explained all the details I do have a google home mini that I received as a gift but I would probably try the google nest mini. Thank you for sharing.
There is a button in the middle of the google home mini but the had to disable it made the device listen out for your voice and you didn’t want it to
In the old mini actually has the center sensor but it was disabled by software.
The “old” one did have the center play/pause button but it got deactivated by google for some reason. It worked when I first purchased it but after a couple updates it just stopped... now you have to hold the side volume bottoms to do the same
I got my new nest mini today and I love it😍😍
I’m getting a charcoal google nest home mini for Christmas I have a question Is the google home mini bigger than the nest home mini or are they the same size
Same
I just bought two New Minis since they were about 40% off at Best Buy.
I have a nest doorbell and I think my wife got a nest mini from spotify last year. It would be cool if there was some functionality between the two. If there was I might consider buying another one but I think my series 1 google home is just fine.
This is all I could find on google support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451?hl=en

This bit right here just sold me.
I just received my new nest mini & don't really see much difference from my home mini other than what was pointed out. I got mine as a free gift from youtube but I'd say if you have the google home mini, I don't think it's really necessary to buy and upgrade to the nest mini.
Can I use a battrey bank to plug in the micro USB to make Home mini portable? Thanks for the nice review.
Yes. It's possible. But not possible for nest mini
@@TonyStark-cd9st Thanks!
I have both and tbh no it’s really not needed unless you really need the upgraded speaker quality or the wall mount means a lot. As mentioned speaker quality is noticeable.. I also have the nest Home Hub once again speaker quality is noticeable seeing that we are using them for light switches and alarm clocks and turning on and off TVs I cannot justify purchasing new devices for sound quality when the sound quality is not that bad to begin with. It’s like the 10” home hub. Unless Zoom is offered I really don’t use video conferencing and I prefer a mobile device for that.. I have a laptop and tablets so it’s not needed in that space for me but I do like having a device I can see the time, pictures of my wife and kids, or just not turning on my bedroom TV but just activating the home hub to take care of that task. I also have a Echo just for minor task to keep confusion down and take care of some gaps in compatibility
I’m keeping my home mini It’s got all I want maybe in a few years I will upgrade
I have a Alexa dot, I primarily use it for the smoke detector alert function. I would like to switch to the Google platform, but do not know if it will monitor smoke detectors and breaking glass
They make external devices that will do both as long as it’s compatible with Google home.
This is cool I’m saving up for one
Hi Steve I have one more question when setting up does it matter where I place my nest home mini like does it make a difference If I put it up on a counter or down low like on a bottom shelf or does It not matter where it goes?
Nope
I'll take the Nest.
Since that's what Google is sending me for free. Got to love that.
As well as the fact that I have an Amazon Echo and I don't know why people like those things.
Useless you get a skill, it's hard to get the kind of response I get from my phone's Google assistant.
We might ask the echo what the temperature is.....
I got my new (free from Google) nest mini today and was wondering how it differed so thanks for this.
how did you get for free?
?
I'm about to buy a Google home mini... so should buy it? Or should I buy the Google nest mini?
I would get the nest mini
I like that you would be able to control devices while not on WiFi. That’s pretty much the one thing that would make me get a new unit.
It’s for items like smart lights that’s compatible, without wifi how would it get information, it codependent on the google servers. Who know how that will work, well see in the future.
So what is good mini or nest?
I was having a lot of problems connecting The original home mini to my Xbox series X as a smart speaker. So I can use commands. Kept saying cannot connect the Xbox. So I just bought the nest two hopefully it works! On the original just kept saying can't find Xbox and I had the option on the Xbox for commands on for Google assistant. Like my Google home wasn't recognizing the Xbox on my phone it was weird. Everything was working fine until like a day ago and it doesn't recognize the Xbox anymore or anything
how good is the sound? like can I use it to do exercise and get a good sound? or is it not that loud?
