Returning after your "Zombi" review and I'm super excited to continue watching more in the future of some games I've always loved, known or been interested in. Keep it up, mate!
I definitely agree on the design of the characters. The down syndrome ghouls and super mutants in fallout 4 seemed like such a missed opportunity to me. With the huge improvement of graphics they could’ve make some really cool and gruesome ghouls and mutants and the apocalypse feeling was really missing from it. Everything seemed designed so much more cartoony and bright and just not meant to be taken as seriously and it really was a missed opportunity.
one thing i think fo76 does better than every other fallout is it’s environmental story telling, they had to go all out in this part for the fact there weren’t NPCs to tell a story but the environment
Fallout 3 will always have a special place in my memories, I understand why people like NV more but, getting into Megaton, Exploring the story and mechanics of this game for the first time will be something I'll never forget. You forgot to comment on the metro stations, that place scared me a lot lol, I don't think there's anything like that in NV. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work!
Came from the Zombi Vid. Definitely throwing a like, and a sub at this, and hopefully other videos. Love turning on videos that review a game, or a movie or something of the sort, while I do something else, laundry, playing a game, or just sitting around. Like a audiobook.
Excellent video!, just thought i might add a small comment regarding to the bottlecaps and economy section In new vegas the reason why the mojave mostly uses bottlecaps is because before the events of the game the NCR was still waging a vicious war with the Brotherhood of Steel, during which BOS commandos exploded the NCR's gold reserves and essentially forced the republic to switch to a fiat currency, in turn making the NCR dollar loose over half it's worth, specially in a frontier territory as the mojave that never really abandoned the old tradition of bottlecaps that started all the way back in the hub and its water merchants.
I enjoy the video but the point of currency doesnt make a whole lot of sense. New Vegas explains multiple times how NCR money is pretty much worthless due to its unstable state so the people just keep using bottle caps It was an explaination needed to make the caps in 3 more logical retroactively because just going back to caps for no reason after 70 years doesnt make any sense whatsoever I must admit the biggest strenght of F3 is that sometimes illogical stupid things are more fun like how the world is built, it doesnt make sense but its still fun in many ways
My point was less so that they adopt NCR money and more so that in New Vegas printing money is very much a thing and even coin manufacturing so if not the NCRs paper money then some other kind of more convenient currency would take it's place. I do agree though that bottlecaps are a stretch even in Fallout 3, but i kind of just head cannon that the pre-war world just drank copius amounts of glass bottled drinks. You are right tho in that it's all in good fun and bottlecaps are an iconic part of the series so I'm not saying to get rid of them for the sake of lore, i just think Fallout 3 was able to carry it off a bit more believably, but i still love New Vegas so it's a minor thing really.
I'd have to argue that the caps system in New Vegas makes sense. Fallout 2 was the one and only game during the peak of the NCR's efficiency and economy. After Fallout 2, the NCR and BOS war seriously decimated NCR currency. NCR money was on a gold standard until after the war. Then it became a hyperinflated fiat. The massive inflation led to a value of 0.4 caps to 1 NCR dollar, or 2 caps per 5 dollars. As for Legion currency, of course it makes sense as a gold backed currency. Aureus and Denarius are made of gold and silver by lore. However, it is still a currency of the enemy of the NCR and a hostile nation as viewed by Mr House. The money is only valuable as precious metals, with an overall melt value. As Dead Money demonstrated, gold is indeed still valuable in the West Coast, with a value of over $4,000 NCR or over 10,000 caps for a 35lb bar of 24k gold. Overall, the NCR is a pushy guest with certain privileges in NV. The official NCR border is marked by Hoover Dam, the Colorado River, and the Mojave Outpost. Everything else is technically independent or under House, as shown by the need for an official embassy on the Strip and a treaty dictated by House that NCR begrudgingly obeys. Their currency is weak and only valuable to them, not to the other wastelanders.
People don't give enough credit to bethesda for bringing an isometric game into 3d so seamlessly and they definitely don't give fallout 3 credit for what it did for the series , it practically saved it and was the foundation that new vegas was built upon but even not considering what it did for the series and gaming as a whole its still a damn good game.
Funny thing for me is that, the part I actually loved from FNV in comparison with Fallout 3 is that how much combat was enhanced and how much deeper It is, but the game barely uses It's mechanics effectevly since the world barely has combat encounters outside scripted ones (there's at least tons of scripted moments), which is completely alien for 3 since pretty all of combat was random and was leveled (something New Vegas didn't seen to have all that much, which is sort of fine and not fine for me, It's fun to mow down the enterity of Cottonwood Cove and Legion main camp without breaking a sweat, but It's not rewarding from gameplay perspective, only from a completion one). I probably one of the only people that really like all the jankyness of Fallout 3 and FNV combat, It feels borderline wrong to play something fluid like Half Life when you're so used to jank. And Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics combat are also great, I love how fast almost everything die on 1 and 2 (Tactics is better with a mod that really increases the damage of all weapons, It becomes something akin Xcom where a single mistake will get your squad killed and a moment of careleness makes the rest of the level harder, otherwise It can be boring simply because nobody dies without receiving a full clip).
Tenpenny Towers also fits a "New Vegas" style, also, what some complain is that, contrary to 1 and 2, it doesn't feel as if humanity is begining to crawl out of post-apoc and slowly rebuild
