    Sorry if you watched this already this morning, but I somehow managed to leave out Australian Gold from the video?!? So I took down the video, cut in AG and re-posted. Thanks to the very observant viewer who noticed it was missing!! Also, if anyone has any research/science based info. to share on a critical or minimal amount of zinc oxide to get adequate protection, please share a link (but not opinion based blog links please, just real science)! Have a great day! xo ~angi

      HotandFlashy Hi Angie, I've read that it's not the % of the inorganic filters, but the formulation. I'd have to search for it again, but I believe it was mentioned in the Kind of Stephen blog and/or the Lab Muffin Beauty Science blog... or their IG stories.. uh oh sorry I can't remember exactly, but it was pretty recent. 💓 they are both chemists that base their info on legit studies/papers, which I believe they cite, and their extensive knowledge of chemistry, etc..

      The Eerie Faerie Dr. Dray (a dermatologist with a channel here on YT) has said the same thing. % of the filter varies depending on the “vehicle” (lotion, cream, spray, etc).

      Yep, spray sunscreen is not something I use or recommend... you just can't get enough on there, and talk about cost prohibitive, if you actually put on enough you'd only get one use out of each can!!

    We finally can find the Australian gold here in Canada, love that one ! Now the FDA approved 16 ingredients in skin care that are banned in my country, France...so I tend to buy french brands l like Vichy sun, or Biotherm Sun, and I purchase them from France...I find it interesting that what is considered (safe) by the FDA isn't so in Europe...so I pay attention ! Not that I worry overly about ingredients, but it is worth knowing..always happy to watch you...!!

    Stay Sun Safe! Yes coach! Getting the Preem for daily errands! I use your Australian Gold body when doing yard labor. The powdery texture it leaves behind leaves a protective barrier for me far beyond sunscreen. While mowing the airborne dirt/gritty stuff that lands on you doesn't stick in this cream. So hard to stay focused on the task with leaf/sand debris on your skin/back of your neck. This AG leaves a matte powdery finish I am confident in the protection. From my experience, the barrier it provides is resistant to water and sweat and because of that...SOAP too! It does take a bit more effort to remove from the skin, which for me isn't a negative. It just further confirms I applied the protection well. : )
    PS. Oh, we live on acreage where poison ivy is prevalent-in the lessor manicured areas. Since using Angie's suggestion, I haven't had an attack. I attribute it to the matte physical barrier of the AGSS-I think it blocks the absorption of urushiol oil of the wicked plant. Of course I have no science to back that, but it truly has been a barrier of all air borne organic partials. ; )

    • @AngieHotandFlashy
      @AngieHotandFlashy  6 років тому +2

      A great recommendation for the AG Body sunscreen including things I hadn't even thought of!! I love how hard it is to get off too... makes me feel so secure that it's not going anywhere! Use oil to remove and it comes right off! xo ~angie

    • @CherylBerryl
      @CherylBerryl 6 років тому +1

      B. Walker
      If you want some internal extra protection against the poison ivy, Borion or Hyland' Homeopathic poison ivy/oak is a life saver! I'm SUPER sensitive to that INSIDIOUS EVIL weed(s). I also keep on hand (ALWAYS!) Jewel Weed soap & spray. It's AMAZING! I have never seen it in stores, but I order it online. I'm NEVER without it!
      FYI: if you were to plant the jewel weed plant wherever you have an abundance of poison ivy/oak, I've heard it will over take the poisoness plants. Also effective, but probably not easily done, (if you have very large areas of the poison ivy/oak), is covering it w/ something & weighing it down so it can't blow away. No sunlight on the ivy, will not allow photosynthesis & it will therefore not proliferate.

      Yep! I was going to say I use the Tatcha cleansing oil and the AG face sunscreen comes off my face with that but I have noticed in the shower it won't come off my arms easily -- I don't use oil cleansers on the shower for my body, but maybe I should. Need to find a cheaper one that the Tatcha for my arms, chest and other areas I put the AGSS on. :)

      Cheryl Mallon-Bond, what a thoughtful kind post to have written me! Thank You! YES YES YES, I too believe in Rhus Tox! Just as I was reading your words, out of the corner of my eye I can see the blue Boiron tube right here on my desk top! I had taken a liquid dose each fall when the plant went dormant for a decade. But that product has been out of stock for 2 years/3 summers. I used Angie's AG SS for all those summers with out, and it has to be that sunscreen! Two months ago found the Boiron label at Sprouts. Been popping those little pellets like chicklets! The lab tech at Boiron recommended to dose 5 pellets each day as long as I had exposure to the plant. Have emptied two tubes and now I just dose the day I mow. So in the last two months I have been protected with Rhus Tox, but spring all I had was sunscreen. Girl, it is that GOOD! : ) Thanks again for your thoughtful advice! It is truly sage advice. Be well my friend!

    Thanks Angie! I'm sure people have recommend her before but check out Dr Dray's channel. She's a dermatologist and extremely knowledgeable about sunscreen. She has explained how the spf number can be the same with different ingredients in one of her videos.

