  • Why is Water Coming In Through My Chimney Hatch/Cleanout?
    www.foundation...
Welcome back. One of the most prevalent calls that we get is water coming in the hatch, which is the actual clean-out for your chimney. What this is the metal door that is usually in your furnace room. It's always below the chimney, but it's usually in your utility room,
In most homes, you'll find a pipe coming across from your furnace, hot water tank or boiler that'll come across and there's a hatch at the base. When we get rain, we'll get customers that will call and say, Hey, our chimney is leaking. So fortunate for us, we do extensive waterproofing and most of our team is qualified to basement waterproof as well as do chimney repairs. Nine times out of 10 what we find is water getting in through the clean-out door. They think it's coming from the top. One way we can quantify this and figure out exactly where the water is coming in is a simple water hose test. What this does is we take a, we have the customer take a water hose and set it on the exterior of the chimney right on the outside wall and we had to turn it on full blast and let it run. Sometimes 15 sometimes 45 minutes. Customers say, why would we do this? This is simply ruling out rain and what this is going to tell us is if the water is coming up from where our feet are, where the dirt is and above or from the feet down and below. When it rains, everything gets wet. So what we do is we lay the hose on the ground, any of our clients can do this and when they call us they can say, we did the test that Jeremiah talked about. That'll tell us if the water's coming in from the feet below when you're running the hose, that water is finding its way in the ground.
We are dealing with the chimney issue at this point. We're dealing with a basement waterproofing issue. When homes are built. Sometimes this may take 30 to 40 minutes of constant water pouring down. Other times you'll be paying attention to it,30 to 40 minutes no water comes in. it happens like clockwork. I get about 10 - 15 minutes away from the estimate. They'll call me and they say, Jeremiah, it's leaking. I got up to leak. That means it takes water time to penetrate the clay to penetrate the different subsoils to actually get into the house. Very normal, so pay attention to it. The more data you can give us, the better product and the better project plan we can actually address.

Seen this video and have this exact problem...after dealing with a very rude receptionist that said we don’t fix that just because I brought up brick pavers she said we don’t do that. I said yes I know but I need chimney/foundation repair because I have exact problem in this video. Then she asked if I did water test. I said yes. Then she said well we don’t service your area just to get me off phone. I need to speak to this guy in video! I was looking forward to getting g this fixed since it’s the exact problem in video! Very disappointed!!

That’s too bad and very discouraging! Many times the ‘receptionists’ give the business a bad name. How about have the ‘Professional’ call and tell me that!

dig it up until you get to the bottom of the foundation and then brush off the foundation so you can locate the cracks
grind them open with an angle grinder then fill them with hydraulic cement
then encase the foundation a few times with hydraulic cement
Then use some type of waterproofing product, like tar or some of the new epoxies as an added barrier.
Water built the grand Canyon, I assure you if given enough time , water will find it's way inside.
what you need to do is limit the water saturating that area after the repair
