Certainly I have appreciation for the various artists and their styles. But somehow, I always come back to Angelina because of the creativity and emotion she brings while still paying respect to the original artist. Just a genius.
Wow Angelina is amazing. Rewriting this song for her tender years. Only 10? Amy Winehouse is an original God rest her soul. Angelina is an amazing talent in every way.

I first came across one of Angelina's videos about 6 months ago. I'm 71 yrs young and honestly, listening to her voice, It was mesmerizing!! To say the least I became an instant fan of this outstandingly talented young lady. She is so humble and down to earth, a complete breath of fresh air.
Scary unbelievable phenomenal amazing she’s the real deal. If the freaks in show biz don’t wreck her GRAMMYS TONYS OSCARS the sky has no limit for this young lady OMG
Angelina Jordan is the epitome of true born talent. A gift! So many out there that have mediocre voices constructed by correction equipment. She's an absolute natural.
I love when she does Amy Winehouse but this is especially remarkable. KORK is the National Public Radio Orchestra of Norway. I've read this was the first take and she finished the lyrics on the ride to the studio. I've liked a lot of artists but I never had a 'favorite' until Angelina. Thanks, Alan, for what you do.
Apparently it took 2 takes. There is a video of her not being happy with the 1st take. I don't have the link, but it's probably on grandma's fan channel. There is also a video of her & family in a limo, on the way to this recording session & she is shuffling the papers putting the finishing touches on the lyrics.
@@keithserafy It took at least 2 takes. I've seen that video as well and she was not happy with her own timing at one spot. She was too shy to take it up with the MD directly so she called on one of her family (waving her arm).. A lot of pressure with musicians probably wanting to go home..
Exactly. Amy Winehouse will always be remembered as Amy Winehouse. A genius in her time. But history goes on. she will not remain the best.Development continues. And Angelina has taken her place. That's the way things go.
Great job, Alan! 👏👏👏 Amy Winehouse... my goodness! What an artist! In my opinion and as you said, one of the greatest of the 20th century. Her death was a real blow for many, for music and art in general 😢 Many people have said when Angelina covers someone, she sounds better than the original. Never about Amy. And I agree, if anyone can get close to Amy's talent is Angelina 💕 "Valerie", "Rehab", "I'm no good", "Back to Black" Angelina's versions are so similar yet have the Angelina touch it's mind boggling! Fortunately, Angelina has her "shield" who accompanies her, supports her and protects her wherever she goes, specially because she started her career so early in life. 💖 Angelina has sung this song on other occasions as well, when she was more familiar with the lyrics she had to re-write to make them age appropriate. One thing that's recurring in her songwriting is the "moon", I think for her love and attachment to "Fly Me to the Moon" a song she has included in lots of her concerts, live and recorded performances. P.S.: For me it's "I fall back in LOVE, I love you soo" not "laugh". Laugh doesn't make any sense, IMO But what do I know, lol
And she's wearing WHITE. I love her expansive intellect and how her arrangements incorporate every detail - down to her wardrobe. She is a true gift to us. Thank You, God!
I've been to the record stores buying music for over 45 years. The average speding time was two hours. The only time that i stayed ten minutes was one day in 2006 when i ender the music store and i heard Back to Black playing from the speakers.I asked who she was i bought the cd and i went straight home.Amy Winehouse was one and only.Ηer personal life Angelina Jordan is something that she must avoid at any cost.We who love good music we know that if you don't have the right support from managers, musicians and the record company you ain't go nowhere. We will see.We don't want an exellent and unique vioce like hers to be lost. She has a lot to offer in quality music.I wish on each and everyone good health and good years to come by to enjoy Angelina in good music. It will be a very good journey.Greedings from Greece.
Thank you for your kind words. I believe that the phase of uninitiated reactors is in decline. Much better to try and explain the inexplicable- even if it's not possible. The Hows and Whys. Sometimes it's not the destination but the journey. And AJ provides such rich material on so many levels
With so many covers and tributes by Angelina one can say without exaggeration: this is far better than the original. And you are right: Here the two are on par. But: Amy in top of her form ever and Angelina at elementary school age! That´s so Incredible!❤
Alan, what i like about your videos is the fact you showcase Angelina, the artist, and not simply the songs she sings. By bringing her to the forefront, you pique the interest of your viewers, and leave them with the desire to delve further into her musical talent.
