Thank you for keeping us on the bleeding edge of Georgia's democratic crisis. When friends and family ask me, "What the heck is going on in ___?" yours and a small handful of channels make it possible for me to reply, "How much context and detail do you have time for?"

@26:50 Europe adopted a similar approach to the uprising in Iran, known as the Mahsa Protests: offering verbal sympathy but providing no tangible support to the people, hundreds of whom were killed and thousands arrested.
It is worth mentioning that the only support these protesters were expecting was sanctioning the people who were involved in brutal suppression of peaceful protests itself!

good that you brought up Volker. I've been looking into him a lot recently and seeing that he's had some strange misjudgements or something, over time. He's famous in diplo american circles for having more ambition than wisdom/judgement, and to me he fits into the mistaken framing that american foreign policy fell into in some regards in the past.

causually listening to this conversation, what strikes me is how overwhelming the problems of the world are out there and the never ending pleas for help, no wonder most people just tune out politcics - especially international -, the begging for help never ends, from the food banks, the animal welfare people, relgious special interest groups, local congregation/parish, give us more or we close, disease interest groups, the local hospital fundraiser, the school kids asking for school book support because of so called government cuts, and then overseas people complaining that we never send them enough, the begging and demands never end and what did I/we do to cause these problems?!
More importantly, what is a workable reaction to these problems outside of doing well in one's small pocket of operation, and yes people want to tune out bad news, as it just gets one down. Thank you for reporting, but realistically one needs to be more relateable at the end of the discussions to the listeners living experience or most will tune out I suspect so as not to become depressed about making progress in one's life.

You’re making a good argument against universal suffrage and I agree that these people you’re referring to shouldn’t have the right to vote.
If you need things to be happy and easy on your brain, you’re a child and you shouldn’t have a say in how society is ran.

The EU is EUless.... Salome did an excellent speech to the parliament , and was rigorously applauded... meanwhile Alain Berset has been visiting for several days, and never visited the tortured in prison, having cozy time with Ivanishvili and Kobakhidze, and almost ignoring the opposition who are the rightful government. It has been seized on by GD that they were justified, and although the OSCE were critical, instead it is seen in a positive light..... the EU is slow and cumbersome, and if not careful, many people could get disheartened and against change which is dangerous.... Wake up, EU, stop pontificating and going on jolly japes on expenses and really do something useful for once..... I was for Brexit, as opposed to John Sweeney, and I feel at present that I was right, with the majority... prove me wrong, EU, I think you are just a bunch of clowns with no clout, and I believe Mad Vlad thinks that too

Hey Jonathan! I have a small request. Could you please make the connection to Maidan less prevalent? Unfortunately, the self-proclaimed Government has created a thick sack of Russian propaganda around the topic, and in the minds of their supporters Maidan was planned by GWP (Global War Party - which governs the West behind curtains and plots everything and probably has a lizard people as members), people died there (because of the cue and not because of the Yanukovych) and in the end, Maidan brought the War, which caused even more death (again, Russia is regarded as a sort of Natural disaster - something that can't be blamed here).
So your title and Thumbnail can be used by Local propaganda channels to again push their narratives that the West wants to repeat Maidan in Georgia (which is synonymous with dead protesters and police, and war, not with the fight for freedom and a better future for them).

This is a propaganda line of the Kremlin’s making - I think most Georgia’s are not affected by this negative, conspiratorial slur that the Kremlin has created. However I understand many Russians, including so-called liberals, have bought into this lie. Frankly, there’s not much I can do to change their perceptions.

Maidan was made by the ukrainian citizen. Not your conspiracy.

While i do grasp your fear, I totally disagree with your idea: it's crucial to use the historical factual terms as they are in reality, ie to never be sensitive to how a mallign actor is using the terms. This is foundational to resisting disinformation attempts, such as this that GD and RU are using. This is a no brainer, it's easy. Please worry less and just speak the truth. Maidan changed the slavic world for the first time in centuries. It happened bcuz the Ukrainians are some of the toughest ppl on earth, as most of us always knew. (there are many multi gen immigrants from long ago here in the U.S. and Canada, so we're very familiar w/ Ukrainian spirit.

@@JohnCSmith-lp1qr ahhh, so clever u think u are. Myths of power by american diplomats. Biggest joke ever. The U.S., my nation (that i've studied a lot about re its history of diplomacy, security etc) has never been skilled at influencing ppl, for better or worse. Just not our baily wick, to understate it!. Also not very good at PR.
