Note: When we were discussing dissolved oxygen levels, the bar graph is mistakenly labelled as pH levels. The label should instead be Dissolved Oxygen (ppm). Sorry about that!
I'm planning on studying this in college next year, so It's cool to see the basic concepts of environmental engineering!
You should! Environmental engineering is challenging but fun. I hope you'll achieve your dream.
Nice good luck
Start learning ArcGIS.

Congratulations!
All the environmental engineers give me a hell yeah!!!! :D
I'm an environmental engineering major in my second year of university!
Hell yeah
Hell yeaaah!
@@AidanKedzierski hows it going ? I'm planning on majoring in it
@@ijayawardena3692 It's going well! I'm really enjoying my classes and I'm trying to get into a research lab this semester.
*Just remember: The people that say, ‘your dreams are impossible’ have already quit on theirs.*
It sucks to get old enough to realize that the people who tried to "kill your dreams" cared more about you than the people who told you to follow your dreams so they would have company in the gutter.
John 3:16. God bless!
im still in high school and interested in env. eng... but sounds like a lot of chemistry is involved, i mean i dont hate chemistry buuuuut
Environmental Engineering is the younger brother of Civil Engineering, who today has grown up.
Please correct the label on what should be "oxygen ppm". Just an editorial comment will do without the need to re-upload the video. The fact that it is currently labeled as 'pH Levels' will confuse many future environmental engineers!
I'm shuddering at the thought, that an engineering student wouldn't spot that as a mistake
YIKES. Just posted a pinned comment about it. Thanks for pointing it out!
You can work and research Environmental Engineering following the career of Chemical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
As an environmental engineer I can't blame the people behind the project, we looked at this example at school, modern projects are so complicated that many professionals need to be involved, especially in government related projects.
Let's learn from this and never repeat such terrible project.
Hi Cesar! I'm looking for some advise regarding Environmental Engineering mater's degrees specially in the UK, is there any recommendation you would like to share? Any tip is welcome!
4:28 I’ve never heard Estrogen pronounced like that before - just threw me off guard a bit lol
yeastrogen.
Makes sense due to the "e" at the beginning but, yeah, another new pronunciation! cool!
Thanks for the information nicely explained. Can I suggest you make videos specifically on water systems obtaining clean water. Maybe mentioning human waste and treatment high nitrate concentrations/ algal blooms . The estrogen changing fish gender was interesting. A specific video on air pollution causes and obtaining clean air . A specific one on waste management / clean land. This was a nice overview and the initial example of the Flint water system were interesting. People learning from mistakes.
Ph levels at 3:00 when talking about dissolved oxygen levels?
Seconded. I was confused at first, then when she actually started talking about pH I figured it was miss-labeled (should be O2 level).
Yeah I got a bit confused, maybe a mislabeling from the part per million (pm) she was talking about or just use DO instead
Same here. I'm betting it gets taken down and corrected.
Probably got some wires crossed when making the art assets.
No they used chemicals to treat the water. After treatment they needed to restore the PH back to a neutral state, they did not. They also did not add a chemical that protects the older iron and lead pipes. Rather disappointed they got this so wrong. Since a sister channel with the Green brothers got it right just a few weeks ago.
Thank you for making this video. I have learned alot regarding basic engineering 😊😊
That shelf hurts my brain...
I teach mass and energy balance in environmental engineer as a lockdown project I sent my students to study the Flynt case and make a simulation. My eyes are watery finding this video.
Can we see more videos like these? Perhaps on wastewater and water treatment?
love environmental engineering!!! also agricultural engineering is awesome as well!!
I’m thinking about going into this!
My favorite words in high school chemistry was coagulation and flocculation
The graphic around 2:43 is wrong. The voice over is describing ppm dissolved O2 but the graphic is labeled pH levels.
I hope you include some info on project management and business management and law issues, because most engineering happens in businesses.
Nice Spaceballs reference!
TS theProducer - 00:59
Make one for aerospace/aeronautical engineering please
can i be an environmental engineer if i bad at physics? ,but i love chem and bio.
Could've been 2 episodes. Bit cramped now. Still love crash course.
Got me with the Perriair reference.
This is what I’ve waited 😂
Thermal and radioactive pollution should be considered as well. Cooling Towers and ponds affect the temperature and chemistry of many natural waters with their discharge. Radioactive particles both particulate and gaseous must be monitored as well allowed to decay sufficiently (standpipes as an example for gases) so as not to endanger health or the environment.
