I was just thinking about making one myself. I figured somebody else has already done it. Nice work!

i made 1 from kyles plans a few weeks ago . I just tried it on a knife the other day and, screwed knife up when trying to clean up plunges . It started to wash out up near the spine so i stopped b4 i did more damage whats the trick not to not grinding to high? tilt the knife to a slight angle? thanks Mark great video glad what you made is working for you 👍✌

I don't have any trick. Just be really careful. Use light pressure at first. Check it frequently.

awesome how well has it been holding up?

It has held up great. The alignment issue magically went away. Maybe it was just a matter of stretching the belt a little. I've done several knives on it, and so far I haven't broken any belts or had any problems. The only issue is that it gets really hot really fast, so I have to cool things off frequently. Sometimes I'll take the belt off and pour a little water over the platen to cool it off faster. This would definitely work better with a variable speed motor so I could slow it down.

Hi - I also work with a waterfall platen. But I have a problem. My waterfall platen gets extremely hot in a short time. Is that the case with you too?

Yes. That's another reason they work better if you have a variable speed motor. That way it doesn't get so hot. What I do ever now and then is just turn it off and pour some water over it to cool it off, then go again.

Coming up with a way to make this work on a 1x30 is going to require more brain cells than I have. Good luck!

Dude your scaring me...need to reverse direction with that motor...never grind with the point facing into the direction of blade travel..
