Rented this game shortly after its release from GameFly. I was in the Navy at the time. Barracks life! I don't remember beating the game, but getting really close. I had a good time with it. I miss 'different' games like this. Games have lost alot of their identity. There used to be something that made most games what they were. They usually had a specific 'gimmick' Now everything is mostly copy/paste it seems. Good game. It's worth your time.
Thank you very much for your service. I completely agree. Most games nowadays are remakes or just re-releases. There's not a lot of originality anymore, and that's why I wholeheartedly believe that indie developers are the future of the gaming industry. People are starting to realize big AAA studios like Activision and Ubisoft are releasing the same game with a different coat of paint. I hope that we get a sense of originality in the gaming industry very soon.

Fizhy unlocked a childhood memory here. The saboteur was one of the first games I ever played. Had countless hours on it as a kid. Shame we'll never see a sequel.
I just finished the game a couple of weeks ago, was probably one of the best games ive played so far, the story, the gameplay, the map, everything just felt so good. I also havent encountered any bugs or so apart from a random german truck launching itself into the stratosphere
Rented, then bought, this here game. Blowing stuff up, then making Sean walk away, facing the camera, and having him light up a cig. Action hero moment right there. XD
Ah I remember buying this game from my local pawn shop for 3 dollars back in 2017. I had just moved out and hadn't set up internet in my apartment yet, so story missions were my go to. I loved it. Although it's a little clunky, but it was made with love, just like this video! Thank you Fizhy! ❤
I grew up on this game, and I only recently finished it a few days ago after getting a PS3 again and finding my old copy of the game. This game will always be so close to my heart, if The Saboteur has zero fans I’m dead.
all we have for solid mods for this game is the Global Mod (with the 2.0 that came out earlier this year). And that is it. It comes with a a whole lot, including cut weapons/vehicules, a new mission and some extra minor stuff (like bug fixes and QoL stuff). But I really wish we could've gotten much more, seeing the concept art of the DLC they had in mind is srs heart breaking.
I never understood why Pandemic Studios dissolved. They made a lot great games back in the 2000s. Destroy All Humans 1 & 2, Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, Star Wars frickin Battlefront 1 & 2, Saboteur. Whatever happened was not due to their lack of trying or output.
Last I checked the reason was because of the amount of games they were making and a few of the games they released were not as great as Mercenaries or battlefront plus pandemic was a pretty small company so even having 2 projects at once being worked on greatly reduced progress. It doesn’t help that EA at the time were buying and shutting down competition I so wish we could get a Mercenaries 3 or the saboteur 2 in a different country.
@@cammykunn1263From what an interview came around. The reason EA shut down pandemic was because they didn't have any interest in phone games, which was their focus in 2009
If you haven't played it already, Fizhy, a game that I feel would leave you with the exact same feeling you had here is 2009's Brutal Legend. Definitely unique. Understandbale criticisms, but still hiighly underrated. And definitely one that could have been so much more if it had a sequel.
Worked on certification on this game back in 2009. One of the best things that we made while I was there. Always consider myself lucky to have been able to work on this, Dead Space, Spore, and Dragon Age: Origins. They were cooking back in those days.
This is one of my favourite games - I would still play it if it was backwards compatible. I remember finishing it and then went on to do all the mini missions on the countryside.
it was so long since i last played the game that i was thinking that it was lost media or a false memory. Thankfully i was able to find it again and i am really enjoying it
This was a Great Game ahead of its time while going hard into the times of action adventure games. Just a fun off beat game that deserved more eyes on it!
This game took a new perspective of WW2 by making you just a normal civilian, rebelling against Nazi controlled France. It was such a great game. Wish it would be remastered or just rereleased for consoles
This game deserves a faithful remake. Meaning, keep the original story, voice acting and dialogue, and music, but enhance the gameplay to modern controls and of course the graphics. Like the original Mafia game or the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta, Snake Eater. I’m playing through it right now off of Steam on my Steam Deck, and Love it.