I was never a big fan of Amy's music but I thought Angelina's interpretation was as good as any and the very fact that you are comparing a 10 yr, old to other singers in there 20 , also Rember this is Angelina's 3rd or 4th language. Just shows what a extraordinary talent she is ..I enjoyed your reaction
People keep saying that like she doesn’t know the English language. She has been speaking English quite fluently since she was at least 5 years old. There is a video of her giving a tour of her bedroom and sings a little Rolling in the Deep with a toy guitar
Hello again my friend. Yet another wonderful job of assembling, coordinating, and contrasting, and discussing honestly the prodigal talent that is Angelina. From early on in my journey down the rabbit hole, I also can honestly tell you that Amy Winehouse is the only other singer in the modern era that gives me chills like Angelina does. Angelina's gifts are luckily more versatile, but as far as quality voice, yeah Amy was one of a kind and the absolute best of her genre. Angelina is one of a kind as well, and I believe her power will increase as she enters her 20s, but she has an added depth and with her versatile and layered vocals, and the unmatched ability to reach into our souls and embrace us with love like no other singer to my knowledge in history. May you rest in peace Amy, thank you for all that you did for music! Now the torch is in Angelina's hands. Long live Angelina!
Thanks for this reaction Alan. I heard several covers of several songs from Amy. Amy was my first addiction(in music😜) now it is Angelina. IMO she is the only one who can compare with Amy and the only one who has the same and correct timing and interpretations of Amy's songs.
Oh yah it’s funny, but yes as young as she is she doesn’t have a lot of life experience to fall back on, so just think how crazy good she is going to wind up.
Alan , the YT algorithm took me back to black after listening to your heal the world video. I forgot how awesome this video was. Angelina’s version at 10(?) is amazing. AJ did a recent version with the original lyrics (unfortunately just a fragment of the whole song) but her voice is even more suited to the song today!
Alan many thanks for once again looking at a number of different artists covering the same song. For me, it helps solidify my deep love and respect for Angelina as a musical artist while at the same time learning about artists I am not familiar with .
If you look at Amy's ending, you'll notice she gives a quick courtesy. What I find fascinating is that Angelina is constantly doing that little courtesy when she performs on stage, without realizing Amy did it too.
I think for Angelina, the more traditional bow was a problem because of the floral arrangements in her hair - I'm sure she must have been very happy to see Amy do something more manageable! Perhaps this feature along with the vowel modifications and of course the hair styles are the things that Angelina carries through to this day.
@@lesgray6183 Angelina is still shown doing that mini-courtesy after many stage performances, even when she has elaborate head decorations on, which I'm sure are Norwegian cultural in nature. When she sang before the National Orchestra of Norway, wearing elaborate head decoration, she still does the cute, mini-courtesy as her sign of thanks and respect to the audience and this is repeated many, many times. I believe it all began with being taught this showing respect by her mother, very early on . Now, with her being 'Americanized', if you will, we may no longer see it as often, but along with her never wearing shoes, which she has vowed will always be associated with her stage performances, I'll be curious to see if 'Americanization', accompanied by her reaching an older age, will totally 'win out' over the Norwegian inspired 'courtesy' we are so used to seeing. I'm sure if she performs before 'royalty' she will instinctively continue to do it, but I'm not so sure with standard stage performances. I've also noticed that in addition to wearing elaborate Norwegian clothing and 'bouffant' hair designs, she can also (at times) be seen wearing Persian inspired clothing. This is definitely to please her grandmother and perhaps she reserves it for doing performances that deal with songs she performs during holiday seasons like Christmas and such. In ending I'll say that I have so much respect for the type of mother Sara has been. Angelina has and will always, in my opinion, be the type of daughter anyone would be proud to call their own child and a lot of that is due to her mom's upbringing.
Thanks Alan - yes, not bad for a 10 year old indeed 😄 (understatement -LOL). I’m enjoying your format of showing various artist’s versions in these videos. I also like Angelina’s referencing the Moon in many of her songs and videos - seems to maybe hold a special meaning or symbolism for her.
Not bad for a 10 year old young lady. As I heard the story, Angelina arranged the lyrics on her way to the recording studio because her mom told her she had to change the word if she wanted to sing this song because she had to make it more age appropriate.
