Great work on this pedal line, Rob. The best looking pedals out there, and an original look that makes you think: "I'm amazed nobody thought of this before!". Always a sign of a good idea.
What a surprise that you made the best presentation of these pedals. Haven't heard them sound this good in any other video. Super cool. One thing remains unchanged though, is that I much prefer The Very Thing. Its crunchy open sound is just amazing.
Bea , (I have said this before ) Thank you for Demo-ing this with a Strat ! . It's difficult to find out how pedals/amps sound , with single coils AND in a Hard rock ,gained up vibe . I really like the boost pedal ! Thanks man .
I'm a drummer and a flutist. I couldn't resist this pedal, even though I cannot play my Telecaster. Musician's Friend had it on sale. I took it, hook line and sinker. I'm totally stoked. I love your video. Thank you!! With Love, Laughing Crow.... ..
Zach from Mythos deserves all the credit on these things. The Very Thing strikes me less as a boost and more as a modded Marshall in a box, which is awesome! When Bea added that touch of amp grit to it, shit got real. I love a pushed Marshall sound like that and I feel like the VT just nails it here.
What I love about Rabea’s vids is that it’s just a nice guy playing nice guitars through nice amps and nice pedals in a nice studio... it’s all just nice!👌
I don't think you have to justify this video, Bea. I'm not a pedal guy (running a Helix) so I don't have a dog in this fight but those two pedals sound really good. Especially "The Very Thing".
I wonder these would sound like if they WERE your amp, and running directly into an dedicated power unit. I don't use a traditional amplifier at all. My own rig is all pedalboard mounted, because that makes travelling so much easier. I have an Effectrode Blackbird preamp pedal acting as the amplifier, and it is running into an Orange Pedalbaby, which is then running directly to the speaker cab. Simple. Compact. Effective. It is about as mobile a rig as you are going to get without going full-on rack-mount. In that same context, I wish I could bring my Pedalbaby to Andertons, and try these pedals as the amplifier.
I just received my Marvelous Engine pedal. I did a quick run down with all 8 guitars sounds amazing very good distortion, sounds really good with the Katana, and the Fender gt 100, Trying it on the marshall code 50 you have to play with the setting on amp a bit more.
I finally got to play The Very Thing yesterday at GC. Because it strikes me more as a Marshall in a box than "just a boost", I put it head to head with a Friedman Dirty Shirley pedal, and for me, the Very Thing was the winner. I could get them to sound similar, but the VT had a little more clarity and harmonic bloom, which is kind of my favorite thing, so yeah. Considering Zach from Mythos was involved in the design, I'm not surprised. Also, hard to tell in this video, but the LED is purple, which rules. Great demo, Bea. You sold me!
"Paused" at 10'15". Please inform the Captain (?), these pedals... hit all three. The Head, the Heart, and the Gut. All at the same time. Whenever I see a "Muse O" with an irrepressible smile? Nailed it. No question. That's all I need to see and hear. Done deal. FYI: Every "Review" has been edited for time. Every "Player" has got so "into" the pedal.... they have lost complete track of time! What does that say? Rock On! Kudos.
Loved the little thing you played that was just the guitar, reminded me of Through the Eyes of Ruby. I love those shapes and I almost always play them when testing a new guitar. But holy crap those pedals look amazing. The spankiness from the boost pedal is great.
There are SO MANY drive pedals available, and more coming on the market every day. It's hard to make up your mind. The weird thing is that for my music, I don't really use much gain at all, despite being drawn to scores of cool high gain drive pedals and fuzz boxes. I seem to buy them, have some fun playing with them, but not actually have any real use for them, and ultimately I wind up selling them. All that being said, The Very Thing just might be... (the very thing.... yes, I know, fuck me!) That I KNOW I can use. Fantastic! In front of a Vox AC15? I hope so. Thanks Bea, great demo!
Well done with exploring the wide variety of sounds and combinations between single coil and humbuckers on these pedals. I started out thinking that the Engine would be my purchase, but I honestly think I may go with the Very Thing pedal after this demo.
I grew up playing guitar and stop playing for some reason in my early '20s just wanted to say that you're playing is super inspirational I hear things every time I hear you play that never come to mind if I was playing a guitar And that's awesome. You're playing is literally on another level ,.. if you ever decide to give guitar lessons,. I'm in!!!!