Thanks curiosity stream
I loved!
Wouldn't the air ionizing filter produce ozone, which is harmful on its own?
Can you do a video about Mining engineering?
The estrogen comment is interesting but needs more explanation. I think this it is partly due to the contraceptive pill and connected to our waste water sewage systems, but it could also be related to animal production.
I thought the problem with Flint started because the pipes weren’t properly coated.
Do petroleum engineering please.
can we please get a calculus crash course? please???
Will you do software engineering?
Why not just phosphate the pipes ? This will nix the lead ingression and pacify the corrosion.
There's a cave fish that lives in pH 0.
just use a silk touch shovel
That Michael Moore at 1:08 - 1:17?
Could we have an anthropology video!!!!!!
@ 2:30 showing a PH meter when you're talking about dissolved O2 levels? Umm... my whatthefuckometer is detecting a mistake!
I thought this was about preventing the mineral.
Wow, great idea to do an introduction to environmental engineering, but the video attempts to cover WAY too many topics and ends up making hash of most of them. (As others have noted, there are some errors.) It would be better to cover just a few topics in more detail as examples of the discipline of environmental engineering. I do not want to be too critical, as I am a big fan of the Crash Course series.
And 4:12 wth do hormone levels have to do with salinity??
5:58 face masks are for filtering droplets of mucous / spit / water, not for free-floating viruses or even individual bacteria -- seriously, most Crash Course episodes are a lot better checked than this -- I'm seriously bummed
*< Wonders if Patreon contributions should be stopped in protest of too much blatantly inaccurate animation lately, or if Patreon contributions should be increased so Crash Course can pay Thought Cafe to hire more animators and loosen deadlines. >*
*Seriously, guys. Visuals are important, and incorrect visuals can have a counterproductive effect on learning. While that misplaced pH meter was so blatantly wrong that it shouldn't have confused that many people, there have been many moments in this series where I've been drawn to wonder if the animators were just left to imagine what they were supposed to draw based on the script and a storyboard or whatever.*
*Just as I am a bit shaky on the correct words to express where I assume the animation process is breaking down, artists generally have only a superficial idea of how the physical world works. They need to be given explicit sketches or other models of what they're supposed to portray, or misleading impossibilities will creep into their portrayals. This is (arguably) acceptable in media intended purely for entertainment, but... in a series devoted to portraying how things work? Yikes.*
*Perhaps this also ties into my complaint that bundling "engineering" into one series is a bit over-generalized, akin to having a single "Crash Course Arts and Music" series instead of the plethora of art-related series that already exist. If the expert reviewing the production is, say, a mechanical engineer, they'll do a good job of weeding out errors in the script and animation with respect to their own discipline, but, honestly, they're not much more likely to catch errors about other disciplines of engineering than if they were reviewing the final cut of Crash Course Theatre. And perhaps if I shared a discipline with the reviewer, I wouldn't complain so much because those errors would also sail over my own head. :D*
"Electrostatic"..."Magnet"
*twitch*
2:00 😂
I didn't pay 100% as I was doing environmental engineer stuff on the other display, but: at 2:51, why is the scale "PH"? would't DO (dissolved oxygen) fit better?
I miss Hank Green hosting. Does anyone know why he's no longer hosting?
What about the Fraging??? You didn't even talk about the towns well water! Way to not bring up oil Koch Brothers.
Wait... are you saying that there are chemicals in the water that CAN turn the frogs gay???
🐸
Don't monopolize water provision by making it a public utility.
💛💛💛
Great video. Your so cute. Fascinating ideas about engineering.
I want to be an environmental engineer

Anyone else feel the editing is extremely aggressive? The jump cuts barely give any time between sentences.
And speaking of jump cuts, I think it would be a lot better if they didn’t cut every single sentence.
Electro yeah it does seem a bit aggressive
So what do you want to remove so they can still fit in 10 minutes?
@@shadebug Why fit it in 10 minutes? Maybe do it in two parts.
@@DenkyManner Maybe they don't think they have enough material for two episodes. Maybe they have a specific contract for a set amount of episodes.
Yeah, there's often less of a gap between sentences than there is between words.

Flint joins Benghazi in "places with real living people that have become shorthand for a disaster"
GREAT. SET THE MARKETS FREE.
gonna marry this girl
Do it wrong and you'll make Flint look like Poland Spring. Letting humans play god never ends well.

Why there is no translation?

There are lots of different specialties of engineers as there are of lawyers. They are all in the business of making business for themselves. Magicians making money.
