    Another detail I wanna add to this comparison is: if you’re using both assistants in Spanish, Siri is complete and absolute garbage, while Google is fast, flawless and understands more complex tasks
    Also, congrats Josh on this comprehensive video with an excellent explanation

    I have both set up, but I have leaned towards the Google Home simply due to ROUTINES. I LOVE Google's Routines. Simple to set up and more intuitive than Apple's Shortcuts and Automations.
    Hopefully this will be made better in the future, ALSO, BRING BACK the Homepod (larger one). I love that thing, and it is essential as a companion device to the smaller pods.
    IMHO.

      Exactly. Don’t understand why people who review the HomePod miss this point. I have a HomePod and a Google Home mini... and I used my HomePod way more just cuz it “just works” with all my other Apple devices and services. Google assistant may be able to answer a lot of questions in great detail compared to Siri, but as an big Apple user, HomePod is way more useful for me!

      Also, cheaper doesn’t always mean better. Everyone has to breakdown their review as if cost is the end all be all factor for making a decision.

    9:20 This is 𝐍𝐎𝐓 really correct... Actually, You can change the settings so that the HomePod is 𝐕𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐁𝐋𝐄 and 𝐔𝐒𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄 to anyone else who is on your WiFi network. It will still not work even if it’s a foreign Apple Device trying to control it. But as long as you share the password for HomePod, and any other device trying to control it 𝐈𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐃 to the 𝐒𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐖𝐈𝐅𝐈 as the HomePod , they 𝐂𝐀𝐍 use the HomePod. The default settings are that the HomePod -mini- is only controlled by the people who share the home initially added there for the usual other HomeKit enabled devices.

    Now that Apple has released the 2nd Gen and the mini probably has updates to the services they offer any chance for an updated video? The mini colors are the best. I wish the new 2nd Gen had similar to like colors. If I had one of these I would use it for music and as a smart speaker. Can't imagine listening to podcasts or placing phone calls with the device

    this is incorrect, you can mute Siri. you just tell the HomePod to stop listening, then it will confirm that is what you want to do, then once you’re ready for it to listen you just manually activate it then tell it to start listening. ( this can also be controlled in the home app under the HomePod settings )

    I used a Google Nest Mini for over a year and have a the Nest Hub. I also have Amazon products and Siri via Homepod and my phone. I live in Australia but am an American. Out of the three systems, the Nest devices seriously don't understand what I'm saying so often that I stopped using them for any voice related purposes. I rarely give commands to the Nest Hub for that reason. Amazon products generally understand my speech but still has a few problems when I flub up the name for what I want it to turn on. Siri? She 'gets' me. Even when it misunderstands what I've said it allows me to make corrections or just responds in a manner that doesn't raise my blood pressure. For music quality, I really like my Amazon Echo.

    • @HL09
      @HL09 Рік тому

      I'm in that exact situation, Ive used the home minis ever since they came out and they always seem to get worse a month after using them. Went from being amazing to can't hear me at all. Used an Alexa, it's better but isn't 100% perfect. Used Siri, not a single time has it not responded. Im going to replace everything with a HomePod just so I can turn my lights off without yelling 3 times

    • @GaelyneGasson
      @GaelyneGasson Рік тому

      @@HL09 Oddly since I wrote that (2yrs agoj), I've found Alexa to be thec one of choice because it works 90% of the time. I have had a lot of issues with Homekit saying my devices are unreachable while they're just fine in all the other apps, including Alexa. For the sake of reliability. I also moved all my Homekit automations to Alexa Routines. In several months, I haven't had any issues.

    like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

    I had 3 Google Nests and I absolutely hate them. They always disconnect, and 3/4 of the time I can't control what's playing from the Google Home app because it doesn't recognize the speakers are playing. The one thing I do is retrieving items from my calendar - now this feature sucks because it only reads items I directly entered in the calendar. If I setup my main Outlook calendar to write in my Google calendar, these entries will not be picked up. So I end up having to type my entries in both the Google and Outlook calendars. Is it the same with Apple? Also, I like to listen to the news in the morning and have sleeping sounds at night. Is this something that is available with the HomePod mini? I would gladly change if they did - I have tablets, laptops, a watch, and my phone with Apple so I'm completely within the system!