Hi Alan. Guess who. Sorry. Can't help it. Nice video. Liked it. You touched a sour topic. The tragic death of too many young talents: Amy/Kurt/Janis/ jimi/Jim and, if I may add, Whitney, Lenny Bruce. Their misfortune was they all had some inner weaknesses and, most of all, they didn't have a SHIELD. Angelina has none of the former and plenty of the latter. Now,down to business. The voice. "There's something in her voice". In these 3 plus years I've been following Angelina, I've listened to hundreds of reactors (only Angelina's) and suddenly striked me the fact that, among all the praises/technical terms/personal emozioni etc, there was a word recurrent in all their reactions. " Her Voice ". My high school was a "Liceo Classico". Greek and Latin were in it (bleah). Anyway, I couldn't but associate it with Homer. The Syrens. They say Syrens mesmerised and attracted saylors to killer them( or worse). I'm not quite sure Homer intended this way. What I mean is that I believe Angelina is our loving syren. She's calling us. Let's follow her. She'll take us not to our doom but to a better world. Maybe you can make something of my blabbering. Bye. For now.
Yes I agree. Best version of Amy's many performances of this song. Wonderful. Still a gut punch to think of how much she achieved in such a short career & how much more might have been... Am a big fan of Angelina. An exceptional effort at age 11. But incongruity of vocal content & age kept dragging my attention away from full immersion. Would be interesting to see her treatment of this song now - or in 5 years time even. Oh.. and the Lead in the choral acapella piece was sooooo good. Thanks for this comparison piece.
Thank you so much for doing this Sir ,I've been following you, as I've been following Angelina, and I really appreciate it very much, thank you again 😊
Thank you Alan. Again you always amaze me. My appreciation is sky high for what you are doing. Greatest news and can't wait for more. The respect you show, consistency ,eloquence. You bring laser pointed and proper focus, making sense of what we feel. Can't thank you enough.
The difference between Amy and Angelina and the other artists is that the others try to sing emotional, try to sing as beautiful as they can. And yes, some can. But A&A aren't trying, they just sing the song and ARE emotional. They don't try to sing beautiful, they just want to tell a story rather than to sing good. I don't think they even care. And even if there should have been a false note, it would have sounded right. That's talent.
This young lady is undoubtedly gifted but Amy had something in her voice that was unique. Her sufference maybe. Other singers can only emule it but Amy was, I repeat, unique and this makes an artist special
Your presentation is unique and interesting in that one can hear the various artists and their renditions of the song. I enjoy the contrast and comparison to Angelina who never disappoints.
Thanks Alan, for all the work you put into this. I hadn’t heard most of these so it was really interesting. I’m here for Amy and AJ, who I believe are the greatest gifts of all
Yet again another exceptional journey through performances of this song. The main issue I have with the idea of comparing these performances is that Angelina's was only a rehearsal and possibly the first or second run through. I get the impression that this rehearsal took place after Angelina had been to the fun fair with her school friends. Her vocal warm up was screaming her lungs out on the roller coaster! If you ever thought she couldn't belt out the ultra high notes... After that rides there is a video showing her in the car with her friends in the back, she is in the front reading the lyrics for the rehearsal that was to follow (wearing the same clothes....). I will try to find the link, so far I'm only finding Grandma's shaky footage, there is an NRK crew filming plus drone (perhaps the same crew that filmed the rehearsal?). This poor girl never gets a private moment....
I know this might seem biased since I and Norwegian, but after hearing Angelina Jordan voice every other artist seem like they do not matter - every time I hear her voice I get a chill down my spine - she is truly of another world and a voice that we never have heard for a long time. She is a gift to us and every day I have to lissen to her to bring the spirit on ...... and get me going ..... I am just addicted and with good feelings
Thanks Alan, it’s interesting to see all the artists performing the same song one after the other. Your introductions are excellent! Angelina looks like entering the studio and starting to sing immediately. I like the look full of respect of the violin player in the background when she starts. He knows he’s witnessing a unique moment. Angelina is simply amazing.
Adriaan Rijllart, I agree with your remarks about the violin player. If you notice he closes his eyes couple times to allow his brain to digest what he is hearing is real.
