- Robert didn't listen to Natalie and we had an unexpected accident happen on our very first day on Siargao Island in the town of General Luna. On the Island of Siargao the old myth goes, that you either get the Siargao curse (you love the island and never want to leave), make babies there, OR you get some bad luck on the island. if you ever ride a bike again, please wear helmets and drive slowly either car or bike because driving too fast in an unfamiliar place is quite challenging, that's the basic tenet wherever you'll be....please continue posting, we love your uploads....

You are completely correct, after this accident I was always aware and kept my head on a swivel whilst driving. I learned my lesson.
@nocheckinbags What you said reminded me of the boxing champ 🏆 Manny Pacqiuao when he encountered a first major defeat then they added a swivel or Bob and weave for his head so he can see all sides attack and to avoid his head being stationary so he can see all angles where the punches are coming in for him. Then he won his rematch.

The meats in the wet market are usually slaughtered fresh daily from the slaughter house or some independent businessman. while in supermarkets they are frozen.
This is very true and I agree, but for me with my weak Canadian stomach I am always scared haha
TIP: Walk on the left side of the road where you can see oncoming vehicles. And remember that teo years ago, a devastating typhoon literally flattened Siargao and it is only now that it is recovrtong again. And although they look cute, I'd rather that you stop petting the stray dogs because rabies is rampant in the country. May I suggest that you go to Camiguin Island?
Just remember while in the Philippines be quadruple careful on the road (wherever in the Philippine islands)... Walking or driving, whatever, be very very cautious... Kamote is everywhere...
Hopefully this wont stop you from enjoying the place. Also you passby coco frio. They have amazing coconut shakes.

Extra carefull driving the scooter. Specially In the island,a few menor drive scooter,its illegal. Many cause of accident
I guess driving in Philippines is kinda dangerous compared in Canada. Am filipino myself and drivers in Canada but I guess I definitely can't drive in Philippines.. Just be careful guys.
*the signal light to the left doesnt actually give you right of way* ..... when crossing, turning to the left, turn on your signal light ... STAY PUT! look to the left, look to the right.... if vehicles are coming from the left or the right, wait for them to pass... if no more incoming vehicle or if they are still at some distance... do your turn..
If you’re not comfortable riding a scooter or motorcycle at a reasonable speed , maybe one should practice or get more experience. Going really slow is also dangerous . It impedes the flow of traffic . 25 kmph is literally 15mph which is the speed limit of most school zones in America!
Honest opinions are embraced but don’t take it personal when opinions are given back . That is one of the positives or negatives of being on a public platform.
Sir do mot be over relax or. Onfident when 1st driving in an unfamiliar environment first and cleverly asses how they are moving the things in the roads vehiclrme or people.
My first time to the Philippines I felt the same way about the meat. Nooo way. Having been there many times now and cooked with it I can honestly say my weak north american stomach never had an issue. Tbh most of the street food you guys try with meat is bought from the wet markets lol.
Oh, and do have Halo Halo!!! It translates to Mix Mix, and when you get get it you should mix it all together in the cup or bowl ..it is not what we are used to but the flavors are fantastic!

Please be extra careful next time. You are lucky indeed that there's a nurse who happened to be around - not a surprise when the Philippines supplies the better part of the world with nurses - which means you are triple lucky because someone stayed behind.
Be careful people not even obeying road rules there is a law prohibiting drunk person driving local government must implement this it will a disaster for siargao tourism if foreigners will experience accident while their on vacation or work
Be careful on petting dogs on the streets especially on a hot day because rabies are scaryyy... Last time there are lots of people and animals that got rabies because of excessive heat last time.
be careful most of them are speed crazy no license and did not study driving lesson , i dont know why the local authority allowed that and no action done
guys should go to Coron or El Nido palawan better than boracay
It’s scary to drive in the Philippines period! That country is chaotic and a lot of drivers don’t follow the law on the road.

Both of you are obviously traumatized by the accident. I dont blame you....but the flow of traffic seems normal to me...and ive watch hundreds of siargao vlogs, and this is the first time that someone complained about the way people ride their bikes there...but again, wherever you are, it pays to be careful always...

Be sure to write on the local tourism authorities' notepad and mention that Siargao needs decent hospitals or clinics. I was told I needed to go to a bigger island for serious medical attention like severe diarrhea and injuries, which is crazy!

Yeah traffic is pretty chaotic everywhere in Phils. Road rules are much more of a suggestion than a rule. The one good thing about driving around over there is you tend not to be going very fast (like 40 kph most of the time) so you typically have a fair amount of time to react and you can avoid life threatening injuries if you do happen to get in a crash as long as you're wearing your helmet. Glad you two are safe. Keep'em coming!

Wow. A bummer. Natalie was right. They need stop signs.I am Filipino American, grew up in the Philippines. Unfortunately 40 years ago, Filipinos tend not to follow rules. Though when I was there last year, it has improved. Add alcohol, then chaos. I am a physician. Hope both of you got tetanus shots. Robert needs a course of antibiotics. If not allergic to PCN, take amoxicillin 500 mg 2x a day for 7 days. The good thing in the Philippines, just go to a pharmacy even without a doctors prescription and get your antibiotics. A Filipino saying, "sa huli ang pagsisisi" meaning regret is at the end or after the fact. Be careful. Wear those helmets. Not a good thing to have a BI, brain injury.

Funny, I got into a scooter accident there also. I hit a patch of sand and hit the brakes, the fronts locked, and the rear hardly worked, i flipped over. A girl came and put some kalamungai juice on my cut, and it healed pretty quickly.

The vibes I’m getting from her is that she’s very judgmental and angry at times . The Philippines is not for her and she is not for the Philippines. It’s a developing country . The amenities and services are not going to be the same . Maybe it’s time to find another destination. Other tourists seems to have adjusted very well .
