Woodturning asmr - A Yew Natural Edge Bowl (no mid roll ads)

- In this video I turn a piece of Yew into a natural edge bowl. I was quite surprised at the final shape of the bowl !! the log seemed quite round at first, I wasn't expecting it to have such a wild shape, which made it even more tricky to turn considering it was an end grain turning. Thats the beauty of turning Yew, you never really know what you're going to get ... I finished it with Danish oil ..

I love it when a turner is able to highlight the beauty in a piece like you did in this.
Absolutely beautiful.
It looks like a maple leaf from like 6 different angles 😂 i fricken love it
Spot on!!
That is a beautiful
piece!! Oh and God bless you!! Twice!!😅
Me too
I'm seeing the side profile of a moose
Love the final shape…displays the beauty of the wood perfectly . Good job you stepped away when sneezing 😄
I love how the tree rings make such a cool pattern on the outside and inside of the bowl!!!
Awesome job!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️
Hi Andy. The Yew has a pretty grain to it, yes? Interesting how you got rid of negative space by drilling the well into the base so that you did not have to carve out all that wood when turning the backside of the bowl. Ingenious. It made the turn much easier in the end. It's a pretty piece. With the allotted space for the "Andy Medallion" of course !!
Yew turned it into a piece of awesomeness...❤️❤️❤️ Hope all is well, I've missed your vids.
Thankyou
What I love about your work, when you stop for just the briefest of moments your piece is already incredible. The rest of the video is you taking that already incredible work of art and turning it into a masterpiece. By the way: Bless you on that sneeze!!!
Awesome bowl. It almost looks like something from the 70's.
Thanks 👍
A man of few words, isn't he Sue? 😂
Hi Andy the yew wood is amazing I like the grain and markings and natural edge. The way you turned the bowl was brilliant you really are a masterwoodturner. The end result was magnificent and unique I love the shape. Thank you for a fabulous video and your time for making the bowl and showing us what you did. Amanda xxxx
I can only imagine how wonderful your shop smells! 😊. It boggles my brain that you just do all these from instinct. All the pieces I’ve seen are just gorgeous. That wood is beautiful.
An absolutely stunning creation, Andy. 👍 Yew never looked this good before. 🙃
Turning out all that end grain takes lots of patience...well done Andy.
I love the movement of this piece. It could sit alone on a coffee table as a piece of art.
Nice work my fellow wood turner and happy turning ☺️. Beautiful piece.
As always Andy brightening our day with a satisfying video
😊
Thankyou 👍
Your natural edge pieces are my favourites, nothing fancy like resin or goblets with knots in the stream, just the wood itself. This one somewhat reminds me of the sort of beautiful fungus that grows on rotting wood - it's a very organic shape with a sort of inevitability. Yew is never boring.
Oh wow. That is a beautiful work of art! 👏🏻❤️👏🏻❤️👏🏻❤️👏🏻❤️
Thank you so much!
Thats gorgeous!! The shape, the textures and live edge. Perfect!
Bless you Andy and all who sail in you 🤧
That sneeze was funny because it took me by surprise. I'm so used too not hearing any sound on your videos except the sounds of machinery and woodturning. Love the shape of the piece.
As always, beautiful work! ❤
Yew & you are great, the shape looks a little like a maple leaf 🍁 it's excellent 😊
Another stunning beautiful bowl love your videos thank you
As usual, absolutely stunning!
I love that final shape, great job!
Very nicely done and thanks for the inspiration as always!
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing again!
❤What a stunning creation! I seriously gasped when I saw the finished insides!❤
It’s beautiful. Thanks Andy.
Absolutely fabulous!
God, I was looking away when you sneezed, and the sudden stopping of the scraping sounds combined with what sounded like you yelling out almost made me crap myself. Turned back to the screen expecting to see blood.
So, uh, yeah: Bless You.
Well done Andy. A wonderful piece of wood and a great job.
It is a bit wacky, but also beautiful and natural. It almost looks like a maple leaf! ❤
Beautiful piece, thanks for sharing
Beautiful piece!!
fabulously beautiful & so unique!!!
I'm new enough to watching wood turning (I don't do any) that I usually can't predict how a live edge piece will turn out. This was very different than I expected but so nice!
Absolutely beautiful bowl 👍👍
That is a very pleasing piece, thank you for sharing.
@ 7:55 Bless You...Bless You! 🤧
Really cool and beautiful end result, as always.
Amazing piece Andy.
Nice work Andy, hollowing end grain is always an interesting experience 😀
another inspirational tutorial for a newer turner here. we have the pacific yew out here that looks very close to the yew you turned there. It is very durable specie, lack of shade and disregard saving when logging has diminished many larger yew's.
What a beautiful bowl. You outdid yourself!!
Very nice mate - lovely result!
It’s turned out beautiful.
Hey Andy. An exceptionally beautiful piece of wood. Yew is just as beautiful as Olive, a little different but very exciting in grain and growth. You got the best out of this gem and without using resin, my respect. A very good job. Greetings from Northern Germany.
Beautiful!
Beautiful piece
Andy it's not until you show our videos in real time that we get to see your true talent and freakin patients!!! Love your work as always!!!
Thanks 👍
Oh WOW Andy this is an exceptional piece, Well done!