This is, by far, one of my favorite games I played when I had the PS3. I didn't think much of it when I bought it. It was cheap and the setting was in World War II Paris. The art style looked good too so I took a chance on it. And I'm glad I did. I loved this game so much I let a friend borrow it after I finished the story. The atmosphere just brings you closer and makes you really feel you're part of the world that Sean's in. The sound design is good and the music really sets the tone. I do like the black and white feel like you're in a film noir type environment and once liberated you can feel life once again come back to that district/area. The controls at times are a little wonky but not horrible, it was easy to control nonetheless. I even like the small details they did such as if you go into the settings you have the option to remove the profanity and Sean replies to this and turning it off he does the same. It's a shame this game didn't get the recognition it deserves nor a sequel. It kind became like LA Noire with Team Bondi.
I clicked on this video with the belief it was gonna be based on the Alfred Hitchcock film with the same name about conspiracy and elites, yet was even more fortunate to learn it was actually a video game about a crazy Irish man (I’m Irish) as the main character.
Just played it few days ago and what was hitting me was the suprise it's such n old game but stands up really well and has it's own identity . Much better than I thought it would be
i just started playing the saboteur again. it was like reuniting with an old friend. i spent a prodigious amount of time on this game back in the ps3 days. funny how the controls felt totally normal then but having been blessed with ps5 controls they feel really janky now. still a lot of fun to jam a metric fuck ton of explosive up their arses though. hey does anyone else get 5g tower vibes when they look at the games watch towers looming in the distance? maybe thats why i hate those damn towers so much.
I absolutely love this game, played it when it came out in 2009, and replayed it many times since then. The story, the music, witty funny lines, nudity, it's very immersive. You forgot to mention that driving the cars isn't just to get around, it also serves a purpose of sabotage, where you can implant explosives while you drive, and exit at high speed before letting the car smash and explode on a target. How cool is that.
I only discovered this game by finding some gameplay of it on UA-cam a few years ago. I'm surprised I never knew it existed back in the day, especially since I was playing lots of forgotten GTA clones at the time, like the Godfather games and Scarface: The World is Yours.
Like Freedom Fighters this is an absolute classic game and one that has stood the test of time, in fact was way ahead of its time shame a sequal wasnt made.
Hello fizhy, thanks for this. I always thought this game wasn't recognised enough, I was surprised and excited to see you make a video on it. Have you played the prototype series (1&2), a revisit on that would be interesting.
Only ever played a bit of Prototype 1, but the Saboteur is a game I really liked and did play when I was younger so I felt it was worthy of a throwback for that reason.
Hey, Bloodlines is getting a sequel. From a different company. I'm not entirely sure the studio is up to the task, but it's getting a sequel. If THAT old thing is getting a sequel, then, you never know, the Saboteur may get one.
I will never forget that, when really hungry, Sean could eat a nun's arse through the convent gates... Ah, les good times! And then EA came and it all went tits up!

I liked this game a lot aside from one particularly annoying mission. Aside from that hiccup, it felt like what a closer to modern day assassin's creed could have beenlike.
Which mission? For me it was attempting to steal some car only for the nearest Nazi to hop into it and drive off, considering cars don't take damage easily and there's no driving shooting mechanics he just drove around the block over and over again and couldn't be stopped.
@@Fizhyi tried for soo long to like "stealth" that mission.. like i really wanted to get that car by being the one to get in it an drive away myself from where its parked without any enemies shooting the car.. the best i could do was a short like 10 second fire fight then drive away in the vehicle. It was like soo hard for me i tried definitely over 15 times. I made a short vid on my channel of it. Was playing on the fekn hard difficulty not sure if that changes the time limit.
I still have my PC copy of it! I've traded in tons of games in my time (when you could still trade in PC games) but I'll never give away my copy of Saboteur.
