  • Exploring An Abandoned Bowling Alley *With: Among The Unknown*. Enjoy a look a look around this vintage Bowling alley that closed in 2019 due to a chemical fire in the building next door. The building was up for auction/sale in 2018 but never sold. It's a shame how badly it deteriorated in just 3 years.
We were joined by our friend at Among The Unknown who gave us the tour of this giant building. To check out their video click the link here:

That’s just sad. I used to spend a lot of time there when I was a kid and my mom and grandma were in a league there. It was always a dump, but it had memories!

Wallie, this place was in the movie “Kingpin”. It was one of the earlier scenes, where they hustled the “priest” and they stuck Roy’s hand in the ball return.

It was originally built to house Beaver Valley Brewing Co., and Beaver Valley Bowl has occupied the space since 1950. Hollywood movies “Kingpin” and “Wonder Boys” also have been filmed there. Beaver Valley Brewing Co opened in 1904 and closed in 1910. It produced about 150,000 barrels a year.

I was down there one of the evenings hanging out at the Cue & Cushion Pool Hall when they were filming scenes for the movie "Kingpin"
There was at one time a brewery talking about moving some years ago and renovating the building but it never went thru.
Unfortunately I think it will see the wrecking ball just like the old Oriental Theatre did 😔😔

It looks like this bowling alley has been here for years, and years and years! It's a cool find, though! ❤😘👍 This brings back memories when I used to go to my local bowling alley! I was on a bowling league at the time, which was a few years ago! I have always loved to bowl! 😀 I am enjoying your video right now! Thank you so much!

You said not much was interesting in the bathroom but actually at 30:16 in the restroom that is a rare female urinal called the Sanistand, manufactured by American Standard in the 1960s through the early 70s. They were installed here and there but never caught on and most were removed in favor of regular toilets in women's restrooms. A few, such as that one, survive.

Great vid Wallie. Hate to see places like that (old bowling alleys, old roller skating rinks, public pools, etc.) go out of business and just fall apart. The roof and other parts of this place must have been really bad to begin with for it to go that bad that quick. Sad to see.

I did not realize the Bowling Alley had shut down. I remember the night fire down there happened. Everyone in a 5 mile radius was ordered to shelter in.
There was a chemical cloud in the area for awhile and it took over a day to put out the fire.
I used to hang out up at the Cue & Cushion pool hall above the Bowling Alley and was friends with the people that ran it.

I was scared this might be Arsenol Lanes in Pittsburgh for a second, the coolest bowling alley ever. I actually looked them up mid-video to make sure it wasn't, it would have broken my hart if it was (and sad to see a bowling alley in this condition). There's a 50s era bowling alley by where I live in upstate NY that closed about a month ago because of a fire, they're hoping to rebuild. I got a tour from the manager when he saw me filming the place and he was cool with it. Hopefully I can film the inside after some of the chemicals are cleaned out (I put my mask on as soon as I got there when I smelled the chemicals from outside, probably a good thing I had it).

Shame to see this place this way, I bowled many many games there. Their pro shop was the best in the area, I wonder if the case of drill spec cards still remains. They used to keep all the specs of a customers drilled ball on note cards in a dewi-decimal system type of cabinet, would love to get in there and see if mine and my dad's drill cards are still in there.

All I can say is, WOW! Your coverage of this place is a gem of an urban exploration like none other. Crazy thing is I was just home 2 months ago and didn't even know it had closed! I spent some time a this bowling alley in my youth, and I can tell you, t
he whole establishment was literally stuck in 1950. The decor, the fixtures- you harkened back to a bygone era when you stepped into this bowling alley. You just know you're in a relic of the past when you spot a sani-stand in a women's restroom 😮.
I can't honestly say I was fond of this place when my dad took me bowling here as a kid, however. The person who commented that it was a rat hole even when open and operating is exactly right. It was a dilapidated, decrepit and filthy place. I recall wondering how it continued to pass health inspection for so many years! I hate to speak negatively of a somewhere that's home to many a pastime of prior generations, but this place was pretty gross 🤢 and those steep stairs leading up to the lanes were a lawsuit waiting to happen! Take a spill on those steps and it'll be a bad day :((
Either way, I hope I get a chance to see it in person before the wrecking ball finds it!

It hurts to see an abandoned bowling center (I bowl and work in a center in CO)...
About 5:20 or a little after I spotted a black Johnny Petraglia LT-48 ball in a box; the original version was out in about 1982 or 1983 which I have one myself, then it came out again in the 2000’s (I think).
About the trophies-it’s nothing that unusual to see a lot of old trophies, as many times they are recycled for junior leagues (under age 21) or even other leagues. It’s cheaper to recycle them-all that may need to be changed is the figurine or more likely the plate that shows the achievement (First Place, High Averages, etc.).

    • @chasbari
      @chasbari Рік тому

I had the green plastic version.. a Tommy Hudson LT 48 that came out in 1976-77 as a companion to the rubber Johnny Petraglia LT 48 pictured here. They came out earlier than you thought. I rolled my first 300 with that Tommy Hudson LT 48 in 1977.

Kingpin was shot there ... But it means so much more than just a movie set place...Is there any way it can be saved because of that. Is there anyone that would fork out that kind of money . I have even thought of asking a few youtubers . To ask if they have any youtuber friends Get enough of them together get the attention of someone like mr beast . This building really needs to be saved I know it needs a lot of work.. But I also know what it was like in its prime.. It wasn't just a bowling alley it was a comedy club. It was a pool hall. It was a skating rink. Is and a bowling alley all at the same time. But it was also like a second home for folks that had no where else to go, Where even if you didn't have a penny to your name As long as you didn't cause trouble They would let you stay chat make friends Sometimes the original owner would even treat you to a bowling game. This Building needs to be saved not only for the history, But also for so many memories. I already tried going through famous people for the last couple years. Been ignored by each and everyone. That ever had anything to do with any movies there. Kingpin was not the only movie shot there. Can anyone help me come up with a game plan like the above suggestion? I know it's Not going to be cheap to fix. That's why I suggested such a huge name like mr beast. Can anyone Do anything please. Literally begging not for myself, but for many more, And even future generations. Save the rochester pabowling alley...

Part of the roof had been missing for years. The owners father is the one responsible for the chemical fire. Maintain your property or nature will take it back.

Lord, would I have loved to see Gear Shots do a review of those restrooms when this place was still open! I can hear him dooling out the rating: negative 275 old dirty toilet brushes out of a possible 10 liquid soap dispensers!

I just revisited. It's in significantly worse shape. The first floor had all the walls knocked down so everything is exposed.. The bowling alley has graffiti and smashed glass everywhere. I think the building still has power though