Beautiful workmanship, one of my favorites
Thank you very much!
Another piece of artisan craftsmanship Andy

Thank you!
Yew is such pretty wood. I’m a little surprised that o don’t see it turned end grain more often. Beautiful piece. Love the organic form it took n
beautiful!
Again Andy and God team up for another beautiful creation!
Thanks 👍
Nice bowl Andy, wonderful grain.👍
Absolutely stunning! I don't know how you can see what's in each piece of wood you work on, but however you do it, keep it up! As ever you have maintained your incredible standard of artwork. I'm beginning to think of it more like sculpture than wood turning. Your work is definitely worth a gallery display. Not just saying it, I mean it.
I've been up a couple of hours (for some reason my brain has recently decided that a quarter to 5 is a perfectly reasonable time to wake up! I disagree!), and for obvious reasons I put UA-cam on to pass the time. In the middle of another video, the notification popped up for this video (only a handful of my many subs have that turned on!). I didn't get to see it for long before it disappeared into the background, but I could have sworn, what with that deep red, you were working on a rare steak! 🤣
And bless you! 🤧😉
The best fruit bowl to adorn an oak table.... Congratulations!
Thanks
Very nice Andy!
Gesundheit! Amazing work as always!!!
SO beautiful!!
Thank you!!
That is a very cool piece!!! Nicely done..
Thank you!
Beautiful.
Just sipping a cold one, as I watched this appear.
Nice piece!
Beautiful 😍
That wood is beautiful 😍.
Great piece Andy. For whatever reasons I found myself thinking of some of the stuff Martin Woodhead does but I think that's a compliment to both of you!
what an interesting piece it tuned into! ❤🏴
Good work from top reminds me of scene from T2 where the bad Terminator gets it head blown apart. Something exploding. Keep up good work.
Thanks ... LOL I know what you mean !!!
Excellent 👍🏽😊
Sei fortunato a fare un lavoro così creativo. Bravo, ottimo oggetto.
Omg, this has got to be my favorite piece to date. Also I know everyone has probably said this but bless you.😅
Lol . Thankyou
It is stunning Andy!! And an excellent job turning it!!
I enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Many thanks!
@@AndyPhillipWoodturning You're welcome Andy!!!
Really beautiful piece, Andy! Really amazing work! 😃
You know, sometimes I like to do experiments... Make something, like a picture with some picture editor, whatever... Without any plan and see what happens. 😊
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Nice looking bowl
Absolutely beautiful. ~Kevin
You had some awesome pcs, but I think the best so far.
Because of one of your pieces "Yew Beauty", I went and bought basically an entire Yew tree ... inspired by your piece I then turned a bowl along the same lines ... what an absolutely stunning wood to work with 😁
With regards your latest piece, where did that shape come from, I'd never have expected that ... I can only surmise it's because you started off on a sloped surface (will need to try that) ... an absolutely beautiful piece 👍
