Thank you! I needed this. I stopped working at 62, it wasn’t by choice but I decided to make the best of it. I’m so at peace with my new lifestyle of retirement. This busy world we live in keeps trying to pull me back in but I’m fighting it will all I got. We decided to Downsize our home and our children are all grown. In the mornings I sit on my back porch and listen to nature….i don’t ever remember birds sounding so beautiful! Slowing down also gives me more time to speak with God. It’s the small things that matter to me now.
Same here, I didn't want to retire but it was forced on me. I even offered to take a 50% pay cut to keep my job. But now that I am retired I realize I wish I had done it sooner. I guess it had to be forced on me.
It's not even about age anymore. The time has come for all humans of all ages to reckon with the negative consequences of consumerism. Don't let your possessions possess you.
I've been focusing on a slower lifestyle since age 60, I'm 66 now. It has been a challenge at times, not to fall back into consumerism and the modern way of life. All of my friends and family still live in a world of wanting more and more. It is never enough. Like a drug, the more they buy the more they want. Yes, I do feel like an outcast at times, but the rewards are worth it. This video is spot on for me. Great advice indeed!!
@@jscott4431 I’ve joined this movement as well ! I’ve often wondered why humans want so much more than they need? And at one time I was following the lead--recently I’ve went ballistic via decluttering in various & sundry ways! It feels good! Haa! And it’s easier to keep my home tidy!
I can imagine how challenging it must be to feel like an outcast at times, but your dedication to a more mindful way of living is inspiring. The rewards, as you said, are truly worth it. Keep staying true to your path
In my mid 50's and I've learned that the pleasures in life, the TRUE pleasures, come in the little things. We have been conditioned to want stuff, that stuff will make us happy. Happiness originates from within and 12 cars or houses will not fill that void. Take a walk in nature, look up at the stars, read a good book, listen to good music, take your time, exercise, meditate, feed the squirrels, shut off the news, help an elderly woman carry her packages, smile at someone as they pass you...and be happy.
I totally agree to you detailed comment.I am in my mid fifty and been made redundant from the rat race of work but I adjusted and evolved with change.Yes ,the economics of this capitalist society is challenging but frugality and simple living is the key to our survival and well bring
My phone is 5 years old and still works fine. My car is 22 years old and is simple and inexpensive to repair and run. I know capitalism is the best economic system (by far, no contest), but I am capitalism's worst nightmare because I only buy what I need, not what I want.
@@polygloticious Study history. All other systems have failed miserably. The only one that gives anyone with any level of drive a chance at their best possible life is Capitalism. We do not have pure Capitalism in the West. We have some bastardized version of it with a lot of socialism mixed in. If you are willing to work your ass off and you end up striking it rich, Capitalism allowed that to happen. If you are a socialist and you work your ass off and strike it rich, you must give away - you are forced to share what you earned with people who didn't earn it or work for it. With Capitalism, if you want to give away your hard earned money, you can but that is your choice, not the systems. Socialism destroys human ingenuity and drive. Capitalism promotes, supports and rewards it. Understand the difference?
I just turned 69, i've recovered from last year's heart attack and last week was divorced from my wife who left me a week after I had my heart event. It's been a crazy 15 months but I now have a new freedom, and peace that I'm loving. Over the years I converted an old tin garage in my backyard into a Tuscan style cottage with a cottage garden with a lemon tree and an apple tree. Theres a hammock swinging between some antique turned verandah posts and lots of flowers and now vegetables growing in the sunshine within view of old rocking chairs and even an old two seater couch. I've made my transformed backyard into my personal 'slow life' mission. I collect cuttings from flower beds and friends and plant seeds then enjoy the happiness as my backyard glows with new growth and colours everywhere. I share this area with special friends, drinks and meals shared at the table that I made from a big wine barrel sitting on mis matched stools with colourful fabrics and crockery. So many eclectic things that I've collected through the years are now finding their place in this calming area. Music from Spotify played through hidden bluetooth speakers increase to positive atmosphere of this area. I'm scaling up my efforts to scale down my possessions. I want to reduce my car collection and use the funds to travel more whilst I still have excellent health. I retreat to my backyard that seems a world away from the suburb that is the other side of my fence extensions, and I feel like I'm in another world. A new life at peace can be in your own backyard, take time to smell the roses!

