A lot of good tips in this one. Narrowing down influences is a crucial point that goes unaddressed, especially in the educational realm, where part of a course curriculum is often aiming a student to "appreciate" many painting periods and styles. When I began as a student, I was drawn to Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Van Gogh, and H.R. Giger (!) .... you can imagine the creative confusion THAT set of influences had on me! It took me years to untangle it. Of course, it never helped that I was at a state run university that always tried to make me feel stupid for wanting to paint like Rembrandt or Odd Nerdrum. The mentoring that is more widely available today is a much better way to learn... and, to the point of this video, save time!

True!!! Completely agree. The modernist philosophy is so deeply routed these days 🤦‍♂️ but at least it’s possible to learn online

David ALeffel is an amazing painter I’d say he is my 1st choice. I like the work of Odd Nerdrum , I like paint coach and Scott Waddell .
Painters I admire are Rembrandt, Turner , constable and sir Peter lely.