Hi, When you say Angelina is not better than Amy, I beg to differ.. Only because Angelina is Angelina doing her own rendition. I bet you if Amy was still alive and tried to do a rendition of a Angelina Song, she would not even come close to AJ’s Tonality, as Talented as she was.. The thing to recognise is when doing a rendition of someone else song, it’s to add something of your Own artistry or signature to it So it becomes your own.. A very young Angelina Jordan achieved that goal with flying colours.. Not only that, but she kept it authentic wile making it her own at the same time.. Not many artists can achieve that fine Balance with such a iconic song that everybody knows.. Angelina has also inherited some of Amy’s skill-set like many iconic artists she has covered before.. in this case, she has inherited Amy Rasp, and she has a Insane control over it for someone so young. Trying to say who is better is really a preference thing.. for Me, I’m a Big Amy fan but what I love about a Singer is, that story telling ability’s , You know when it is kept simple without Unnecessary runs when it’s not needed.. Sometimes to much runs take away the story or message of a song.. Angelina focuses more on the emotions of the Song and telling you the story or Message.. this is the key/ signature or Sacred Art of Real Grate singers.. when telling you the story of the song without over singing.. Amy is doing a lot of over singing in this particular rendition of her own song.. if you know Amy’s unfortunate habits before and after performing, you will know why.. Amy & Angelina has two completely deferent upbringing and life experiences.. these key things make an Artist who they are or it can also take away from there Artistry.
@@thealanpapier I know, I’ve seen a lot of them 😉 I just don’t always make a comment or share my insight because I can be a little blunt and down to the point, and some ppl can be a little touchy when you’re being straight to the point with them or if you have a different point of viewing things.
Well done, Alan! You know I love Angelina and her music. Unlike almost everyone else on earth, I was never an Amy Winehouse fan. I don't know why. She was obviously a talented singer, but I just never did connect all that much with the music she chose to record. That includes this particular song and Angelina's immense talent isn't enough to save it for me. That said, it was still interesting hearing the different versions and I'm still looking forward to the next one. Thanks again.
I always enjoy your work, Alan! It's obvious that you are dedicating hours into research. 👍 You mentioned Mark Ronson. There is already contact between him and Angelina. He provided the backing track for her cover of a song he wrote for Miley Cyrus, "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart", which Angelina has covered. (Angelina always puts credits where they are due in her covers.)
Great work of research and comparison on this song, Alan, very interesting, each artist has chosen a different path, in some cases even too much maybe ... but in the end, when you listen to that 10 year old wren, it seems that everything magically returns to its place right 🤗 ❤️ A thought I had while watching again this recording of Amy, I don't know if she is just my impression, but Angelina seems to share with Amy, in addition to the wonderful hair and the fantastic talent, also a certain stiffness of the movements. 🤔
i have to wonder.when amy winehouse was alive, people made fun of her on the forums.she was insulted and rejected. because she was brilliant but couldn't live the life of a star and destroyed herself. now she's dead, and everyone adores her and says she was the best of all time. that recognition and support should have been given to her while she was alive.i have always adored her and still adore her for who she was. today angelina has taken her place. she is the genius of the present and future.
The French guy is basically doing a Sam Smith meets Amy mash-up. The college choir sing "Kept his lips wet" which is a provincial cop-out. The Amy version I prefer is the one with the guitars on the wall behind her. It is similar to the one you show but even less embellished but with more punch. - Meanwhile, I find it harder to muster the sympathy for the life of a pop -star. They can always step back, escape, find solace. Us 7 to 4 workers don't have those options, or court fame. : We are here because we enjoy AJ, but her version, while deft and with the innocence and bravery of youth, lacks any punch, going for introspection and melancholy. It does work as a homage, but bottles the song somehow. Then again, as you say, for a 10 year old it is extraordinary.
Angelina at ten years old , unlike the others is as smooth as molten liquid gold with all her phrases and pronunciations. I think you need to rephrase your comment of , " trying to pay homage to her idol " she did just that ," trying" infers she missed it ,which I would assume you did not mean ...
Good point. I will need to choose my words more carefully- tho it is a delicate balance between being accurate and being spontaneous when the camera is rolling
Very good reaction, comparing to others I have not seen before. Keep it up:) Not easy to be as good as Amy, the modern version of Edith Piaf in many ways
Your comparing winehouse in her prime to Angelina as a young child a few years ago. She has grown as a performer since that recording. She has more range, depth and intensity now. I believe that she has the capacity to be one of the greatest female singers in modern history. She mesmerizes the listener and it pulls you in with every word. She is amazing and she is a gifted talent.
