- Tim’s version of Carry You (from the TV Series, Upright) which closed the 2020 BAFTAs.
(Lyrics below)
CARRY YOU
If they would let me trade
I’d give a year for half a day
Just curled up on the sofa with you
We’d wander down to Cottesloe
Eat fish and chips in the final glow
I’d hold my breath for I forgive you
Sometimes I feel you with me in the dark
And your face is in the faces
Of the strangers walking by me in the park
And reflected in your eyes
Is all my love and all my lies
Is all my promise and my pride
Is all my fear and all my fight
Is all my dread and my denial
So though we cannot be together I know
That I will carry you wherever I go
I will carry you
Lord knows I will carry you
I will carry you
And reflected in your eyes
Is all my love and all my lies
Is all my promise and my pride
Is all my fear and all my fight
Is all my dread and my denial
So though we cannot be together I know
That I will carry you wherever I go
I will carry you
Lord knows I will carry you
I will carry you

You know he's serious when he brushes his hair and puts shoes on.
Well looking like an unemployed caveman isn't a look if everyone's doing it.
And of COURSE his shoes are Styling
I literally thought the same thing!!!
Not to mention omitting the "girly mascara" and eyeliner 😂
You mean... he is looking for a job?
Glad he found his brooding potential.

Yippee!
Tim can have a dark side too.
if pain's what you want in a man, pain he can do...
But does it appeal to the teenage market?
Every time I see him he looks more and more like a Norse God and honestly I'm digging that shit

When funny people get serious, prepare to be sliced to ribbons.
Yes.
so true!
Tim has always been serious. In his own words 'The comedy was the diversion, not the other way around'.
Absolutely. This breaks my heart.
Case in point: Bo Burnham Inside.
To my lovely wife who left me last year after just two months together. Miss her so much and I'll be carrying her with me in my heart forever. She died in a car accident.
@backtothefuture1066 She could be dead?
@backtothefuture1066 I'm sorry, I didn't explain myself properly, she died from the result of a car accident.
I got through the song okay, but your comment tore me up. I'm so, so very sorry.
I am so sorry. Much love to you.
Oh Tom. I am truly sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine your grief. I can only hope that each day gets a little bit easier
Xoxo
“And your face is in the faces of the strangers walking by me in the park” is one of the most beautiful lines ever written
I adore this man and everything he does.
When the funny gives way to pure heart I cry every time.
Agreed. Glad it wasn’t just me thinking that!
Hahahahaha!!! What a waste of time by people like Shakespeare, Milton and Wordsworth. My goodness! You're such a simple-minded individual, aren't you?

Just saw this episode of Upright. Great song, even stronger in the context of the story. Minchin is so underrated.
Minchin is NOT underrated. He certainly is much less known than he should be, but for those that do know of his body of work recognize his brilliance.
For any Minchin fans who've not seen Upright, do yourselves a Molly and see it.
Unbelievably brilliant.
I finished watching it yesterday and my feelings about it? Wow!
It is a brilliant series...
Where do I watch this from the Netherlands?? Have been looking for it forever

I'm sorry for the loss you've suffered
You're not alone mate. Keep your head up. They'll always be with you.
I am so so sorry. I too know loss well. Try to remember to take care of yourself, the way they might remind you to.. sending a hug.
Hey man, hope you're getting on alright. Like Tim said, you'll always carry them with you, they'll always be with you ❤
@@geninio97 at this point in time the ability to even form a complete sentence without having to stop to remember what i was talking about escapes me.
I love his comedy stuff but his recent stuff has been pretty damn good too
I love his comedy stuff too. I honestly think he's lost what made him so unique in just doing lyrical/poetry stuff recently, but it's still great.
I believe he started writing serious music, found he was good at comedy, became a successful comedian and then branched back out (writing at least 2 musicals and now this).
Not funny tho?
@@samcooke343 Tim never wanted to be a comedian. That was always a means to an end to get to where he is now. And with the success of Matilda he never needs to work another day of his life for money (there's shit loads of money in a musical) so he can do what he wants!
I know the word "Genius" gets tossed around a lot. But!! That's the only word that comes to mind when I think of Tim. Beautiful and heartbreaking song... 💕
Indeed. He is my favorite artist. I mean, he composes, plays, sings and jokes all in the highest of levels, and at the same time.
And acts too... goddammit, Tim.
My beautiful husband, my Seamus, gone these 2.5 years. This song is for you, my love, wherever you are in the universe. I Will Carry You.
Thinking of you
Only to be reunited again
Because, in the end my friend we will all be together again
It seems that Tim's switched from satire to lyric poetry. And he's a real deal in this field as well!
The talent of using words can be transferred ton any genre.
please listen to white wine in the sun. he's been doing this for a while.
@@Souless1231 I already have =) It was great but only one of its kind. And now two serious songs almost in a row, so it seems to be a trend... and I welcome it!

