I love this. Congrats to Salt-n-Pepa for their accolades and recognition, and definitely props to Roxanne Shanté for being the best to ever do it, and for doing this interview.
I am now..And definitely back then was a die hard Salt & Pepa fan! So happy i came up in the era i came up in! Salt & Pepa was the shit! Many came after but they were the first!!! Much respect to S & P..i still feel some type of way about how they did Spinderella! Much love & respect to Spin!!
These ladies deserve all the accolades! Pioneers who didn't even know the doors they were opening at the time! They are role models and proof that your career doesn't end just because you don't have a current record playin on the radio.
I love all these women and they deserve all the accolades. I wish Shante’ really interviewed them with more questions. Good seeing y’all. Missed seeing Spin ❤
I TRULY love Salt-N-Pepa. Was just listening to push it album two days ago. But I love Spinderella as apart of the group as well. Why no one is speaking about Spin ??? 🤔🤔🤔
Dope. Good talk... but def too short😔 They were two of the most influential female mcees at that time, and were witnesses to so many monumental pivots in Hip Hop history so there's so much left to cover. I hope to see them in more interviews.
Both of them are very good at dancing, performing and rapping and they both deserve to be treated equally as well and they deserve to be recognized as one of the greatest artists of all times and they deserve to be respected as one of the most talented artists of all times
Mad respect to Roxanne Shante. Give her all her flowers every day from this point forward. I'm so glad to see her get her shine after all these years. Respect due. As for these other ladies (S&P), I don't respect them after the way they treated Spinderella. All the so-called women empowerment... they were a fraud. When it really mattered, they showed up as trash. The legacy is tarnished.
It would be solid if they did a song together. Shante and Salt, can sound similar in attitude style, pitch and delivery. Side note: Salt to me, has the BEST rap vocal.
Much respect to SnP!! I'm glad I grew up watching them as a kid. They were a big part of me falling in love with Hip Hop. Very Necessary is still one of my fav Hip Hop albums.
Great interview I wish it were longer but you are correct about dc back then, if it wasn’t GoGo dc wasn’t showing you any love and salt n Pepa were one of the only artist to get the same love as GoGo bands
Just realised that S n P and Shante were on the Colors Soundtrack album aswell.......Let the rhythm run and Go on girl....Ace film and album on wax is in my vinyl collection...
I have a lot of respect for all these ladies, the glass ceiling they broke through, how they paved the way for women, and their impact on the culture. As an old school DJ, I have all of their records (doubles even). Roxanne's story about using her influence within her contract to earn a college degree is a priceless blueprint that should be followed. That said, hearing her on Rock the Bells radio hurts. As smart and intelligent of a woman that she has become, she using explicit language on the air far too much. I know she's hip and knows the streets, but she's on another level. With her mind, she should never lower herself or "dumb-down" to be street cool. She should make others rise up to her level. I understand keeping it real, but have a public switch. Other than that... much respect to these legends.