Alan, thank you for your world as it is also part of my world. However, this song, Back to Black has never been one of my favorites, nor is Amy Winehouse. I have never seen Amy perform until your show and must say that I think you set the bar really low, comparing her to amateur vocalists. Of course her rendition far exceeded the others. One thing I did learn about AJ's version is that she changed the word from Black, to Laugh. I had always thought that it was Love, which to me, made much more sense. It is interesting that your favorite part of the song is where the word is repeated so many times, and that your favorite part of I put a spell on you, ( possibly my favorite AJ song ) is where she sings "opera" like near the end, repeating the sound several times. I'll bet you also like Valerie where she repeats the name many times. ( not one of my favorites either ). The bottom line really is that I don't think she should be compared to any vocalist that has ever lived. She can do things with a song that I don't believe anyone else, including the original, can do. One thing is definitely true, She is in a category of her own and we are blessed to be able to experience it.
We are in agreement. We, and many others, think that AJ is the bees' knees. My challenge and priority is to come up with different ways of demonstrating her extraordinary talent
@@thealanpapier I have a suggestion for this. Select several of her songs, covers and especially originals, where she demonstrates her extraordinary range of musical talent. I say musical talent ( gift ) because she not only has a range of notes ( maybe unlimited ) that she can produce, but she marries these with different tones like growls to gravelly and hoarseness and otters. Then she interprets many of the songs such that you might think they were AJ originals. PS: I liked her younger version of I put a spell on you, much better than the one I heard from when she was older. Great work, I look forward to each presentation.
@@thealanpapier And on that note, of the 132 AJ songs available on Utube these are a few of my favourites. Some mostly because the show a different side of her musical talent. A million years ago - #1 for me. The show must go on Born to die Shield Ain't no sunshine when she's gone Any Billie Holiday Are you lonesome tonight Bang Bang (Nancy Sinatra) Cry me a River Diamonds are Forever Every Time we say Goodbye How great Thou art I put a spell on you I'd rather go blind Lovin' You Make you feel my love Something's got a hold on me Summertime Unchained Melody Welcome to my world
She's the Ying to Bocelli's Yang...two of the most gifted versitile talents on this God's Earth. It'd be such a gift to hear and see Bocelli and Angelina Jordan duet on a piece complementary to their God given talents...it'd be awesome! Would love to hear Angelina do "Valerie"... "Winehouse" was magical...she was Billie, Sara, Ella, etc., encased in one "Body and Soul". Miss her...but Angelina will be "sent" some of Amy's magic to go along with her own outstanding magic.
Alan, IMO, the obvious differences in Amy’s and Angelina’s performances, (besides the lyric editing by Angelina) is their ages. Amy clearly sings from the adult perspective of her life experiences and the emotional impact they had on her. Ten year old Angelina is performing this song from her inexperienced adolescent perspective. Her editing of the lyrics reflects her youthful an innocent approach and interpretation. IMO, Amy sang her song better because it’s her song and she was a fully mature women who’s voice was fully developed. However, much credit must be given to then ten year old Angelina for having the self confidence to tackle this song. What we got is an excellent and extremely impressive rendition of Amy’s song. Angelina clearly approached this performance with deep respect, appreciation and reverence toward Amy. To keep things in perspective, do you think a ten year old Amy could have sung nearly as well as ten year old Angelina did? I don’t think so.
I don't think she says "Laugh". I think she says "Love", as in "I fall back in love." That's what I hear her repeat the seven times. She also says laugh at certain points, and that's how I think I can distinguish the difference.
Originally, I also thought she sang, 'Love'. But in a previous video I was corrected. The lyrics for this song have the word 'laugh'. Either way, she's a star
@@thealanpapier Alan, can you point me to that so I can see who corrected you? Are those lyrics from her or another? In the studio scene for this song it sounds very much like 'love' and the word context is right for 'love'.
Amy wrote the song about herself and you feel her pain every time she sings it. It kills me every time.AJ hasn,t enough worldly experience do this song justice YET.
The thing abt Amy is the full package… she is a Beyond incredible vocalist, a top tier lyricist and her personality and persona are certainly addictive… overall I think she impersonates what an artist should be. And while I think Angelina is certainly on her way to be an beyond talented artist I wouldn’t say she is at Amy Winehouse’s level or beyond quite yet (as most are saying)… she is bond to get there eventually for sure… she is a truly genius vocalist, a bright star for sure.