Been a fan for a long time but not heard this til now …….. this is Tim at his deepest and finest
I saw him sing this live last year dedicated to his friend and tour manager who passed, my god it was so emotional!!
Lauren taylor his tour manager was lovely. At the Cardiff orchestra gig in 2010 he collected my dvd and the handmade Christmas card to Tim before the show, and Tim must have opened it then, as the autograph was to the three names in the card. I’m so sad to hear he passed.
@@chriggle1 Greg Weaver was amazing and so incredibly talented. He was one of a kind.
After watching Upright I adore this man - and then I go and find out hes a songwriter producer and comedian as well!! SO much talent ( and he looks so good!! )
Yes, he is a gorgeous man ❤️
1am, unable to sleep, Ran across this song... 50 year old man in tears as my wife sleeps next to me. Cherish those who you love while you can. ❤️😢
That's so true - Tim's song really makes you think about life and every time I sing his song, it really brings me to reality x
I'm in Brisbane & my daughter's in Melbourne. From the first time I heard this beautiful song, it made me think of her & cry. The anguish , pain & longing always finds its way out as tears run down my face thinking of her during this terrible time referred to as the new normal. Now, under Victorias circumstances, it's even more poignant to me. I haven't seen her since February & I miss her so much, it makes my heart & soul ache to see her beautiful face again. Thank you Tim for helping me vent many tears whenever I listen to, "Carry You," & for writing & singing this song that's grown to mean so much to me. My daughter may be far away, but despite the distance, "even though we cannot be together,'" I'll hold her close inside my heart she has a large patch of where I will continue to"'carry her wherever I go. "😢💔 💓
There is no deeper love than the love I so strongly feel for both my daughter & my son. 💔💙

Tim is brilliant. White Wine In The Sun is probably my favourite Christmas song
YES!!!! Happy Christmas eve!!! Take a minute to listen to White Wine in The Sun!!
White Wine in The Sun is our favorite Christmas song in my household. My kids are 15 and 16 and I introduced them to Tim Minchin when they were very little. But my all time favorite performance is the one where he plays Hallelujah in the pub and one guy who I believed worked there just happened to record the performance with his phone. Since then Tim Minchin has covered Hallelujah many times but none captured the raw emotion of the song from that pub night imo. I can't remember the woman's name he sang with and they had the lyrics written on napkins and everyone in the small pub had obviously been having a great evening.
Damn, somebody's aging really well
And reflected in your eyes
Is all my love and all my lies
Is all my promise and my pride
Is all my fear and all my fight
Is all my dread and my denial
I had heard this during "Upright" ( which was the first time I'd ever seen or heard about the Man) and the tune meant nothing and then I heard it on a random play list one night just after my Mother passed away and as above verse played I was instantly on my knees screaming her name through the sobs..a broken man
True story.
Thank you Tim Michen for writing a song that made me finally weep openly with no attempt to stop the flow as I curled on the kitchen floor.
I feel your pain my friend. 💪💪
❤
I don't really know what is it for him, but I try to not to miss his new things from 2008 and sometimes it's a reason to stay calm, loving and happy. Great comedy, great music, great feelings.
The groundhog day soundtrack contains some of the same feels, not him singing but him writing