Every piece of advice is a million dollars worth it. I am 64 now and have simplified my possessions and needs to a great extent so much so that I feel that 70% of my possessions were of little value or no value. I have slowed down the pace of my life resulting in more time for little wonders that nature offers. Felt connected with the contents of this video. Thanks for sharing valuable thoughts. ❤
Thank you sir for your valuable advices.I am 68.It will immensely benefit me by slowing my life now and consuming less.I find joy in reflecting on my life's journey and finding peace now in simplicity.🌷🙏
1... I am in 53 ,and I started thinking about minimalism and slow living, let me search little more and I am sure I will start without delaying much... thank you for your valuable video...
I totally believe and agree with these tips. I am 74. Taken early retirement . Spending time meaningfully and enjoying with nature travel and grandchildren. So far no health issues. Thank you
Indeed 50 should be the start of the slowing down years.... mentally...... figuring out what and who are valuable to you...letting go of the old...and bringing in the new...a time to focus more on yourself and well being and your soul...a time to start the process of slowing down cause you can't just come to a screeching halt...slowing down takes time and many adjustments...be blessed
Thank you so much. I am close to 70; still working. Not for the sake of padding up portfolio, but to keep my professional attachments. But, now I have a clarity.
Ty so much. I am 75 years old and have been downsizing for years. I am retired and enjoy my time alone. I read a lot and work on my sewing. I don't need nor want anymore stuff
All good advice but reconnecting or strengthening our relationship with God is the most important for me. At the end, the enjoyment aspect becomes a vague memory, but God is now.
Great stuff here. I quit consuming and am in the process of working thru the things that really light me up: family; a few close friends; my faith in God; health and exercise; volunteering to help those who need it; etc. I work part time, but notice work was NOT on my list. It's important but no longer drives the bus of my life.
In my seaside area are numerous cafes, and I frequent one in particular numerous times each week, arriving before 8 am. I've made friends with a small table of similar age people. I don't really like coffee but have one to be social with the others. We have fun banter around the table, the staff are great and they know exactly what and how we like our coffees, its become like a social family gathering, and it only costs $4.50 each time i go but its a great start to each day. We all care about each other, its an emotion booster. I also volunteer with disabled people by taking them sailing in little boats down at the local yacht club, it's a definite feel good experience for all involved. The friendship between the volunteers is great and something we all look forward to each week. Maybe try these suggestions, best wishes, Robi

I turned 60 and looked around and realized I had too many things I would never get to use anymore. I realized time is running out and letting go of things actually feels good.
Moved to the caribbean 1 year ago. Dont have a house but have a home . Dont have a car, but I get around. Also got a montain and ocean view from here, eating home grown coconut, banana, papaya, avocado, mango all the lovely food here. I got 2 flip flops and not 20 pairs of shoes like most woman in some places, but happier than most people❤❤❤❤
At the age of 67…I have already embraced this concept of living…I started slowing my life down in my mid 50’s….buying things, having gadgets, fashion, hair upkeep for the sake of looking younger etc…When I settled into this way of being…a wonderful sense of calm came over my life, I no longer felt competitive. I started spending time in nature, enjoying my pets and my home life with my husband and our small little homestead….I thank God every day for the insight to let so many things that seemed important fade from my mind. And for the importance of love, comfort, frugal living to expand my years with joy and peace.. Over these past years we have experienced the loss of dearly beloved family members and best friends…with knowledge of the rhythm of life, and the cycle that takes and gives, there is always something to be grateful for. ❤️🙏🏼
As I've reached 70 I've realised that less is more I no longer crave the new fashions or kitchen robots etc..This video sums up how I'm feeling now .consumerism is suffocating