    I’m a redhead who has always worn gobs of sunscreen. I have tested 8 mineral sunscreens this summer. Bare Republic (Target’s brand) is the absolute WORST! I got a sunburn after 1 hour, it’s super hard to rub in, it leaves a terrible white cast and really settles into my arm wrinkles. I finished my search when I found the Australian Gold SPF 50. I also began using the Australian Gold 50 for the face after watching your video. Thank you!

    Agreed! Make P:rem is the best! I thought the claim that decreasing body heat was a bit much, until I noticed that my face was no longer sweating in a normal day after weeks of use, since that's something I struggled with all my life. And the coverage is great!.

So far it’s the only sunscreen that doesn’t break me out, a minor miracle. Thanks so much for doing the research, it has helped me so much. The BEST facial sunscreen ever is ELTA MD SPF 46 broad spectrum UVA/UVB which also helps reduce the appearance of blemishes, calms and protects acne prone skin, rosacea, hyperpigmentation. It is the very best sunscreen I have ever used & I have super sensitive skin & never had a problem! Purchase off Amazon for the best price too❤️❤️

      Perhaps that is the best one for you but as a man with dark hair, facial hair in particular, I found it left white residue all in my beard and eyebrows. I also found it peeled like crazy no matter what I did.
      Hada labo UV white gel is my favorite. The Asians just do sunscreen better, in my opinion.

    @the_eerie_faerie_tales 6 років тому +22

    Thanks for the review, Angie! 🤗
    Sorry everyone, I'm going to go on a bit of tangent here because I care - this comes from a place of love ok 💓 I'm all for using reef-safe sunscreen filters, but... it's a drop in the bucket - it still comes in a plastic bottle (not to mention all the other plastic products we use - wish we could switch to hemp instead and have easily accessible, proper disposal sites.)
    While there are problems with pollution, fertilizer run-off, over-fishing, etc, the main reason corals die is because the rapidly warming water causes an organism that lives in and protects the coral (which provides oxygen, waste filtration and energy) to leave, thus leaving the coral starving, dying, and exposed... Then it can't defend itself against viruses (like the herpes virus near the Great Barrier reef), UV radiation, heavy rain, (think super storms due to global warming) etc, which further exacerbate the issue.
    The time between these severe bleaching events have shrunk by a factor of five - normally they happen every 25-30 years, now they are happening every six years - they "can" come back to life, but it takes 10-15 years, or longer... so they *won't* recover if they don't get enough time in-between events. If we really want to save the reefs (along with the rest of the earth), we need to think about what we are really doing to prevent the anthropocene.
    We don't *each* have to do everything, but if we *all* collectively do the most/best we can, and think about how each choice we make impacts the only home we and all the flora and fauna have, then maybe we can turn this around, or at the very least, soften the blow. And I'm not just talking about we as individuals - corporations have a huge responsibility as well, as does our government with regards to regulations. Vote with your wallet! Write your representatives! I hope it's not too late...
    I know this was about spf (which I love), and though it seems most people care and want to do the right thing, I feel like the reality of what is happening to the reefs and why, isn't widely known. It's a bigger issue than we think.. 25% of the entire marine species live off corals... just think about the implications of that 😳 gives me chills 😢

      Monika Nan the best thing you can do is not eat meat, might as well cut out dairy too.. Factory farming is the biggest factor, then transportation. Just be mindful of your transpo - walk and bike or carpool or use public transit when possible, use biodiesel when possible. Watch your consumption of products.. plastics, other nonbiodegradable products and oil. Buy in bulk. Recycle, reuse, repurpose as much as possible (but watching consumption in the first place is the best way). Buy things with no or less packaging, or at least recyclable packaging. Get a compost bin from your local waste disposal company and start a garden, even if small. Grow hemp. Use energy efficient appliances. Don't turn the heat up too much or the AC down too low. Divest from companies that invest in oil and factory farming, vote with your wallet, support clean green energy, tell reps they shouldn't be frakking in national parks or on the newly exposed land where the ice has melted off (due to global warming), study climate science and talk with other people about it. Also, having two or less kids... that's just off the top of my head...

It solved my problem of white cast, solved my problem of white residue on my car's dark leather interior around the arm rests and door and gives a nice blur of skin imperfections. I was so excited to see this. I am obsessed with sunscreen and I have quite a few fabulous mineral sunscreens for my face and ones that are high zinc and wear so well under makeup. Have you tried the new Peter Thomas Roth Max Mineral spf 45? I'm loving this for my face. But I just havent found a great mineral sunscreen for the body. I was watching the 1st one you posted this morning and then it stopped right when I got to the best one. Lol I was like nooooooo come back! Glad you popped it back up. I'm going to try the last one and see how it looks. Thanks so much for sharing!

      OMG, sorry about that! I was wondering if it cut off while people were watching, so now I know! I just got the new PTR but haven't put it on yet... maybe today! xo ~angie

      Graceful Beauty two days wearing Peter Thomas Roth one on the beach where we live in Florida and I found within 1hr I got a lot of sun. I did not get wet during that time and wasnt even sweating. I had high expectations for it. Be careful wearing it in extreme sun.