@@chappy7962 I hear pieces of "Hope" in this song
I'm not 100% what this is referring to. But, I've lost two children pre-birth in the last year.... this song makes me cry so hard inside. I'm lucky to have a healthy 4 year old, and he is my world. If I could physically carry the children I've lost I would be the most grateful man on the the planet, but it wasn't meant to be... I'll carry their souls with me until the day I die.
Well...now I’m heading into work and I’m crying like a baby but I don’t care. This song is beautiful all on its own, but with the lights and piano and the look on Tim’s face as he’s performing this song is now sublime. Glad you uploaded it here for all to hear after it being butchered on TV 💖💖
It was butchered on TV?
Now i need to know what happened
Michael Berthelsen I didn’t watch it myself as I am in Canada, but apparently they put the credits over his performance and then cut it off before the song was over 😡😡
Nice to hear some serious music. Like not just comedy.
Specules Gorgoth honestly though, I agree. I wouldn’t have thought I could love serious Tim as much as comedy Tim but the songs he’s been bringing out of late have proven that theory completely wrong. So much for not having much depth 😋
Bless him he looks like he's about to start crying a couple times! Im already crying, Such a beautiful song! You're the best Tim!
I saw him in concert last night and there was a couple of times he did look very close to tears. I couldn't imagine doing that every night in front of an audience. An incredibly talented, strong, and yet humble man.
Just when I thought I couldn't adore him any more than I do..............tada. Love ya Tim....beautiful man. Heart n soul. xoxo
All of Tim Minch’s non funny songs make me so emotional. This was beautiful.
What a terribly underrated musician. That was beautiful.
Absolutely in love with these emotionally fuelled masterpieces. Had me in tears once at the gig last year and this is just gorgeous as well. Stunning
What was it at the gig?
To be able to so obviously FEEL what you're singing, and maintain the composure and clarity of voice like he does is a really powerful skill
Man has an amazing voice, cant do any wrong
I saw Tim play this live last night as a closing to his concert, and it was completely unexpected. It brought back so many memories of my brother who sadly passed away unexpectedly 8 years ago at the age of 30; and I was sat in the auditorium, tears pouring down my face. Such a beautiful song, and so universal; everyone has lost someone, and this song perfectly summarises the weight of grief; the person is gone, but not your memory of them - In some way, those people are immortal; because they continue living in your mind, along with all your emotions. I miss my brother sometimes, but I know he is here within me.
Where did you see him?! It wasn't the Leeds show was it?!
@@tomcreasey1 I saw him live at the Guildhall Portsmouth :)
Your music never gets old mate. Keep it up. Thankyou god is a banger.
As much as I absolutely love Tim’s comedy, I’m so glad his amazing talents are being put into some serious songs. So multi-talented!!
Man, this guy write the most snarky, funny stuff and then turn around and write something so beautifully sincere and heartfelt. Tim Minchin is one of my musical heroes.
Tim Minchin with the most heart wrenching and gorgeous love song ever.
This new Tim Minchin is every bit as wonderful as comedy Tim.
Nice Tim, You got some Shoes! Awesome work mate.
Somehow I missed this song and Tim’s performance at the BAFTA’s. I absolutely adore it, so moving and poignant and beautifully sung by Tim. It will stay with me forever having been sent it by someone who has recently come back into my life after many decades, we are thousands of miles apart and so want to be together but have the pain of waiting until Covid allows us to travel again. The power of song and music and love X
Lost both my grandparents this year (only ever had two grandparents). This song enabled me to put into words what I couldn't at the time. People who don't understand his work still hit me with "Oh, Tim Minchin? You mean the crazy guy with no shoes?"
They're missing out on some of the most beautiful and sublime music to come out of the 21st Century IMO.
Thanks Tim for the support and music :) :)
I love this song, it's become my favourite sad song.
The first thing that really hit me before the chorus even comes in is that rest in: "I hold my breath for... I forgive you." The timing is _perfect_ .
A beautiful song that brings back the memories of time spent with the people who have touched our lives and continue to do so. Just Beautiful.
The most beautiful, beautiful song. EVERYONE WATCH ‘UPRIGHT’ if you can. Tom Minchin hasn’t received a fraction of the recognition that he deserves (in my humble opinion). For anyone who has lost someone close this is it.
How do you not bust out crying while playing this song
Halfway into my first discovery of this sing, and I’m already in tears.
I lost my wife 3 years ago to cancer. This song brought me to tears for the first time in months.
Just split with the love of my life after 14 years together. Cant help cry my eyes out at this. Truly beautiful and very very sad indeed.
This song will mean so much to so many in this damn 2020.