It’s not that loud, get the nest audio ua-cam.com/video/NqZ9hik1XBM/v-deo.html
Just wondering what is max distance you can talk to it?
I’ve been as far as 40ft in another room, I haven’t seen actual specs on this
I really want to get the Google home mini second generation but I already got a Google home mini it's the first generation
The mini is fantastic but I just sold mine for $30 and got the nest on sale for $30 lol so
I didn't know there was a difference between the two of them until I saw this video...I thought they just made a name change. 🤪
Thanks for the upload. 👍🏾
BTW...I have the original Google Home Mini...Got it as a gift for Christmas a few years ago. 😏
the Google home mini has the middle sensor but they disabled it because of security reasons
I upgraded to Nest mini the sound quality is a bit better however the microphone is to sensitive to other background noises so you need to turn down other distractions to avoid repeating yourself. Is it worth upgrading "NO" I should have kept my original !
Too sensitive..
Normal UA-cam will work or need to must have UA-cam premium?
Free UA-cam music works with commercial
Is it me or the home mini sound better than the nest mini?
I just got a nest mini and I love it
i want to chose but i cant
The old one does have a touch sensor in the middle it's just disabled
Thanks, since the feature was disabled I didn't want to confuse new viewers.
You did a fantastic Job on this video. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks
Does this go well on my desk
Best UA-camr ever!!!😎✌🤙👌
Hey steve what do you recommend for me. I have a Google home mini. And what do you recommend for the Google Nest?
Great video, very in depth!
I hate the barrel plug wire. It's a pain to get something longer. If it was USB C it around have been about infinity times better. I need more then the included cable lenght
1:31
like dude...whats wrong with you
It was gonna be either the echo or the mini...l have made my choice the mini seems so much easier to set up ..
Echo is terrible, get one of these in this video 😀👍
Google disabled the tap in the middle to pause function 'cause some of the original minis were recording all the time. You can pause on the older model by holding your finger to the side instead of tapping the side.
Basically not alot difference between the Google mini & Nest mini. Overall I love Google more than Amazon Alexia.
got a nest mini ad, so *ironic*
Can I connect nest mini to laptop and use its mic and speaker to attend meetings on zoom?
Yes you can. Connect it via bluetooth.
So the only differences are in lights and sensors? But what about capabilities?
The offline assistant capabilities in future update. On the nest
I set up a second one in my bathroom but when I ask it to play music or the news, it plays on the first one in the bedroom. Why is it doing that?
Try to talk with a lower volume, the other one may have heard you speak.
@@TechSteve Ha ha, no the door was shut and the bathroom is in a different part of the house plus she said "OK playing on bedroom speaker", and I went 'what the heck!...
Just say play this music in my bathroom .
How to use mobile device? I try it and didnt work. I use tethering. 5:26
Best review ever!!
I just got the notification from youtube for a free nest mini , is it the new 1 or the old 1?
I’m wondering the same thing🤔
New one
I also got a free one
It’s the second generation.
Which baground music
Waste of money im keeping my 1st gen
You can get a Nest Mini for free if you have Spotify Premium.
*This is only available in the UK and Canada.*
@@MrPlaidFace same!
@@leroyglass2621 so not in the US
The sound in person is a pretty decent difference but if you already have a mini it doesn’t need to be upgraded or if you only have one you can but the nest does sound better
Can it plug into a speaker or in other words can it take the place of Google Chromecast audio
Only Bluetooth
Hey I have my 1st gen connected to my home theatre via a cheap 3.5mm bluetooth audio dongle I got off ebay like 5 years ago. You can change the default music speaker in the google home app and I was able to choose the dongle and works great
What part of the south are you from? Awesome content btw.
Great video
This is actually my First time Hearing about Google Nest 😱
Technology is always changing, you're not alone.
