She really is! I named a trio of kittens from the same litter after the 3 vamps of the show. The usually aloof calico got the moniker of Janette, which turned out to fit so well, since she is the one to protect her siblings from the scary outdoor cats whose crime is daring to appear on the other side of the window. She also breaks up the fights between the other two, who are a strong willed muscular always hungry tuxedo, and a slightly neurotic slender rarely hungry tabby. If you have watched these reviews, you can guess which is which.
I do sorta like the idea that Nick and Lacroix have an on agian, off agian relationship. Lol. And its one of the reasons the other vamps don't take Nick very seriously when he goes to play hero cause he's had these "phases" before
I like the implication that ONLY an out of control bus will stop the Forever Knight-A-Thon. Like, Mildred getting killed in any other fasion WON'T, as their ghost haunts the channel, year in and year out, doing the Forever Knight-A-Thon until at last the grim task is complete and their soul may finally rest.
I mean there are only 3 seasons of the show anyway, so their ghost would only be haunting the channel for a year or two depending on when the bus decides to strike. I can think of grimmer tasks.
Any other means of death would cause Mildred's spirit to stick around and finish the series, but obviously the bus would spirit their soul away to a fantasy realm, thus precluding any ghostly shenanigans.
On the one hand, vampires having centuries of psychological issues they need to work out is a thing I want to talk about, but forget all that it's LaCroix!
Alternative: Nick doesn't wanna approach the ballerina because Lacroix will fuck it up somehow and he just wants to enjoy some hot lady without her ending up dead, a vampire, or dead and a vampire. Also: really enjoyed these! Hope you do them next year too.
I can’t believe we have to wait a year for the next season of Forever Knight! I could literally watch this low-key, casual recap series on a daily basis for the foreseeable future.
Must be weird to run into the reincarnations of people you killed, or the vampire versions of people you've killed, or their ghost, or LaCroix, who you thought you killed. You'd think more people from your past would just be dead after 800 years (especially when you explicitly killed a lot of them,) but Nick can't shake these fuckers. It's like a constant high school reunion.
You deserved a subscriber bump for this series. I can see the effort here, and my eyes always flipped to the same 68K. Anyway, I'm a fan. Here's to more wet puppets in 2024!
I will miss the Forever Knight-a-thon, this has been a fun month because of them. That said, I understand if it was quite the daunting task to cover 22 episodes pretty much daily, given all that was required, so I'm just going to hope that we do get to cover season 2 at some point. Particularly as it's fun to see Canadian actors pop up (I think Cynthia Dale was in the previous episode as the immortal woman with special youthness potion), especially LaCroix's.

Agreed on the first part, but busses are not really a big concern here. Their drivers get so much practice and are pretty great at avoiding collision whenever possible. From my experience as a pedestrian, the drivers you gotta be concerned about are (sort of) "driving" those hideous huge high trucks/suvs with nonexistent visibility, and sedans/suvs with the blinding blue and red lights all over. Have almost been run over by one of each, and they are the ones most likely to not even register me as a person until I stare right at the driver.
What a great series, both the one I watched a bunch of in the 90s and apparently have retained zero memories of, and the only-stoppable by bus Forever Knight-A-Thon. Thanks Mildred!
The Forever-Knight-A-Thon has been an absolute joy. FK was my introduction to fandom, and I find I have an appreciation for LaCroix and the Cousines now that I did not have when I was an uptight dweeb in high school. You've made revisiting an old friend a lot of fun. Thank you for this gift, and I hope you are able/willing to cover the other two seasons sometime in the future. Even if you space it out to a more human (heh!) pace.
Yay! I now know watched a summary of every episode of the first season of Canadian police procedural, Forever Knight, in which a vampire detective takes a bite out of crime! Time to rewatch every episode of this series so I know what the fuck any of that was.

Forever Knight was so ahead of its time. It should be in a museum and played all day as an early example of what was to become television’s obsession with shows about young people with supernatural powers. Forever Knight is one of the few of those shows that weren’t annoying.

I truly love how vampires look like angry cats in this show. Had a friend obsessed with it and yes our best boy LeCroix. Never got around to watching it. Not an easy show to come by in America these days. I do however associate it with the fact that there was a smutty tie-in novel at some point…..And I just googled about it and the book had nothing to do with LaCroix or Forever Knight but was part of a trilogy by P.N. Elrod that he kinda assisted in. Played muse? Whatever, his face is on the cover giving big LaCroix vibes so I think my friend was just understandably confused or making it part of her extended head canon for the show.
Didn't comment on any of the others, but I've loved this series youve done. More of this, or other old horror-adjacent shows would be great! Keep it up!

It's the plot of Oscar Wilde's A Picture of Dorian Gray (except she's an actress in that book, and he doesn't directly kill her so much as reject her and then she kills herself but it's got that same pining over girl who is 'too pure' thing happening)
5:41 maybe he realized killing someone pure and someone “deserving” actually felt the same, so any difference was really only in his head. It was functionally the first single-blind test he’d had.