I'm real sorry for you. I hope you can smile and laugh again soon!
God I blooming love Tim Minchin
Tim. In my younger, carefree days you made my sides hurt with laughter at your wit. My envy of your talent, palpable. I grew older and realised my own talents. I let go of envy and only enjoyed the inspiration. Now I am older, broken hearted and still enjoy the inspiration you bring into my life. It is different now, bittersweet but uplifting all the same. This song in particular applies to me but I am the one that needs forgiveness. Thank you. Joel.
To cry for what might have been is a little easier with this music alongside. Thank you.
Beautiful song from a beautiful soul🥰
Love this song. Thanks Tim. He's performance of it in the "Upright" was very strong. I love his "comedy" songs for ideas he puts in them. Those jokes are just a clever way of reaching people. 'Storm' for instance is brilliant. Apart from lyrics his music is just awesome by itself. He's a really smart and talented guy. Hope to watch him perform live one day.
I'm crying as I'm listening to this. I miss my mom so much. Tim, thank you for sharing your talent with all of us. We are so fortunate.
Deep song, Tim! Hugs from Brazil! We love you too on this side of the world 😊😊😊
As much as I enjoy all the great arrangements Tim creates, my favourite versions tend to be just Tim and a piano. There's something about the simplicity of it that connects.
This entire new album is immensely beautiful, top to bottom. Five different songs on it have moved me to tears, and I don't think any were out of place. Separation. Fidelity. Absence. Romance. Purpose. Tim grabs an emotional concept and strips it down bare, and the story he tells about it is so visceral and real, you can't help but feel it with him. One of my all time favorite songwriters.
Rock on, Tim
Can you tell me the name of the album, please?

Then later on, just before Xmas, my dear dear rabbit, one of a pair of adopted brothers, became so ill without explanation my vet and I didn’t even need to say the dreaded words when I brought him in for the 4th time in a week. My vet sedated him and left me alone. I sang this song to Diego. A few moments later the infamous ‘green dream’ of vet medicine was injected into a vein in his. ear. Without a twitch, his heart stopped. May all of us with chronic incurable illnesses be afforded the same dignity and love surrounding us when we’ve had enough. I’m severely incurably ill myself. Singing this song to my Diego as he took his last, peaceful breathes makes me even more determined that this one day be how we treat humans like me. That we can die, when we are done, with a medicine that affords us certainty and as little suffering as possible, surrounded by whoever we hold most dear- my mum and my animals I see as children. With this song playing for all of us . Thank you Tim xx
What a sad song, my heart strings were pulled. Thank you
People say Western Australia is too isolated to be concerned about. Funny how so much talent grows in that isolation. 👍🏻❤️
He takes my breath away!
This is my favourite version of the song. The album version is nice and the version in Upright is great, but something about there being no production added on top here, no other singers just Tim and the piano makes it so much more emotive to me.
Upright is it makes you cry
His expression when he plays those final notes is something I can only Describe as being in a Memory of something that made him Cry Sorrowfully but now has no more left that can fall because Life, His Life, has HAD TO Carry On.
Or I could be completely Wrong.
Tim, you probably don't read these, but... I can see the Light in your art and I am so glad and grateful that you continue to share your gift. Your new music is transformative and healing. Love and Bright Light 💖
Been listening to him since I was 14 and he's still producing gold. Absolute gold. Thank you.
A rare sight, another post... I love your music Tim
This is sublime. Just you and a piano. Perfection. Thank you.
I completely agree! He's so much more powerful with just the piano - not the same with the band behind him x
I watched the whole bloody BAFTA’s to see this and then they only played about 30seconds of it so when I saw this on here I was so happy!! This song is one of my favourites, and although I like the lady singing it too, you can’t beat having Tim do it himself!🥰

Oh Tim, I love this. I love your beautiful, caring, romantic, gorgeous, sometimes tortured heart. And I love everything about your musical talents and lyrical genius. Thank you. Big love to ya ❤❤❤❤

And then, of course, I watched canvas bags to take the edge off and ease the pain a bit.
Saw this performed live in Liverpool during Tim's 'Back' tour. Since then, I've been obsessed. So glad to have a copy of this song with Tim singing without needing to fast forward to the end of an episode of Upright.