    Amazon Alexa is the best for home automation, it has the most skills.
    Also, Google can't add a device to more than 1 room or group; example: kitchen and family room are adjacent to each other and I want the lights in both room to turn
    off if I say all, as well as independently turning off either room.
    Alexa is inexpensive so I bought 8 to equip every room with Amazon Alexa for voice control so that I can just ask 'turn off the lights' and the echo in that room
    knows to turn off those lights and not other lights in the house.
    Google app's fonts are really really really tiny for my old eyes.
    All 8 of my Amazon Echo devices have a clock... very convenient to tell the time or see a timer's countdown.
    or better sound, I have a few of my Amazon Echo dot 3 with clock output the sound via its 3.5mm headphone jack to my Denon HEOS speakers.

    I was thinking of upgrading to the 12 promax especially for this HomePod feature where you can put your phone near it because I have the iPhone X max from like 2017 or 2018 and it doesn’t have a used one chip so I was thinking of upgrading not only for the camera and the speed and the new design and battery life because it’s from 3000 to 4000 with the new phone with a 12 promax I’d be getting better battery life and I can listen to music for longer on my speaker where with the Google home the original you can still muted and everything but you can’t place your phone by it and transfer the music to it and make it easier in the whole Siri thing to turn on or off on the speaker so then it’s not currently always listening for the wake up word is fine because honestly I don’t use hey Siri anyways unless my phone is plugged in but other than that that’s all I use it for and it doesn’t work unless my phone is plugged in anyways so it won’t trigger any of my other devices so I’m OK with that but for the HomePod mini yeah I’ll definitely turn it on but not on my phone because it only works when it’s plugged in I think it now works when it’s not plugged in with the new iOS 15 update I don’t have it so I can’t test it I’m waiting for the public release because I just don’t trust developer betas or public beta but you get what I mean and the Google home is just way more muffled whether it’s the mini speaker or the original Google home all the nest mini is it’s just A Google home mini just renamed also it’s very muffled way more muffled than the original Google home but if you think about it it’s literally just an updated Google home just without the white top part to it it’s literally the only difference and it’s $100 cheaper at $30 instead of $130 with the original Google home but I wanted something with a display and something that was smarter but the HomePod mini doesn’t have a display but at certain times Siri will get something right that Google home won’t like even how old is Todd Carrie and Siri always gets it right and Google assistant still can’t get it right not to mention even if it had a camera it wouldn’t matter it would just show a card at when even tell you the answer it would just show you a card so then you have to tap on it and go to the Internet like on the phone it doesn’t actually tell you the answer but I mean Siri doesn’t do that or Bixby all the time anyways either but Siri and Bixby combined are smarter than Google assistant I’ll tell you that much and Alex is just dumb as a bag of rocks she’s like the ugly Betty at school but in robot form more like a dumb Betty but in terms of these two speakers if google did some thing where they had a screen and actually showed you the answer I’ll make showing you a card that you have to click on to go to the Internet to get the answer then that would be better seamless. I want something like that in the future that are this small but with a screen that actually shows you the answer unlike showing a card like Google assistant and Alexa and Cortana currently do even though Cortana is not available she still shows you a card if you’re using a windows 10 laptop and then you just click on that little card and it brings you to the Internet of that search so technically she doesn’t have knowledge she’s just doing an Internet search she’s not actually finding a real answer she’s just looking it up on the web because obviously the web knows more than assistance do nowadays but yeah in terms of that yes Siri and Bixby are way better than Alexa google assistant and Cortana combined even jovi I think that’s what it’s called Is always worse then Bixby and Siri combined as assistants go Bixby and Siri will always be the smartest out right now Alexa google assistant Cortana and Jovi are all really dumb I tried asking my dad‘s mom she’s in her 70s anyways Alexa she’s in her House because she thought to get it to help her with cooking and what not and just answer any more questions I asked her some thing that I would have asked bixby or Siri and it never got it right any assistant I have ever tried other than Bixby and Siri always get it wrong not to mention Google and Alexa and just in general the Google company and Amazon company are horrible they are soooooo dumb