Amazing review and playing as always. I would really like to see you review the Empress Heavy. It’s an amazing pedal with TONS of tones from blues, punk, rock through any type of metal. Would love to see what you could do with it. Cheers!
Great sounding pedals. Love that near-metal threshold you can achieve with these. I saw Andertone's Fender Bassbreaker video which they used the OD/Boost pedal and it sounded fantastic paired with that amp's drive channel. Definitely makes me want to get a Bassbreaker and one of these pedals to pair with it. Now I just need to learn Eruption to showcase that epic hard rock tone with this gear...
At 67 years old I shouldn't be interested in this crap! Crap! Crap! Oh Crap... you reeled me in... please stop! I can't afford all these things on my retirement.....
@acpinion1 - I'm in a similar situation. I just skip a few meals when I can, and eventually save up enough money to buy something. Not owning a car also helps on my meager income. But, gentrification is lurking just around the corner.
Phil Spill , I was born in the greatest age known to rock and roll, and still have the bug! Even though I prefer Jazz now I keep the fire burning for Rock.
Wouldn't you want overdrive before distortion? Sort of like a tube screamer hitting the front of the amp. With distortion first wouldn't it act like the OD/boost is in the effects loop?
@@mattwhornby Thank you man! Just ordered a Marvellous Engine from MF, can't wait for it to get here. It is going to sound glorious through my '73 MusicMaster.
Marvelous Engine is cool but........... The Very Thing is AWESOME. With hums, that pedal just sings. I'm gonna have to start my own UA-cam channel and start demoing gear so I can afford all this shit! :P
Woke up this morning to a text from uni @ 11:30. The text said that Rabea was holding a masterclass @ 12, and it would’ve been sick if I could’ve gone! Just wish I had more notice and I’d have been there no doubt. Any chance that you’ll be doing more masterclasses at ACM?
Not my cup of tea but I’m a blues man. Although These pedals do exactly what they claim to do. Thick, definition, nice high solo action, sqealies and plenty of chug. Perfect for the modern stuff you guys play. With some tweaking I would imagine that they would work for other styles too. Bias aside Bea did an honest review! The pedals did everything as advertised, only snake oil being sold is in the name. Thumbs up! Tough balancing act done perfectly.
I don't know if you've touched on it before, but do you ever use a trem bar? Just realised I don't think I've ever seen you use one. Or if you do, it's not that often. Cause, same. Haven't had a trem bar in my strat for years
Man I am not a fan of drive/dist pedals, but dang.... Rebea makes them sound so good!!!!! Love the vids and the helpful tips man. Cheers from Bulgaria and rock on ;)
The, "Marvelous" sounds really good...except when all the hiss/noise comes in! :( Urgh! Is it really a noisy of a pedal?? How would it sound with 7- or 8-string?
I bought both of these when they were first announced and I love them but I usually use them one at a time. I have them on my board with guitar -> very thing -> marvelous engine -> amp. I thought Rob was suggesting boosting before the marvelous engine but this video is boosting after the marvelous engine. So which order is really suggested?
very thing>>marvelous engine>>amp: if you want more overall gain from the marvelous engine by hitting it with more signal and driving it harder with the very thing, marvelous engine>>very thing>>amp: if you want a similar amount of overall gain but with a volume boost from the very thing
Love you bro, awesome playing as usual man! :-)
Great work on this pedal line, Rob. The best looking pedals out there, and an original look that makes you think: "I'm amazed nobody thought of this before!". Always a sign of a good idea.
You are building a massive, quality brand. Much needed too. (e.g. Gibson's leadership)
S_Hodges71 Yup - some Guitar Center stores or online and Musicians Friend :)
It's about time you stack those two in the same enclosure with an order switcher ;)
I love you Rob...can you send me a guitar please ?
What a surprise that you made the best presentation of these pedals. Haven't heard them sound this good in any other video. Super cool.
One thing remains unchanged though, is that I much prefer The Very Thing. Its crunchy open sound is just amazing.
It maintains string to string definition very nicely. I'll admit I'm tempted, and I haven't bought a pedal in many years...
Bea , (I have said this before ) Thank you for Demo-ing this with a Strat ! . It's difficult to find out how pedals/amps sound , with single coils AND in a Hard rock ,gained up vibe . I really like the boost pedal ! Thanks man .