I was a big Forever Knight fan when I was a kid. I still enjoy it. One thing that I'm not a fan of watching it back, though, are the forced flashbacks. Highlander suffered from this problem as well. Honestly, a good flashback episode could be fun! And when you're just on once a week, probably no one is going to catch the continuity gaffs. But in this day and age of marathons and binging, it's easy to pull these shows apart. It's obvious there must not have been much of a show bible for the various writers to read, because the events of Nick's life are all over the place as far as characterization. But it's still a fun show and I have good memories of it. If one WERE going to try to examine LaCroix's motivations, I think he is just trying to get Nick to quit going back and forth with his morals and just embrace being a vampire. Perhaps LaCroix didn't vet Nick well before he brought him across, but any vampire that holds too close to human tradition isn't going to be long for the world. Even if they make it to 500. Vampires have their own codes and goofing around in the human world will keep you from focusing on the things you should be doing. Take LaCroix. For all of his posturing and evil-doing, when you come right down to it, he's not the worst vampire around. Most of his worst behavior comes from trying to get Nick to come out of the cocoon. I'll bring up the Anne Rice chronicles again, because it's pretty obvious this show was influenced by it quite a bit. Louis is ostensibly the hero. But his highs and lows lead him to being a far more dangerous vampire than Lestat. Lestat just kind of goes along with being a vampire. He does what he has to do and has a bit of fun with it. But, unless you're just reading Louis' accounts, Lestat isn't particularly cruel or callous unless he's lost his temper with Louis for bemoaning being a vampire again. This is just how I see Nick and LaCroix is at his worst when he's trying to get Nick to quit whining and just be a vampire. The rest of the time....He just seems to amuse himself with whatever he's into at the moment. Season 2 has been my favorite because I felt like having LaCroix as a character in the modern age added more drama and intensity to the show. It really hits it's stride in Season 2 and goes from being one of those Action Friday shows to being it's own thing. Season 3....I was not as much of a fan of. I won't drop spoilers for anyone that hasn't seen it, but the addition of so many side characters just watered the show down too much. Other than some really standout episodes at the end of the series, Season 3 drifted back to a half-baked version of Season 2 in my opinion. Those last few episodes, though....Whew! Definitely made me wish there had been a Season 4.

WHAT'S THIS? ANOTHER episode of Scaredy Cats, featuring Forever Knight? I'm so confused! And tickled pink! But mostly confused! It seems like there's been an episode of Scaredy Cats every day this month, give or take a couple days where someone might have taken some time off to figure out how to talk about an especially confusing episode. I feel like I've asked this in almost episode this month, but why is this happening? Why hasn't anyone explained to me why this is happening? IS THE WORLD SO DEVOID OF LIGHT? IS HUMANITY SO CRUEL? SOMEONE EXPLAIN THIS MAGIC TO ME, I BEG OF YOU!
I don't know if you'd want to commit to any other show for this kind of horror recap marathon, BUT, should you think of doing so, I have to recommend Prodigal Son, a show that told you in the trailer "What if when Clarice went to ask for help from Dr. Lecter, she was also related to him and worried about turning into a serial killer?" But in the actual show said "What if hunting serial killers was a dark comedy? What if our main character was socially awkward and weird and cut people's hands off to save them?" And it rules! First episode: Internal Affairs person: "You offended every cop from here to Kansas!" Bright: "That's like, what, 3 good cops?" Based. Bright rules.

WHAT'S THIS? ANOTHER episode of Scaredy Cats, featuring Forever Knight? I'm so confused! And tickled pink! But mostly confused! It seems like there's been an episode of Scaredy Cats every day this month, give or take a couple days where someone might have taken some time off to figure out how to talk about an especially confusing episode.
I feel like I've asked this in almost episode this month, but why is this happening? Why hasn't anyone explained to me why this is happening? IS THE WORLD SO DEVOID OF LIGHT? IS HUMANITY SO CRUEL? SOMEONE EXPLAIN THIS MAGIC TO ME, I BEG OF YOU!
If Nick dealt with cops like he does other criminals, he could have been a real hero. Ah LaCroix, Nick didn't know about his plot armor!
In about a year before CreepyNightPerson uses that last bit with added audio noise in a video about that upcoming terrible bus accident.
I don't know if you'd want to commit to any other show for this kind of horror recap marathon, BUT, should you think of doing so, I have to recommend Prodigal Son, a show that told you in the trailer "What if when Clarice went to ask for help from Dr. Lecter, she was also related to him and worried about turning into a serial killer?" But in the actual show said "What if hunting serial killers was a dark comedy? What if our main character was socially awkward and weird and cut people's hands off to save them?" And it rules!
First episode:
Internal Affairs person: "You offended every cop from here to Kansas!"
Bright: "That's like, what, 3 good cops?"
