  • 2008 Yamaha FZ1 having issues where the bike will stutter and feel like a small misfire when under 4000 RPM, this was resolved by testing and changing ignition coils.
    Hope this helps.

    Thank you. Also make sure battery terminals are tight. Mine seemed tight but were not and when I got the odd dead cut and check engine light came on. Been fine ever since I tightened them. Great bike, I have had my 2009 for about a year and am very happy with my great value for money and comfortable FZ1

    Having exactly the same issue with my r1, lumpy idle, stutters at low rpm, as soon as its over 4000 its fine, I had thought a bad plug or coil would of been worse at high revs so I'm glad to see this video and im hoping the same reasonably cheap easy fix will sort mine out too, so thanks for posting it

    Hi, i just got my 2007 FZ1 and it has the same problem as some of yours. When I start it the idel is not constant it jumps from 900-1100rpm and when I start driving with an rpm below 4000 it seems to have trouble taking turns and the acceleration is bumpy as if there were a fuel or ignition problem, but when I pass the 5000rpm it drives very well without any problem (the battery is in good condition I always check it). Hi i'm having something weird happening to my 2008 fz1. Mine is stuttering like yours under 4000rpm and the idle is rough.
    As long as its cold its fine but when my oil temp starts rising to about 60c the idle starts dipping to 800rpm and jumps straight up back too 1100rpm and it dips about once every 10 seconds. If you leave it running it gets worse and within 5mins it stays at 800rmp and jumps very briefly to 1100 rpm and straight back down. I checked the coil and they looked fine and where in spec and after about 10 days the issue was gone.
    Now after about a month the problem is back. I started the bike and let her warm up and she started having a rough idle again so i let it cool down, removed the coils checked them and they looked ok as where in spec. I put them back and the problem is gone again for now.

    So I just bought a 2009 FZ1 and it is having this exact same problem. Below 4,500 RPMs it spits and sputters and runs a little rough but then after 4500 RPMs I'll start to roll the throttle on really slowly and all of a suddenly fan it kicks in and it starts to run like a two-stroke and pulls hard. Since I just bought this bike and it has a power commander 5 on it and I noticed it has this Ivan's fuel cut off remover that also has race only on it I thought maybe those two things were butting heads or possibly it was a tuning issue. If anyone has any other suggestions please please let me know I was planning on taking it tomorrow to the bike shop but I'm on my way home now in the first thing I'm going to do is pull down the radiator and start pulling all those coil packs out of there. I thought that the bike or at least I thought I noticed that it had a check engine light and that because it's fuel injected and has an O2 sensor etc etc that if a coil pack was bad or not running properly it would throw a check engine light which I have not seen. Anyways thank you very much for the video I'll be checking these when I get home I'm sure it's probably fouled a spark plug or two out which is probably not helped but if anybody else has any ideas of else what it might be to check please please let me know I would super appreciate it

Hope one of these fixed your issue man. Good luck.

    Hey dude, I know that this post is quite old but I've had a similar problem since I bought my bike, so it's worth asking.
    My bike has a pretty alright idle, but I can't keep the throttle under 4k rpm or so or the cylinders keep misfiring and going nuts. I can still ride it fine, but it is still annoying not being able to ride smoothly at low rpm. Do this sounds similar to your issue?
    Also it's worth mentioning that the previous owner changed the 2 carb setup for a single carb, which I spend a lot of hours working on and testing stuff out, so I guess that's not the problem (buying all the parts I need to change it back to dual carb would run me about 30% of the bikes value, so that's out of question)

    • @Quickshift820
      @Quickshift820  3 роки тому

      This does sound similar to what I had. (I had the Gen 2 fuel injection) but if your ignition coils are the issue then you could be expecting the exact same problem as me. I would recommend testing the ignition coils. It's not a major task to get them out. Give them a visual inspection and if you have access to a multimeter check there resistance. (There are lots of videos about how to check ignition coils resistance)
      Hope this helps.

      @@Quickshift820 It has been 9 months but recently I got around getting new coils.
      I started by checking the spark plug wires and they were completely shot. Swapped them out and it became a whole new bike. The coils were a little out of spec on the multimeter but I didn't give much thought. Just recently I came across some OEM coils at a nice price and decided to grab them.
      I really cannot put in words how much the bike improved because my bad english won't let me. @1:53 you can see my coil was damaged, you may not be able to see any visible damage but you can take a multimeter and check the resistance of each coil.