Very nice IMHO! I also love the concept and the way the name came about.
I swear Rabea can make anything sound off the charts amazing
What I love about Rabea’s vids is that it’s just a nice guy playing nice guitars through nice amps and nice pedals in a nice studio... it’s all just nice!👌

Rabea - Says he rarely plays lead
Also Rabea - Rips some sick ass solos whilst JUST noodling on guitar and gear reviews
Just googled these pedals and low and behold you make an excellent video on them. They are some powerful pedals! Nice one Rob!
The very thing over crunchy amp, woooow, what a tone
I wonder these would sound like if they WERE your amp, and running directly into an dedicated power unit. I don't use a traditional amplifier at all. You turned on the Very Thing and right from the start i was Wowed what amazing sound

This devices do seem to be distinct from most of the OD, Distortion devices. Remarkable texture, body and sustain. Wow!!
THE best guitar player in the uk by far .. total legend and you seem like a very humble , decent lad .. just love your videos ..thanks a lot
Guthrie Govan wants to know your location....
Oh. My. Goodness!! They sound freaking immense!! I especially love the tone from The Very Thing. I think I may have to buy one!
This needs to be a dual pedal called The Cure All or the Lineament! And you are one of my Guitar Heroes for sure!!! Thank you for being you!
Real nice, Rob has the greatest ear for tone and playing was just awesome.

Phenomenal job Rabea and John
I've realised I barely watch Rabea for the product demos. It's just to hear him play these days. Fantastic stuff
Awesome Demo. Bought Both Pedals. Had to have them!!!
Well done with exploring the wide variety of sounds and combinations between single coil and humbuckers on these pedals. I started out thinking that the Engine would be my purchase, but I honestly think I may go with the Very Thing pedal after this demo.
i think i'll get one of those very thing pedals .
sounds real good .
These sounds awesome! Great demo mate!
After couple reviews, including this one, I just ordered this pair of pedals and impatiently waiting for delivery now :)
does it cure line 6 spider IV?
groundzero857 try a compressor amp it will help out a tone with that amp... the sp compressor sounds great on that amp
mk II firmware cures that
A drop from the top of pentagon does though :-/
@@lordghast1845 A man of quality.
I’m watching this in school .... I don’t even care ..... if bea has a vid I watch it !!!!!!!!!!!

ABOUT TIME BRO!!!!!
Sick video as always, love your reviews!!
The "marvellous engine" is very vai/satriani... Ish. You guys made some awesome pedals.
The Very Thing is marvelous. Kudos from TEXAS.
Amazing review and playing as always. I would really like to see you review the Empress Heavy. It’s an amazing pedal with TONS of tones from blues, punk, rock through any type of metal. Would love to see what you could do with it. Cheers!
I´m sold! amazing sounding pedals. 50% it´s your playing, is amazing!
Liked the look and tones of these things from the get go. Now you proper convinced me, mate. Guess I'll be asking Santa for Snake Oil this year.
The perfect touch on these pedals would have been a cage over the light bulb. The cage would be the same color as the pedal case.
No - selling snake oil is all about maximising profit!! You need to drink more snake oil, clearly ... !!
Bea: Demos a piece of gear
My Brain: BUY IT!!!!
what's worse is if you do get it you realise half of what you were admiring was bea's playing haha
Bea : takes a shit Cheddar : Eats it
These really are awesome pedals.
7:10 Rabea: turns tone up
me: oh look a plexi
Great sounding pedals. Love that near-metal threshold you can achieve with these. Rabea Massaad,
Every piece of gear you play, instantly sounds amazing.
You got the TONE!
Commenting before listening..... gorrrgeous!
Wow Bea...so much of Nuno Bettencourt influence in your playing and it's your style now and we all love it.
That first one sounds awesome!
So what's the alcohol content of these here snake oil pedals?!
At 67 years old I shouldn't be interested in this crap! Crap! Crap! Oh Crap... you reeled me in... please stop! I can't afford all these things on my retirement.....