I have been a minimalist since i lived on my first sailboat, back when i was 34 years old. I live in a large home at 71, but iam still a minimalist , a different sailboat now.
@@WiseAdvice93 this January my life took a 360 degree turn when I watched my mother fall n stop breathing for a few minutes. The present seemed all alive and the only thing which was important. I realised how much of time we had lost ruminating over the past and projecting a future which may never well come to pass. We were carrying burdens too heavy and unnecessary to carry. Still trying to find a way out. And yes, we had gathered enough unnecessary things and people who ultimately were there for themselves. Big time downsizing is necessary. So hopeful seeing your video.
In our 40s we simlified our accounts, bills, shopping (budget and track your spending) decluttered and organised our life. When it came to retiring/redundancy it made it sooo much easier to make the jump. You really wont regret it, we wish we had done it earlier.
ha, 5 coffee makers! totally required for retirement. Great job. Up till I retired I was buying so much stuff that I didn't need. Most of my time is spent fixing and maintaining stuff. Wish i had learned this before I retired.
I am 2 to 3 years out from retirement I have found my dream property that I will be renovating to meet my needs with privacy quiet room for my dog and I and even some small gardening... I live about 10 mi out from a small town that can meet all of my basic needs. This is a huge leap of faith but I'm ready to take it
Thank you so much. I am working on this! It is the shift from buying whenever I see something I "need" that is still an area to work on. But I see I am making progress! Thank you!
Unfortunately, our capitalism is clouded by greed at all levels. You have managed to provide the perfect video which to me describes minimalism for seniors.
I’m 51 and burnt tf out. Job stress and single parenthood is taking a toll as I’m just exhausted to the point of severe procrastination. It’s a different day & age. Self care is a good start. Just want to sleep. Maybe it’s just a dream.
I am 53 and over the last year or so I have finally realized I am playing the game all wrong. At least I am financially well and can now focus more on experiences instead of things. Time goes by so fast. You are working your hardest and then all the sudden you're middle aged and what your are aiming for has all changed. I will retire in 2 years. I am using this time to mentally prepare myself for the shift. My new goal is going to be taking care of my health and enjoying the everyday routines. I plan to travel a little while I still can. But when you are in your 50s it really is a wake up call. The stakes are high.
Most people watching this . Will i am sure notice that time moves faster as we get older . It's now so important to relish that time we have left as it quickly goes by .
Every year. In the fall I purge my home of unnecessary items. I have a wonderful sale in my barn. I tell stories about all the things I am selling.Hoping that someone can use them themselves. Many items were loved and useful at one time but need to move on. It's great to look around and see what you have in your home is useful and loved and all has a purpose. Daily. I pick something up and put it aside in a box.Knowing it's going to go on the next sale because time has come for it to move on.
Another view is that life is a balance between energy and time. When we are young, we are full of energy but lack the time to realize all it's value and have to prioritize our endeavors within the time frame. As we age, time is still the same but we lack energy and require to ration it over time to value the time. The presenter either has conventional values or has not been able his birth culture. I had a hard time swimming against the current but it had to be done for my fulfillment. It helped that I realized that money was merely a token for trading. If you can get your fulfillment directly, don't waste time and energy getting money to buy fulfillment later. I didn't strive for the highest possible income so that I could indulge in a hobby through out my early life. I didn't stress myself to make money from it but enjoyed the physical labor it involved.

1... I am in 53 ,and I started thinking about minimalism and slow living, let me search little more and I am sure I will start without delaying much... thank you for your valuable video...
Best of luck!

All good advice but reconnecting or strengthening our relationship with God is the most important for me. At the end, the enjoyment aspect becomes a vague memory, but God is now.
Your sharing is wonderful, thank you very much
Well said! Thank you for sharing your powerful insight.❤
Great stuff here. I quit consuming and am in the process of working thru the things that really light me up: family; a few close friends; my faith in God; health and exercise; volunteering to help those who need it; etc. I work part time, but notice work was NOT on my list. It's important but no longer drives the bus of my life.
I wish you would have addressed the difficulties of loneliness and boredom, which are very real for many people. Perhaps another video topic?
Your sharing is wonderful, thank you very much
In my seaside area are numerous cafes, and I frequent one in particular numerous times each week, arriving before 8 am.
This creator is just copying other youtube creator content virtually word for word. By asking him to produce further content he'll just copy other people's hard work which is sad 😢
did this at 50, not by my choice but it literally gave me a life.

I'll be 60 in November...slowing down slowly....but....surely!!!😊
Your sharing is wonderful, thank you very much
ha, 5 coffee makers! totally required for retirement. Great job. Up till I retired I was buying so much stuff that I didn't need. Most of my time is spent fixing and maintaining stuff. Wish i had learned this before I retired.

All I buy now is new flannel pjs every year, and comfy sweats and hoodies. I live in a very cold place, which I love! That’s all!
That sounds so cozy! Nothing beats comfy clothes and staying warm in the cold. Enjoy every moment of it! ❄️😊

Im only 33 and I find myself in this mental space already
Yes. I have already started following slow and simple life style.
Keep it up
Your sharing is wonderful, thank you very much
Another view is that life is a balance between energy and time.
Your sharing is wonderful, thank you very much
