He was talking about $500 bills. They were still in circulation back then. Now the $500 and $1000 bills are rare and very collectible and are worth way more than face value so you don’t see them anymore in circulation. They stopped printing them in 1934. He’s saying the bookie would claim to only have those large bills so people would make another bet and lose.
He has a legit Coke heart, his valves work harder than the first dude who ran the marathon.
That's mild for him. There's one where he tells the story of the time he kidnapped a hooker. That one is insane.
He has crazy stories. I really like the one from when he used to beat up and rob gay men and he got beat up 😂

My mom said something similar. She heard about me getting bullied when I was like 11 and said "Listen to me, son. You gotta put your foot down and let them know you're not an easy target" Which was the best advice because a football tackle and a nasty elbow later, they backed off and didn't pick on me again

20:30 We see 100 dollar bills all the time, however there are a lot of people that make counterfeits of larger bills such as 50s and 100s. That is why they inspected your money to see if it was real. You'll see a lot of cashiers in America hold money up to the light because real bills are water marked. They also use pens where the ink will change colors to tell you if the bill is real or fake.
And often we just don’t want to deal with them especially for small purchases because of the inconvenience. I.e. we know other people don’t want to deal with $100’s lol
Your parents mirror mine. My dad grew up in an irish family in 1940 with a blue collar father, my mom in a german farming family. Dad never drank or hit us b/c of his dad, while my MOM would lose it every once in a while and literally break wooden spoons over our heads. My brother and I look back on it laughing.
Mom broke a wooden spoon over my backside once and I started laughing, she was none too impressed. 🤣

There used to be $500 dollar bills in the US. My aunt asked if I ever seen one and showed me. But lots of people had money back then and the economy was good. So I only saw one once when I was a kid.

The US did print $500 bills at one time, and they are still legal tender, although they are also worth more than face value since they were discontinued.

We actually do have $500 bills in the states. They are mostly used bank to bank but occasionally you will see them
America used to have 500, 1000, and 10,000 dollar bills. More recently they went to 100 being the highest bill. He was actually referring to a $500.00 bill.

Americans actually see a TON of hundred dollar bills. The reason that every cashier checks them is because 100's and 50's are the most commonly counterfeited bills

Late but 5 100 dollar bills. In the 70's they weren't overly common and lots of places couldn't break them right away so they became a pain to have.

The 500 dollar bit I’m pretty sure he means the dude that is supposed to pay you, pays you half. Says he can pay you the other half next week, then boom. you lost and gotta pay him. Either way he had your money(or a part of it) he would just lie that he only has Half 🤷🏽♂️
I went to a Christian Brothers boy’s boarding school in Queensland, early 80s. There was never word of any “untoward activity” between the Brothers and the kids. The Brothers saved my life, quite literally (bad bullying situation, they stepped up and kicked the prick out).
Corporal punishment was still a thing, though. The Brothers had the “Jack,” a foot-long flat piece of rubber about an inch thick. You got that on your hand, you knew all about it for hours after. I got it just once.
The Rector (principal) had his own Jack that (legend has it) was made from strips of leather sewn together, with hacksaw blades between to keep it stiff.
Still, a dozen of those would have been a walk in the park compared to the old man and the stepmother.

I will say he's right about Italians though thank God for them my school that I went to it wasn't necessarily a bad school but you had kids that got in fights one of us would pull a knife every now and then one day I got stabbed twice once in the abdomen and once in the shoulder because they were idiots and didn't know where to stab me next thing I know to Italian kids that I knew in school come out with baseball bats and it's like the freaking scene Goodfellas where they're trying to get the money out of the guy

I did the same thing in America with the hundreds.
You gotta remember all there money looks alike. So their staff is extra careful to make sure they are taking in a hundred before giving you change

They're looking for fake bills. We can tell our bills apart at a glance, same as you with your monopoly money. The patterns are different.
