Thanks for all you do as farmers. You are a few farmers with UA-cam that I watch, and you have taught me so much about this life. I wish I was financially able to retire to cover my family's need and come work with you all for free during harvest.
When I was a kid, we all took turns staying with grandma and grandpa’s. From my grandma’s kitchen window, she could keep an eye on grandpa. If she saw him stop, jump down, she’d call one us to run a jar of extra sweet lemonade out to grandpa. When grandpa got his jar, he knew it was time to sit down enjoy his drink, then he could finish the work. Then we’d run back with any messages. Usually, it was give grandma a kiss from grandpa.
Love seeing wildlife walking around your yard. Here it was going so well and bam, you are broke and stopped. It still gets me the way you three pull together and get stuff fixed. All three of you work well off the other. Give that puppy a hug for me.
As always, Daddy Cornstar is charming, Cole is sharp as a tack, but today Cooper is the "Most Valuable Player". What a great and complementary set of skills you guys have. I've been around the block a few times but I'm amazed that I still learn something new with every episode of "Cole The Cornstar" that I watch. Thanks!
I don’t know how you guys deal with broken equipment! You’d think that a piece of equipment as expensive as your tractors and harvesters being maintained like you do that it would last a harvesting season. Poor fellow who doesn’t have sons or daughters to help keep the farm going all with their different talents. You Corn-stars are amazing! All the best for the rest of harvest season. I’ll pray for no more breakages, no more rocks etc!🙏💕🙏
I've said in a previous video that the farmers don't seem to make money. Others like equipment makers and sellers, seed companies and banks make money off of them.
They maintain their vehicles well yet still this ish happens. They lost all those beans. It may look like a little but when you add up the little spills that will occur etc that's money being lost. UGH!!
@@petranilla14 i agree with what you're saying howerver im sure they went and shoveled the beans up. As a farmer myself would never leave that much to rot. Yes you cant get it all but you try and grab what you can.

I would say this harvest has been going well for you guys. Breakdowns always happens whether or not its new or old. The weather has been treating you guys nicely and your yield has been fairly positive. I'm interested to find out if the extra chemical sprays and "extra precautions" are going to pay dividends this year because it's going to be a challenge with today's economy. Then again harvest this year can be different than next year. Farming life, what can you do?
It's really refreshing to see a family that works so well together. I'm so sorry for all the breakdowns. You all are so great about keeping you equipment in excellent condition and clean. Hope things go better as you finish the fields!
Amazing to see the wildlife so close, imagine what that will be like for your children, what a wonderful place to grow up!
I am looking forward to an analysis of how much all the recent "improvements" have worked out as to yield. I know the storms last year threw a kink into the numbers and made it difficult to judge, but I'm hoping this year will give a more positive outlook as to how the investments are working out.

I know farmers running machinery built in the 1980-90's that get through the harvest without a break down...

And ymif you've personally owned the machine for its while life you know what's going to break and you had it apart so many times yourself you know how everything works so you can diagnose it faster
Our neighbour runs an old combine, 35yrs older than ours and as far as I know he gets though harvest with less breakdowns than us but he also harvests 200ac and we harvwst 7000 so there's that to consider as well
Our grain cart tractor is an older new Holland with 8k hrs
Iv had that bloody thing apart so many times I know exactly where to bash the dash to rattle the engine harness under it to shake the dodgy plug on that harness to turn off the alarm that's trying to tell me the engine has failed lol

Claas are very popular on this side of the Atlantic, and a very good combine (I have a strong dislike of Axial Flows, I had one, and it wasn't suited to our damper UK conditions!)
I think they were sold as Challengers in the USA at one time.
Starting to see a bit more claas over here. Defiantly more fendt lately.

Growing up in ND we grew wheat. At that time we swathed the wheat and used pick up attachments to feed the combine. Anyway … broken cycle sections on the swather were a pain because ours were riveted on the cycle bar vs bolted like they are now. Good memories though. Congrats on the strong crop. Look forward to hearing about the program vs non program. Great vids!

As far as the "Red vs. Green", I think the green combine is better, but I really like our tennant's red planter... never thought those words would ever come out of my mouth!
Cole, if you think that you are having a really bad time with your Case combine, you need to watch Erin Holbert's latest video about their JD combine. Her father takes painfully meticulously great care of theirs, even Erin waxes it all of the time, he even has a JD dealership mechanic to entirely go through theirs every year telling them what needs to be maintained and replaced (he tags it all with blue masking tape and a note, every single part) and they spend a whole lot of money doing that to make sure that it never breaks down, yet it still does. Well, Erin in her latest video reports that their JD is broken down with engine problems and now the engine has to be removed at the dealership to find it. So, they are having to rent another combine for their soybeans and corn harvests this year. Apparently all combines of all makes have a lot of moving parts that are prone to breakage, even when meticulously maintained taken care of with kid gloves.

Cole, DS and Cooper, it’s amazing watching you work together as a team to get the combine diagnosed, fixed and back out in the field - very smooth, efficient and harmonious. I admire how hard you work and don’t complain versus some of the drama queen behavior that is so common these days.
Daddy Cornstar, the phrase "Boogity, Boogity, Boogity, let's go racing, boys!" was a phrase that Darrell Waltrip would use at the start of every NASCAR race that he announced. But he got it from Country Star Ray Stevens' album "Boogity Boogity" which contained the hit "The Streak". Some folks think the song says "Boogity Boogity", but it actually says "Look at that, Look at that".
I’ve had the same issue on my combine. If i shut the separator off with a full hopper grain will run down the loading auger in the grain tank and then proceed to fill the clean grain elevator until it’s full. Typically it burns the belt off, but once I bent the bottom auger. I have a green combine but it’s the same concept.

