  • Lately we've been receiving questions about the difference between Drive modes and eDrive in our PHEVs (Plug-In Electric Vehicles). This video goes through the questions to simplify the two different interfaces found in our PHEVs.

Hey. When ev mode is selected, is the gas engine turned off, or there is still rpm running? If it is off, will the ac still work? And for how long from fully charged. Thanks!

the Air Conditioning and all climate control functions are based on the electric battery of the car, so the engine completely shuts down. I'm a little confused by your 3rd question... was that how long to fully charge or how long can you go with a full charge? on a level 2 charger the PHEVs on average charge in 5 hours 0-100% the PHEVs are also limited to 3.8kW of charging where the BEVs can take in 7.7-11kW of level two power. not sure if that's where your question was going so please clarify if i didn't answer it for you.

How do you get the driving mode stay. I want ecopro/auto drive to appear on start up b/c that's the mode I use every time.

Depending on the car, there might be an option to select eco pro individual as default (it varies based on whether you have a Phev, MY, and if you have idrive8

Hi. I’ve got the 530e and it’s showing 90mpg average but it seems fixed on that even in electric mode. So how are bmw saying I couldn’t get 125 mpg .

EPA cycle plus the 530e's max regen during braking plus battery size, max possible on the USA's testing cycle the car could ever achieve is 90mpge

keep in mind the 530e's battery is only 12kWh, that's significantly less than the X5 45e at 24kWh, or any of the BEV (all electric) cars that start at 32kWh (that's the MINI Cooper SE that maxes out around 110miles) and 81kwh for the i4 or 111 for the iX.

Holy cannoli, just reread your question... haha so your MPG average is your gas consumption... that maxes out at 90 mpg just because that's the closes BMW deemed was necessary to show a theoretical infinite fuel economy. when in electric mode you are using zero gas, the same amount as if you were coasting or simply off throttle ( in all 3 instances the car is using zero gas, ergo maximum fuel economy) electric efficiency in turn is measured in BMWs as miles/kW, or if you're a tesla watts/mile (they be weird...)