    • @GracefulBeautyWithSheri
      @GracefulBeautyWithSheri 6 років тому +1

      oh no problem at all. Happy it popped back up. I didn't like the PTR at 1st, but now I'm really loving it. I even have oily skin and it works so well for me. I do like to put my hourglass mood light primer over it to mattify my tzone a little better but so far so good. Also Avene has a new mineral matte one. I loved the feel but my face was itchy all day after using it. Going to keep testing it to see if that's what made me itch. Have a wonderful day!

    • @GracefulBeautyWithSheri
      @GracefulBeautyWithSheri 6 років тому +1

      kbbels oh wow, that's good to know. I guess I wouldn't know if I could burned because I always wear hats and sunglasses and I reapply every couple hours when I'm outside but I also add my colorescience brush on over top and touch up constantly with that. Did you reapply? What a bummer. Thanks so much for sharing that info.

    • @monikanan9425
      @monikanan9425 6 років тому +2

      Even if you replay. It won't prolong your "allowed" time on the sun. If you can stay on sun like 15 minutes without getting red then even when re-applaying you have 15 Minuten x 15 (SPF 50 ) for a day and not more. Less then four Hours for a whole day, from sunrise to sunset. SPF 50 is UVB 50 BUT for UVA only 15 if not less. This is why PA Rating is extremly important, it is UVA rating. In a good SPF 50 product, one could get over SPF 20 for UVA protection.

    Great review! Thanks. The EltaMD SPF 50 mineral/chemical face & body sunscreen works perfect-no white cast and blends in very well.
    I also found another all mineral gem for my face and neck, CVS brand SPF 50. There are two like this but one is definitely better than the other (I do not recall which one). While I typically use SkinCeuticles Physical Fusion (my HG sunscreen), CVS brand is simply amazing. It leaves absolutely no white cast. If anyone is interested, let me know and I will post the exact one I am speaking of.

    Dear Angie. Thank you for taking time to review these sunscreens. I prefer mineral sunscreens. For me personally at the beach it is more important how well it stays on the skin than how it looks. At the beach everyone looks hot and sweaty anyway 😁 . Also if it is too expensive I would probably not apply that much. So I would buy a mid range one and apply a lot. For every day in summer I would invest in a more elegant looking one.

    I tried your fave Banana Boat but the smell is somewhat off-putting to me (I’m very sensitive to scents). I just tried the Cerave body and since I’m super fair, I had no visible white cast and while it smelled a tiny bit like glue when I was applying it, I can detect no smell whatsoever even with my nose right on my arm! The Avene is light, dries quickly and isn't' sticky on my hands and not creasing on my neck. It's been a few weeks of use and I'm pleased with it. It's zinc oxide 6% and titanium dioxide 4%

    Thanks Angie for your review.
    You've undoubtedly saved so many of us hours of research, & shopping & a TON of money! I know for me, I get so overwhelmed when there's so many choices reading labels, like what seems for forever in the stores, or online; then thinking I've picked the right one, only to be completely disappointed and wasted money that I didn't have to waste!
    I wonder why there aren't any manufacturers putting tints in sunscreens to avoid the awful white casting on skin ⁉️ I know it would probably be a little bit more money, but probably worth it. I think most people would pay the little bit extra.
    I was wondering what your opinion was in regards to adding some body lotion to the sunscreen to make it less thick and more easily applied? If you take the recommended amount from the tube of course, and then add the body lotion to it, I'm thinking that would just wind up being a lot easier as far as application goes, while adding an extra dose of moisturization.

      Agreed! Especially since you're supposed to use 2 teaspoons on each applied area. As a person with dark skin, sun protection is beginning to feel impossible since the white cast (mineral) is not presentable for work, and the chemical ones burn my eyes even if it's just applied on my body :(

    I’m really liking the Trader Joe’s face & body SPF 30 lotion. It is a chemical sunscreen but I have had no issues with burning or stinging and I mainly have used it on my face. Its light weight, a little greasy looking but doesn’t bother me much. Fragrance free. Water resistant up to 80min. And it’s 6oz for about $6.99

    Thank you so much for all the time you put in testing these products! Maybe it was because you were holding the non-mineral sunscreen arm next to the mineral sunscreen arm, but I swear, (except for the last sunscreen) all those sunscreens made your skin look kind of dead white! Like you, my facial skin is much more sensitive to products than the rest of my body. I believe that I will continue to use the mineral sunscreen on my fsce and neck, but stick with the chemical sunscreen for my body!!

    Consumers Reports does testing every year (this year included) to determine UVA and UVB Protection of chemical and mineral sunscreens and they also confirm whether the SPF listed is accurate. The breakdown of the ingredients, both chemical and mineral are listed. Mineral sunscreens do not make their listing of recommended sunscreens for protection. Protection is often fair or poor (at least of the ones tested).

    I'm using the Australian gold untinted version for my body and in order to minimize the white cast, I add the same amount of the tinted version and I mix them up. The White cast disappears completely, it just looks a little bit different from my natural skin (but I'm sure I'm the only one who notices that)
    I'm planning to buy the darkest shade in order to add less of it since using it for the body can add up pretty quickly