I have this channel devoted exclusively to Angelina- and I think she's the best thing since sliced bread. But, in my view, she simply does not do this song better than Amy- and I would be dishonest to say otherwise. Sure, there will be some AJ purists who will disagree with me- after all, I am preaching to the converted- but I have to call them as I see them
As always I enjoy your analysis Alan. Love the new format of hearing other versions. And I agree it’s not fair to try to compare Angelina to Amy. Her and Adele were huge influences for her and I’m certain she probably sang along with songs by those artists so naturally she’s going to try to create the textures those artists create with their voices. There are artists already covering Angelina’s songs. I am curious about the story that she only got a day to rewrite the lyrics. I would like to hear her talk about that one day. Obviously the lyrics are not appropriate for a ten year old but it would seem someone would have noticed that long before the day before the recording. Perhaps she had lyrics written but was just tinkering with them on the limo ride over. You see her refer to the written lyrics as she is singing
Hi Jeff, Yes, I heard she was revising the lyrics on the way to the recording. Her family have maintained careful but appropriate guidelines with her development. They steer her away from references to sex, drugs, religion and suicide. Fair enough At the moment, I am formulating 'AJ meets Adele'. My challenge, as always , is to give it a unique spin. Cheers AP
Hello Alan. Just wanna say that is you haven't reacted Angelina's version of "A Million Years Ago" you absolutely should. Also "Born to Die", "Valerie" and "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart" are among her best. Cheers, mate.
It sounds to me that she says "I fall back in Love" because many times she changes her vowel sounds and love makes more sense with her lyrics. I saw the lyrics online but sometimes other people post those, not Angelina. Also, you don't fall in laugh. I am not criticizing you because I saw what the lyrics said online but I would love to find out for sure. I love your reactions
I listened and listened to AJ's line: "I fall back in ..." You said she changed the lyrics to "laugh," but I don't hear that. I hear, quite clearly, "love," (but the vowel sound is sort of an /ah/ rather than /o/.) I truly believe that was her intention. English is, after all, her second (or third) language, so the vowel sounds are sometimes a bit squishy, and elastic. Just saying. Wish we could ask her !
For me, I prefer Angelina’s version. Although, both Amy (God Rest Her Soul) and Angelina are amazing artists, Angelina has a softer tone which I prefer. Amy set a rough footprint to follow. That’s for are
Angelina was 10 years old and an Amy Winehouse fan. Her mother wouldn't let her do 'Back to Black' unless she changed the lyrics to something age appropriate. So Angelina rewrote it.
Certainly I have appreciation for the various artists and their styles. But somehow, I always come back to Angelina because of the creativity and emotion she brings while still paying respect to the original artist. Just a genius.
Love Amy's raw emotion but somehow Angelina's version was haunting and narcotic. I wanted to hear it all over again, like falling back to black.
Wow Angelina is amazing. Rewriting this song for her tender years. Only 10? Amy Winehouse is an original God rest her soul. Angelina is an amazing talent in every way.

Exactly. Amy Winehouse will always be remembered as Amy Winehouse. A genius in her time. But history goes on. she will not remain the best.Development continues. And Angelina has taken her place. That's the way things go.

Reactors sometimes forget that Angelina is still a child - singing as good or better than those twice her age.
There is no questions Angelina is simply remarkable, a prodigy.
Great presentation as always. No one can do Amy like Angie can.... its no coincidence that no so called super stars ever dared to cover this song...
Glad to hear you say we have "quite a distance more" to go with Angelina. I really enjoy this venue. Great job!
Next 5 videos are recorded and edited + 3 more in the planning stage. Set your alarm for Saturdays 3pm London time

Enjoyed your coverage of the song by others & Amy . . . . and then Angelina . Thanks ! RH
I,m always overwhelmed by the incongruity of Angelinas age vs the passion and her ability to stir the soul..
Alan many thanks for once again looking at a number of different artists covering the same song. For me, it helps solidify my deep love and respect for Angelina as a musical artist while at the same time learning about artists I am not familiar with .
If you look at Amy's ending, you'll notice she gives a quick courtesy.
What I find fascinating is that Angelina is constantly doing that little
courtesy when she performs on stage, without realizing Amy did it
too.
I think for Angelina, the more traditional bow was a problem because of the floral arrangements in her hair - I'm sure she must have been very happy to see Amy do something more manageable! Perhaps this feature along with the vowel modifications and of course the hair styles are the things that Angelina carries through to this day.