When you buy second hand you normally get proublems as lot time the previous owner had troubles to and replaced them .even new you can get trouble had a case tractor new kept blowing the seal on the pto shaft .

It’s amazing to see the number of moving parts on a combine and they all have to work in synch. They definitely have more patience than I would or they are doing a lot of editing.
I sure agree with you and I'm guessing the alternative to patience with the machinery is to imagine 100 years ago when all of this work would require horse and hands ... probably enough hands to populate Western Iowa. Patience is sure enough a Core Competency in 2022.
Thats why they're called a combine
Because originally you'd first cut the crop. Then cart it in. Then a separate machine would thresh it, and a another machine again sorts the grain from the chaff
It combines many operations into one
And yea it have some very weird issues if things don't get along

It was breaking the coupling that drives the seives every 20hrs of operation, had a few experts.look at it and none could figure it out, it would run fine then just violently destroy isn't self for no reason
They're a christian family, so I guess they will not swear a lot.

Breakdown like that could be avoided if a dealer mechanic would be involved in the repairs and maintenance. Coop and Ryan are no doubt excellent mechanics. But it's those small details that snowball into something big if they aren't done correctly. It is expensive to have dealers inspect and repair those machines, but I feel it is worth it for a couple reasons. 1, the dealer should stand behind their work, so if something does happen and it is the fault of the dealer, your covered. 2, resale value of a machine is typically better if you have all the records of everything that was done to it by the dealer, or a list of things prepared by the dealer of things that may need repaired.

Looks like there was a oops when you put it together last winter. I don't think any brand machine works long when you put it together incorrectly. Lesson learned, hopefully that's the last of your issues.
BTW Cole, in case you didn't already know it, but deer prefer/love freshly sprouted grass and wheat. It's very tender and sweet to them. We always put out winter wheat as a green manure/cover crop to draw them in.

Besides hitting rocks do you think that the sickles might be torqued down too tight and therefore putting undue stress(metal fatigue) on them?

That’s sucks! We’ve ran a 2008 8010 case ih with no major problems for several years. Most of the Case “flagship” combines are pretty bulletproof especially the newer ones. everything breaks down eventually tho
Hey Cole..... I remember you guys having a similar issue last harvest, If I am correct Cooper had to straighten that bracket for the rod that bent last time too. I wonder if all of the normal vibrations are causing that bracket to fatigue again?, I would maybe suggest that after Cooper & DC pushed it back in place with the help of the floor jack that maybe Cooper should add a piece of flat stock across the top and weld it in for extra rigidity?.... Just a thought from a faithful follower. And as always thanks for bringing us along on your journeys...... btw nice seeing Ryan today too!
you need a couple kiddie pools they are handy from catching oil leaks to catching the grain spills when you open things up
Ivers farms in Illinois bought 2 new 9250 Case IH machines and one has ran perfectly all season so far and the other one had a U joint fly aprt that drives the rotor knock a hole in the engine oil pan and only had about 4 hrs on it

Claas Lexion deserves your attention. Ziegler Cat has more technicians and fewer machines. Caterpillar dealers invented in the field service trucks. We rarely wait for long on a mechanic to
get to our farm. If you farm store grain the Lexion is the way to go. It will not pre grind your corn or beans and they are at much less likely to become damaged in farm storage.
We have 20 years of experiencing the difference a Lexion makes in grain quality growing food grade crops.

Sound to me like it was a mechanic mistake when you put the new elevator chain in and not the machines falt next time read your repair manual and put the shims and spacers in correctly the first time or take it to a better repair shop that knows what there doing .
Seems with all the maintenance you do nothing should break down. All your equipment is so well cared for. They way you all stay so positive is an inspiration.
It was reassembled wrong when they replaced it.

I miss that being on my grandparents farm having the deer come up in the yard had a doe that would eayeat of your hand. We put a blaze orange vest on her so no one shoot her. She lived for like 9 or 10 years if I remember.

new chain this year, when they stretch and get loaded up the empty side buckles up and jambs as it goes over the top and the strain is released. I suspect thats the problem, big combine long elevators more stretch.

We were at a friends farm today in mid Michigan and they’re combine is broke down after running over a skunk - broke a rod only available Ohio so someone was driving the 4 hours to get that part - crazy snow may be coming

The best cleaning combine is the Gleaner. I have ran Masseys and internationals. We finally bought a Gleaner after a few years of a custom cutter cut me grain. It was so clean and left hardly anything out the back. This year we grew seed wheat and when we took it to the mill they couldn’t believe how clean it was. We also took safflower to the and a again it was the cleanest they had seen. Try a Gleaner

I feel for you guys. My 2 blue tractors died this year, the new red tractor has spent 40% of its time broken this year and the new green tractor is on order. We’ll see soon. I was told they paint them red so they can be seen better when broken down on the side of the road. It’s a safety feature. 😮

Maybe the previous owner got sick of fixing on it. And that's why the farmer traded it in Sometimes no matter what the color of the machine. It just breaks too much. And time is money!!!

Could it be just friction between housing and the elevator chain, so it takes so much force, it breaks it just by brute-forcing it apart?
I mean there is nothing breaking it, it just cant handle the feed speed of extra wide head.
So change the sproket ratio to higher fpm on the elevator chain.
I'm not sure, but it might look like your harvester is constant on filling the hopper and other yt-farmers have their flicking the grain like seeding by hand.
