    That secret service joke about black guy getting shot, no way was she going to top that.

    • @schlafanzyk
      @schlafanzyk 9 років тому +65

      bleunt That was actually the one joke I was hoping for. Colbert made a few dozen of those kind of powerful jokes. I wish she had a few more than two or three in her.
      Also, it is so pathetic that the first time we have a black President, the Secret Service drops the ball that badly. It might just be the fact that more crazy people out there want to show him that he isn't untouchable, but still: Racism isn't limited to the public, it probably extends into the Secret Service.

      schlafanzyk I don't' think the SS cares about the race of the officeholder, but his nonchalant style in office has probably made him more vulnerable since they're like this is a cool boss so let's be laid back too; I was mad as fuck at Obama when he went out in public randomly without first telling the SS (remember those letting the bear out moments)...that was very foolish of him. He could have started a civil war if some crazy white supremacist had put a bullet in his chest or something and killed him. Can you imagine how fucked up America would be if he ever got assassinated. I know I'd be still crying it would be worst than Abe's or JFK's or even MLK and Malcolm X's assassinations combined because it would have taken place in a modern time. I strongly think the blunders that have happened have been massively overstated, even the one with the VET who ran past the guards. They could have plucked that guy from the roof with a scope but he was no real threat and the POTUS was not even in the WH at the time; trust me, had POTUS been there when he stormed through, we'd be having a funeral instead of a trial.

Her bladder, liver, stomach and gallbladder are moved out of place to the point that she can barley walk or even breathe, and then go through excruciating pain. He was talking about his friendship with Joe Biden and remarks, "We've gotten so close, in some places in Indiana, they won't serve us pizza anymore." The idea that if a man told the same joke that it wouldn't come across as funny is a fallacy.

Conversely, every cutaway to Wolf Blitzer he looked like he was about to deliver his grandmother's eulogy. (alt) ...he looked like he'd just been text'd his termination notice. I didn't think anyone could top Colbert's Correspondents Dinner speech back in 2006, but I think this did. Cecily was amazing. The media not laughing much just shows how out of touch they are... or how tightly their metaphorical balls are in a vice by the rich person sitting next to them.

    • @DiverseLA
      @DiverseLA 9 років тому +2

      robb1324 Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel, and Conan O'Brien were all easily funnier than Cecily. See, being funny does not simply entail "pushing buttons" or saying something intelligent and insightful.

    • @schlafanzyk
      @schlafanzyk 9 років тому

      robb1324 Oh please, you gotta be kidding me. Just because she is a woman and told the media to shut up about Hillary's looks? I agree of course, but that's not revolutionary. It's pandering for applause like a politician, a lot of it was. Now that's fine as a comedian, but let's not have any illusions about what she did here. She was barely a 5.5 out of 10 on the Colbert scale. She had 3 or 4 jokes that rivaled his performance and may have been better than his average of the whole act, but that was it. Most of them were fluffing. It wasn't bad, in fact, I still really enjoyed it. But it was not even close to the brilliance Colbert delivered, so let's not kid ourselves. Even McHale and Kimmel were better overall. I wish she was as good as you seem to think she was. We desperately need that. And I hope it will be a woman, so that this kind of debate can be over. But it didn't happen this time. Not a single joke about the NSA, Snowden or anything slightly controversial. But I doubt people in charge would even allow that to get into the script again anyway. She would have to go off script and sneak that in from memory, which is one hell of a task. I don't blame her for not having the courage or confidence to do that. I wouldn't either. That's why Colbert was such a true hero. He managed to do what nobody dared or even thought possible at the time. It was historic.