Spotify have an offer on until 30th December if you sign up for premium you get one free youtube did it last year and so did spotify
The google home had a top sensor but removed the functionality of it because it kept turning on rondomly
That was only the very early ones. The average Google Home Mini doesn't have that feature. They didn't call it 2nd Generation then to avoid freaking people out, the new model just appeared on shelves.
Yeah, I’m keeping the mini 1
But it’s hilarious that you used an iPhone for this demonstration 😅
I have the Google Home Mini, and I use it with an iPhone SE.
Why is it hilarious 😦
Idk lol
@@ayesha2359 Because it's made more for android
I mainly use iPhone on my videos so i can airdrop my footage to my mac that i edit on, to show you the setup menus, when i use android devices i have upload the footage to a cloud account or plug in a usb cable and it takes to long.
Gugel nest mini sound superb just got them.. Easy to put on wall as it got hole to insert the wall screw.. Just drill a hole in the wall..
Is it loud enough such that the music can be heard from another room or in a closed auditorium?
It can be heard for background music but it’s a small speaker.
good review!!! thanks
What song is this?
If there is a power outage will my alarm still go on
Nope
How many accounts can i put on it?
im getting mine at the end of april
How can I get a nest mini for free? I bought the home mini, but with the fact that it's crashing my router every 5 minutes, if rather not buy one until the issue is sorted out. I'm still hopeful that they can fix this with a software update.
Great video for us who are going to buy intelligent speakers.
I have a question though, will I be able to hear music from iTunes on google nest 2 ??
greetings from Denmark
Hope you stay healthy despite covid19, I will not comment on your new president but .... ;-) I am happy ;-)
Thanks, Google doesn’t support Apple Music
I feel like muting the background music during the sound test would make it easier to hear the difference
I did but i used the same music, I couldn’t hear too much of a difference myself
could you guys say whats better
Just go with the new model
the (sound) difference is far too small to switch to the new model
If you watch some other vids or have one in person it’s quite the difference but if you already have a mini it doesn’t need to be upgraded I only got the nest cause we are moving and I sold my mini for the same price as I could get a brand new nest so lol
All I learned was that the mics, speakers, and calling was different. But I'm pretty sure there's other stuff not covered in the video
Ibraheem Gaied 40% more bass and richer sounds
Nice video. I have a question though can i use this in other country in terms of voltage ? Do i need a dual voltage adapter ? Thanks 🙏
The google home doesn’t work in some countries
I'm running dialogflow in MINI 1 but it said the device is not compatible.
I don’t do any of the developers programming. dialogflow.com/docs/integrations/google-assistant
I hear the nest mini is now incompatible with older nest products
?
Nice compare
We have too many digital assistance wow actually we have a ton of echoes really have four I think were actually more than that it's a ton
I feel like Google nest has way more bass than Google home mini
That's how I feel too.
It does 40% more
What about the mids and highs, are the those louder too? Or is it just more bass in sec gen?
Sadly the power plug is not USB-C not even microUSB anymore.
You're right it is 2020
@@TechSteve Exactly!
And it's not some kind of noname company, it's GOOGLE.
keep the old one
How do I play Chess against my Google Nest Mini ? I have a Chess board, I don't need a screen. I've asked it the question about if it plays games it suggests 3, and more, I say 'Chess' and then whatever game or skill it shows as a UA-cam search on my Chromecast Ultra (without Google TV). Alexa does just about everything better, even the weather and I can play Chess games against my Echo Dot, or Alexa app on my phone no problem. Google has dropped the ball on everything their devices do.
That's cool
You should have purchased the sky color to make it more obvious which one was the new model as SKY is the only new color added... Good information though Steve 👍
Matt Doucette we have black colour but we don’t need money 💰 cuz my mothers dads brother faces
I got my new coral Google nest today so they obviously have other colours
How ironic? What are chances for a guy name Steve work for Tech Steve UA-cam channel?
100% 🤫
what about the sound quality
? Ip did a demo
I think it's called the Home Mini.
Love this tysn
That's the Anwar Jibawi song!!
