Sometimes you may have to spend double money to save your respect. We should start multiple engine programs even if that means duplication.
Knowledge bank will grow, number experts will grow, multiple programs should be done, not started. Unless we become independent, they will create problems.

Fire the officials who lobbied for GE404 , they put all eggs in one basket, how foolish that is. They could have split contract 50/50 with other vendor.

IAF did the selection. Not HAL babus.
Right now best option is pick Russia as consultant for Kaveri... They will have much harder time saying no cos of current scenario. Invest a billion dollars a year in Kaveri, hire experienced people, preferably Indians or Desi Waystern companies and get the job done.
Atleast use Kaveri with as an alternative for GE LM2500.
It is overweight but that doesn't matter for a marine gas turbine engine. By this way we can test our engine's reliability and get some funds for Kaveri program from navy 😕
French TOT are expensive but if the government can choose pick the technology they needed and somehow made it work with kaveri then it's the best case scenario for now.

If this level of pro-activity was in present-day Indians' DNA, then we would've been atleast an Asian superpower a decade back.
In major defence ties ,it is very important that there should be some basic level of trust between the parties, The US could not be a trusted partner for this kind of major ties. India must explore and talk with Russia and France to develop its Kavery engine as a reliable working product. Otherwise India needs to reverse engineer the ge404 engine.

I agree with you: India should keep as many options open as feasible. That is the only way to achieve true strategic autonomy. It can't be achieved by keeping defence budget below 2% of GDP.
Aside: I was surprised to find that during Rajiv Gandhi's time as Prime Minister (I am not a fan of his), before the economic revolution brought about by Dr. Manmohan Singh, India's defence budget was over 4% of GDP.

Brother, i totally disagree from you, now we need to work for Kaveri--2, from basics and experience derived from Kaveri-2, In view of change of perception and approach keeping pace with digital era, of artificial intelligence ,nano technology, advance metalergy, computer designing,, use of supercomputer for compact space management. All these technological advancement has made the job easy and less time consuming for making lighter and smaller engine with higher thrust ratio, with maximum optimisation. Once model engine is ready, the same can be scaled up and down size for purpose.Such full scale work would be also helpful to modify and refine existing Kaver-1, Engine
Yes I agree that's a good approach, even if the French help comes at a cost.
And we should continue this development of the Kaveri engine even if the F404 supply issue gets sorted out.
Once we master the core engine tech, Kaveri variants can be developed for ships in place of the GE LM 2500.
We should also collaborate with Safran for alternate engines for Tejas Mk2 & AMCA/TEDBF, even if the F414 deal actually goes thru.
As you pointed out, GE faces genuine supply chain issues for the 404 even tho there do not seem to be any such for the F414...... strange.
But the very fact that you brought in the Pannu issue shows that even you realise that, with the US, there is always some other angle involved.
The US is sore at our support for Russia, our continued purchases from them, at our BRICS membership, & our independent foreign policy in general.
This Pannu vannu "narrative" is just another way to middle finger us & to try & force us to fall in line.

We should keep all options ready. Kaveri engine development, 110 kn engine from scratch and GE 414 assembly whichever fastest availablity.
First priority is GE 414 assembly. This will make surety of uninterrupted engine supply.
Parallely 110 kn engine and Kaveri engine.
So many will come and critise. But they have to understand increase in defence will come from our wallets only.
Do not forget that Defence minister Antony said they don't have enough funds for Rafale.
Govt can do by increasing percentage of defence budget. But it will reduced our other projects.
Best is increase GDP so automatically our defence budget will increase.
In 2019, same was discussed on Defence channels and we were against using M88's core as it would affect our aatmanirbhar concept. Now slowly, we are coming to acceptance phase.
Indian defence establishment can develop a jet engine. It will take around 7 years. I have a feeling that India already has such an engine.

We all are talking about defense export. But, in this sector NDA Govenment failed miserably. Examples 1. In last 11 years there is no improvement on our jet engines. 2. We don't have a killer drone like various Turkish ones. 3. AMCA project is more or less closed down. 4. We have genuine shortage of decent artilaries. 5. Arjun project is more or less closed down. 6. Tejas project is in limbo. No one knows what is happening ! 7. DEW is a new thrust area. We are 20 years behind China on that. And the gap is increasing. 8. We can't make a decent battle rifle. 9. It's pathetic, but true that even Iran is ahead of us in hypersonic race. 10. . You won't believe, most of the soldiers at forward posts do not have handheld night vision devices. Or a bullet proof jacket. 11. Brahmos 2 is in limbo. Pakistan is also having hypersonic missiles.

We have seen in the Russian Ukrainian war that drones are more useful and capable.
I think in the future the fighter plane will lose out to drones.

If government would have taken kaveri program seriously it would have been ready till now, no proper funding no testing facilities really hurt our kaveri program if we invest on kaveri program in war footing i am sure kaveri will surpass the performance of GF 404 and M88 both.
90-95 kN M88 is ideal for both future Tejas mk1a and Tejas mk2. The engines are smaller and lighter will fit both the jets. Only thing is the cost.
But Safran can get those done in 5 years which will coincide with the Tejas mk2 delivery and Tejas mk1a second batch orders.
India should drop US and go for France fully.

French will never give 100percent TOT. Even if they say they will transfer 90 percent knowledge, the 10 percent they will withhold will be the main technology India needs to make Kaveri and that’s why it’s still not ready

Honestly , it seems USA is deliberately delaying the engine ,there might be a supply chain issue but the way keep delaying the dates it seems something fishy , considering the past USA records we should look for alternatives.

Currently Kaveri engine generates 73KN of thrust with after burners. Improved metallugy can increase the thrust to 80KN. Is it feasible to develop twin engine fighter with 2 kaveri engines, each with 80KN thrust?
I don't know why is this government so reluctant on reviving the engine program. If we revive it today, then the result will be seen after at least 10-12 years.

One can say that current government of Canada for face saving and to distract the vision of voters, is using this technique, but BRICS summit is approaching, so high chances exist that it's a trial to pressurise India and to note that what will be the response of this big nation.

Dear Saurabh..since u have been certifying sinve last few episodes that nondelivery of 404 is actually a supply chain issue, my question is...has any one verified that how is that safran engines..GE 414 and other jet engines are able to maintain its supply and have not talked about issues with its supply chain . What are the materials in 404 that are.different from that are being used in other models of jet engines that have supply chain issue. is it only 404 meant for india is facing this issue...i have heard..supply to South kaorea and one anotjer country ..probably Turkey ..is going on uniterrupted
