I've played this game on the n64. That being said, the death scene at 7:16 was slightly more unsettling than this version. This version of Ethan plummeting to his death is quite hilarious.

You need to carefully complete each of the objectives, and one mistake could ruin the whole operation, and when that happens, the cutscenes that follow let you know how hard you failed. And you must've not played many games, because only a few missions in the game are what I would call "infuriating."
No, this voice acting is not "y i k e s." It gets the message across well enough, adds charm to the game, and is hilarious. If the voice acting is enough to make you glad that you grew up playing the N64 version and not this one, then you're worrying about all the wrong things. Besides the voice acting, the PS1 version added FMV cutscenes, lighting effects, clearer music, and is overall more cinematic (something the voice acting plays a significant part in).

You missed one. If you knock out the head officer and don't use the face maker; you'll fail your mission because the guards will all come into his office and arrest you.

The one I was hoping to see was missing. If you lower yourself in the computer room with the cable past the lasers and hold the button without even trying to stop for lasers Ethans weight will cause the cable to snap and he falls to his death at the bottom with his last words hilariously being "Rats the cable broke". I'd use stronger words than that personally if I was falling to my death haha
My bro was playing the waiter camo mission. Went to the restroom to disguise or whatever U do in there. All the sudden. A huge white light flashed. Game broke. Lol.
I believe they intentionally made this game to be an action comedy. The dialogue is way too funny to be taken seriously at all (not to mention the voice acting) and the sheer amount of inappropriate backflips reminds me more of movies by Leslie Nielsen than the actual Mission Impossible movie.

Also while it's clear that they're tied up, there's no way to know if they've actually been gagged or not, but he's right; in any of these cases it's meant to keep a prisoner from and if they were gagged, it was to stop them from communicating with each other
Did you know there are three more epic fails to show off 1) Shooting the raft while it's coming back to the tunnel during the first mission 2) In the NOC mission Escape level try doing the mission WITHOUT the mask Pheps comments about it. 3) The funniest one of all is the last mission on the mainland level. Put the plastic explosive on the control panel that powers the bridge then shoot at it then get on the boat with explosive results!
I seriously want to try that last one just to see if it's a real scene. also shooting the camera rather than disabling or getting caught by it is one he missed.
There's another one in the Embassy Function where you have to find the Facemaker from Sarah and you can get caught by the guard. He'll have Ethan at gunpoint and holding Sarah by the neck.

THAT is why the N64 version is better? The music on the N64 was compressed to fit on a cartridge, while the PS1, being a CD-based console, was able to play the music in its full quality. The PS1 version has almost all the same music except for the original Embassy Function track, as the PS1 was unable to recreate the N64's piano proximity effect. And less voice acting doesn't necessarily make the N64 version better. Once again, the PS1 took advantage of its CD format by including more recorded dialogue. In addition to being charming, the voice-acting does its job by getting the point across well enough and adding to the cinematic quality of the PS1 version. Even if you don't like the voice-acting, that shouldn't detract from the quality of the overall game.
This game is an absolute classic. It was the first game I rented from Blockbuster back in the day for my N64.