@@lesgray6183 Angelina is still shown doing that mini-courtesy after many
stage performances, even when she has elaborate head decorations on,
which I'm sure are Norwegian cultural in nature. When she sang before
the National Orchestra of Norway, wearing elaborate head decoration,
she still does the cute, mini-courtesy as her sign of thanks and respect
to the audience and this is repeated many, many times. I believe it all
began with being taught this showing respect by her mother, very early
on . Now, with her being 'Americanized', if you will, we may no longer see
it as often, but along with her never wearing shoes, which she has vowed
will always be associated with her stage performances, I'll be curious to
see if 'Americanization', accompanied by her reaching an older age, will
totally 'win out' over the Norwegian inspired 'courtesy' we are so used to
seeing. I'm sure if she performs before 'royalty' she will instinctively
continue to do it, but I'm not so sure with standard stage performances.
I've also noticed that in addition to wearing elaborate Norwegian clothing
and 'bouffant' hair designs, she can also (at times) be seen wearing
Persian inspired clothing. This is definitely to please her grandmother and
perhaps she reserves it for doing performances that deal with songs she
performs during holiday seasons like Christmas and such. In ending I'll say
that I have so much respect for the type of mother Sara has been. Angelina
has and will always, in my opinion, be the type of daughter anyone would be
proud to call their own child and a lot of that is due to her mom's upbringing.
She started singing at so early age and was and is magnificent !
Thanks again alan, loved your treatment here. Well done, Steve
they're different... both best in their own way. I like Angelina... how delicate
Thank you so much for doing this Sir ,I've been following you, as I've been following Angelina, and I really appreciate it very much, thank you again 😊
Yes! I'm glad you chose the version from Amy at Dingle. I also think that's the best version (and the guy in the hat is amazing!).
Thank you Alan. Again you always amaze me. My appreciation is sky high for what you are doing. Greatest news and can't wait for more. The respect you show, consistency ,eloquence. You bring laser pointed and proper focus, making sense of what we feel. Can't thank you enough.

👍Best comment ever!
Have a nice day🙂
Well done again thanks Alan, loved your dancing.
When you reach a certain age, the mind is willing but the flesh is hesitant
The difference between Amy and Angelina and the other artists is that the others try to sing emotional, try to sing as beautiful as they can. And yes, some can. But A&A aren't trying, they just sing the song and ARE emotional. They don't try to sing beautiful, they just want to tell a story rather than to sing good. I don't think they even care. And even if there should have been a false note, it would have sounded right. That's talent.
Great Alan. Inciteful and Angelina is so perfect. Thank you.
Insightful, that is.
Spot-on comparison video. I love the varied versions you found. Hadn't heard a couple of them. Wonderful work, Alan.
I enjoy the contrast and comparison to Angelina who never disappoints.
it will be interesting to here A. Jordan in10 more years. She is quite young yet.
There are thousands and thousands of people all around the world who have exactly the same reaction as you.
Welcome to the club

I love Amy, there’s no one like her, at all. But I’ve Angelina since she was tiny, she too is remarkable.
NAILED it again as usual, Alan!! (I think I'm being redundant. ) Can't thank you enough.
She will be one of the best soul singers in the world , if she will not get under the wheels of the dangerous monstertruck called „showbiz“
I like this beat box version.
Well, all this proves is that Angelina is by far the best there is or has been really to be honest.
So sad. Amy was unbelievable. What a loss to the world
Angelina is amazing👏👏😊
Thanks Alan, it’s interesting to see all the artists performing the same song one after the other. Your introductions are excellent! Angelina looks like entering the studio and starting to sing immediately. I like the look full of respect of the violin player in the background when she starts. He knows he’s witnessing a unique moment. Angelina is simply amazing.
I have been very aware of that violin player in the background. I can never decide whether his look is one of respect or scepticism
@@thealanpapier I interpret it as respect, but I can be mistaken of course.
Adriaan Rijllart, I agree with your remarks about the violin player. If you notice he closes his eyes couple times to allow his brain to digest what he is hearing is real.

@@thealanpapier We have noticed and DO appreciate your contributions!!
@@thealanpapier You are not likely to run out of material, ever.
An indication just how difficult this song is. Only the A Capella version comes close.
Hi,
When you say Angelina is not better than Amy, I beg to differ.. Only because Angelina is Angelina doing her own rendition.
I bet you if Amy was still alive and tried to do a rendition of a Angelina Song, she would not even come close to AJ’s Tonality, as Talented as she was..
The thing to recognise is when doing a rendition of someone else song, it’s to add something of your Own artistry or signature to it
So it becomes your own..
Trying to say who is better is really a preference thing.. for Me, I’m a Big Amy fan but what I love about a Singer is, that story telling ability’s ,
You know when it is kept simple without Unnecessary runs when it’s not needed..
