    I love the stories like this, about people helping our smallest animals, because they know that every life is important...to the Earth, and to the animal living it.
    I love how quickly the crabs left their plastic homes behind for the chance to live in a beautiful shell. That made it so clear that the plastic caps really are a last resort for them, and definitely not a preferred choice.

      Like you, I was floored by this video, i had no idea shells were this important to the crabs.. and that's the thing.. We as humans don't see the full picture of how every little thing in a particular ecosystem ties into the whole. So you're probably collecting rocks thinking that it's harmless, until you come across another video similar to this highlighting another species that depend on those rocks.
      Leave the rocks where they are at the beach. Leave nature as our Creator intended.

    Second time this week I've seen a story about hermit crabs being found living in plastic "shells".
    We really don't deserve this planet, and the last thing we need to be doing is making it too deep out into the stars to ruin that as well.
    Shout-out to this guy for doing what he can though ✊🏾

    • @Emerl18
      @Emerl18 10 місяців тому

      That sentiment is nice, but making it out into space would actually not only help us avoid destroying our planet at an even faster pace (because people would be diverted to living off-planet), space is also literally endless and devoid of other life forms. Any damage/trash we could ever inflict on anything out there would not even be a drop in the proverbial ocean, and there would be no harm to wildlife, because there isn't any.
      If you really care about the environment and planet, you should WANT humankind to develop widespread and commercially-available space travel/other-planet inhabitation.

      Some species do eventually discard the shells. The coconut crab is a species off hermit crab but they only use shells when they are young as adults grow way to big for shells and most animals likely won't try their luck with an adult crab.

    We saw this video a while back and when we went to Florida this year…my kids stopped begging me to buy them a hermit crab from those tourist traps. We got T-shirts….amd $50 worth of random shells suitable for crabs. We spent more than an hour in an area near a jetty where u find wild hermit crabs and hid the shells in places they could get to but tourists can’t or won’t. My daughter even wrote in sharpie on a few “don’t steal my home, I belong to a living creature”.
