Those who say tricking is impractical or whatever..please understand that tricking isn't meant to be practical, hell a lot of things are impractical but it doesn't make them purposeless. Tricking is an art, and art isn't meant to be practical, it is meant to show creativity, self expression, and define. Some things shouldn't be judged based solely on practicality.

Also, for the people saying that tricking is impractical for fighting, most trickers (including him) have martial arts backgrounds. Additionally, the amount of strength it requires to pull of these moves can make one a strong fighter.

Tricking is different from the competition and military type of Taekwondo. This is the artistic side of Taekwondo. The competition type is where you get direct hits. And the military Taekwondo is where Taekwondo’s potential is used to incapacitate and kill enemies. This style is used by soldiers and special forces with movement specifically designed to kill and damage the opponent’s body. If this guy can do tricks like these with the art form, I believe he is a capable taekwondo practitioner and can easily knock someone out in a fight using conventional taekwondo.
As a martial artist myself, I can tell you, if you really enjoy these kicks and get good at them, you will be a deadly fighter. It makes your base moves incredible and I have personally scored a point doing a tornado kick on someone in one of my tournaments. It's hard but they can be used.

I don't ever hear anyone asking if gymnastics, skateboarding, ballet or whatever is practical. You push the limits of human ability and people will admire it enough to sponser competitions. Like any sports in general. People really take for granted what's already acceptable social norms but don't realize that if we go back in time far enough, it wasn't always the case. Guys...get this. Obviously this is not a practical form of fighting. (Well I mean some moves can really hurt you if they know how to utilize it properly.) But tricking is more so performance based. An art or self-expression, really. Kinda like dancing. A hell of a cardio too. And just because this isn't practical, doesn't mean it's not a martial art. There are performance based martial arts and practical based martial arts. Tricking is one of the performance based martial art. Plus most of the tricking moves derived from Taekwondo and other forms of martial arts. Soo...saying its' not a martial arts is invalid since it IS based on martial arts.