Amy & Angelina has two completely deferent upbringing and life experiences.. these key things make an Artist who they are or it can
also take away from there Artistry.
All I need to say is that I have made 21 videos- and they have all featured Angelina!! Enough said!!
@@thealanpapier I know, I’ve seen a lot of them 😉 I just don’t always make a comment or share my insight because I can be a little blunt and down to the point, and some ppl can be a little touchy when you’re being straight to the point with them or if you have a different point of viewing things.
Angelina has an amazing voice at her age. I enjoy it but it seems somewhat forced and more of an imitation than original.
I am a new fan of yours! Thank you for doing this video⭐
Give her 10 years of seasoning and her voice will get deeper and richer.
I felt everything Amy sang, such a talent
Angelina is brilliant. Amy sings the experience.
Great work of research and comparison on this song, Alan, very interesting, each artist has chosen a different path, in some cases even too much maybe ... but in the end, when you listen to that 10 year old wren, it seems that everything magically returns to its place right 🤗 ❤️
A thought I had while watching again this recording of Amy, I don't know if she is just my impression, but Angelina seems to share with Amy, in addition to the wonderful hair and the fantastic talent, also a certain stiffness of the movements. 🤔
Another great compilation. Thank you Alan.
i have to wonder.when amy winehouse was alive, people made fun of her on the forums.she was insulted and rejected. because she was brilliant but couldn't live the life of a star and destroyed herself. now she's dead, and everyone adores her and says she was the best of all time. that recognition and support should have been given to her while she was alive.i have always adored her and still adore her for who she was. today angelina has taken her place. she is the genius of the present and future.
Love this, Alan. Thanks for your efforts!
Alan, you're the best. Fastest 19 minutes on youtube. Also, we dance the same.
Excellent ! Merci de Nouvelle-Calédonie 🌺🌞
Very, very good job..........thanks a lot Dr G
Very good reaction, comparing to others I have not seen before. Keep it up:) Not easy to be as good as Amy, the modern version of Edith Piaf in many ways
Your comparing winehouse in her prime to Angelina as a young child a few years ago. She has grown as a performer since that recording. She has more range, depth and intensity now. I believe that she has the capacity to be one of the greatest female singers in modern history. She mesmerizes the listener and it pulls you in with every word. She is amazing and she is a gifted talent.
Don't I know it!! That's why I have a whole channel only for Angelina and not for Amy W
LOVE the choir version. Wow.
Me too!! It's extremely underrated. And it only has 8.5k views in 5 years. Go figure
Wow love her
Love what you play this morning

Miss her...but Angelina will be "sent" some of Amy's magic to go along with her own outstanding magic.
silver Look up Angelina's Valerie on YT.
Good comment. Pretty much sums up what I was trying to communicate in this video
I don't think she says "Laugh". I think she says "Love", as in "I fall back in love." That's what I hear her repeat the seven times. She also says laugh at certain points, and that's how I think I can distinguish the difference.
Agree.

A big part of Amy Winehouse was her visual charisma, and yes she can sing great, but I prefer A,J and she can sing anything her range is unbelievable
When I saw we have the same favorite version of Back to Black - Amy Winehouse I just had to subscribe.
I have this channel devoted exclusively to Angelina- and I think she's the best thing since sliced bread. But, in my view, she simply does not do this song better than Amy- and I would be dishonest to say otherwise.
Sure, there will be some AJ purists who will disagree with me- after all, I am preaching to the converted- but I have to call them as I see them
yeah, but look how many did not die and still makes music today. Amy is a wonderful singer.
Great work, very thorough. My first time here and I really enjoyed how you out corresponding examples together and the discussion of why.
Angelina Jordan really liked her performance also I like Amy Winehouse her performance to me so close
Fair enough
At the moment, I am formulating 'AJ meets Adele'.

Angelina was wonderful..but Amy..wow
It sounds to me that she says "I fall back in Love" because many times she changes her vowel sounds and love makes more sense with her lyrics. I saw the lyrics online but sometimes other people post those, not Angelina. Also, you don't fall in laugh. I am not criticizing you because I saw what the lyrics said online but I would love to find out for sure. I love your reactions
😇 angel has a halo in her voice. Alan your wrong this time. Winehouse has a dark heart.
I wish people would stop comparing her to other artists she's doing her own thing please leave her alone