Love Those Pedals 👍👍🎶🎶🎸
Nice pedals! Both very musical
Wouldn't you want overdrive before distortion? Sort of like a tube screamer hitting the front of the amp. With distortion first wouldn't it act like the OD/boost is in the effects loop?
Fair demo, respect!
Honestly, I dont come here for the products. I just come to watch you play. YOU SLAY! YOU INSPIRE!
IM SO EARLY Love the vids and the playing you're sick Bea
Now those pedals sound goooooooood! I'm normally not one for pedals because they always sound muddy to me, but these are super clean!
I already considered getting the very thing...well, I just ordered one thanks to you :D
Love you Rabea!
Does it chug? Hell yeah :D
Rabea, you should ask "White Sea Studio" to do a review of these pedals.
Crunchy. Strats are not my favorite distortion platform but that sounds good. Throw an insult at you guys and you'll run with it, ha.
Any bass cure-all's on the way?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the way these pedals look!!!!! I have to have one. Can we get them in the US?
Livingthat Twelvelife Guitar Center online and in some stores, also Musicians Friend!

Bang up job, 'Bea.

They should come with an "altoid" tin of Snake Oil virility tabs!
Rabea's fingers are the snake oil.... Such finesse while playing that strat.
Not my cup of tea but I’m a blues man. Although These pedals do exactly what they claim to do. Thick, definition, nice high solo action, sqealies and plenty of chug. I challenge you to send them to me, I will prove they can not cure all bad tone. Great playing as always.
I'd Like to hear "Very Thing" up against the classics TS9 - TS8 Any chance of that?
rabea is a right saucy player.
Awesome playing!..pretty pedals, but Joyo will stomp a mud hole in these, on tone and probably price!
How about the very thing in front of a kraken pre-amp pedal?
Same. I've got the V4, and I'm not convinced The Very Thing could add that much. Would like to have seen either way.
I don't think you did them justice, you smashed them out of the park!
The Marvelous Engine doesn't seem to have a ton of headroom on the input. That, or The Very Thing is a very high output OD
They do indeed sound good. damn juicy
Wonderful.
I don't know if you've touched on it before, but do you ever use a trem bar?
Just realised I don't think I've ever seen you use one. Or if you do, it's not that often.
Cause, same. Haven't had a trem bar in my strat for years
Killer Tone and Killer playing! 🙌
Wait. Why did you swap the pedals around? I never noticed before, but you are boosting into the very thing using the marvelous engine. Why?
At 16:48 the Very Thing looks skeptical while the Marvelous Engine is just whistling away. 😂
Man I am not a fan of drive/dist pedals, but dang.... Rebea makes them sound so good!!!!! Love the vids and the helpful tips man. Cheers from Bulgaria and rock on ;)
what song was being played at 8 mins?? feel like i know it
I'd love to hear "the very thing" played on a Brian may guitar through the super kraken. It's sounds very Brian may...ish.
The Very Thing just went on my list..
It kinda starts to get a little bit fuzzy when you use them with each other. Lil too much for me
Yeah nice pedals, but the take away for me was that I might need some Bare Knuckle pick ups in my life.
Awesome man 👌
I remember seeing that snake oil comment, it made me laugh too.
I don't know about the pedals, by that is some mighty fine playing!
The, "Marvelous" sounds really good...except when all the hiss/noise comes in! :( Urgh! Is it really a noisy of a pedal?? How would it sound with 7- or 8-string?

Try both, the only correct way is the combo that sounds best to you
How was the chain going? What amp?
(Still) sounds amazing!! :D
You got a new place wtf give us another cribs tour
Just curious... Are the pickups in your strat still original? Or have you upgraded? Sounds great nonetheless.
They’re the stock CS pickups whatever they are, I haven’t looked actually
Would love a go on one🤘
