    As a kid I used to have the same way of thinking that I needed to eradicate where I believed that for the sideckicked ball it will "take longer" to hit the ground, because it has a longer distance to cover and it "naturally" has to take longer. The thing is - this ball does not act up, instead it is BEING ACTED UPON. So it doesn't make any effort (in layman's terms). Plus, when it hits the ground, it keeps on rolling forward because v0 is still in effect, until friction reduces it down to 0.

    A projectile trajectory is never a parabole, and it is not possible to separate x and z equations. If you are a soldier you risk to kill a lot of innocent people and may-be friends if you assume a parabolic trajectory.
