Interested in a career in marketing ? This video, I'm going to be covering everything you need to know - different marketing specialties ( digital marketing vs field marketing ), salary, industries, how to get a marketing job, and more. After graduating from college in 2019, I started working in marketing for Amazon. I share with you guys the pros and cons of my job, doing marketing in the tech industry , and my overall experience starting a career in marketing so far. Also do you know how people get promoted to become a marketing manager? Do they have to go to grad school? Also do you usually work in teams or do you often feel like you do projects by yourself?

Lia Lana A lot of times a marketing coordinator role is an entry level position that will have you doing campaign support for marketing managers. I actually started as a marketing coordinator at my company and in a few months was ‘promoted’ to do field marketing. You definitely don’t need to go to grad school to do field marketing, just work for a few years from an entry level role to work your way up!

If I was doing marketing, I would absolutely do marketing for a tech company. I am unapologetic tech nerd 😂. I just love how technology can solve issues and automate certain processes in life. I also love the creativity of the human mind that goes into creating new technologies.
Yeah and there's also sooo many options working in tech - companies are popping up left and right with the most cutting edge tech
Amazon no longer requires degrees, they train themselves.

I went to school for marketing and didn’t learn ishhh tbh they now require so many digital marketing skills that were not taught in college. All I learned was marketing buzz words and b2c but not much tbh

Lynette Adkins Hi 🙂 I don’t know if you already covered this but it might be a good future video idea. Since a lot of marketing degrees don’t prepare one for actual marketing jobs can you recommend a degree that would be better or skills which would be useful to pick up? My school offers an information management degree (part of business school) and I was thinking that might prepare me to be a better marketer since it teaches more tech/computer science skills (such as analytics and programming). What do you think? Also I know LinkedIn offers some classes so I was planning on taking videos on SEO.

This is such an incredibly helpful video! I am only 17 and have been accepted into University of AZ with aspirations of starting my own business while in college, and I plan to major in marketing. I now know to get experience early and to make myself stand out in the competition. I'm so grateful for your guidance! I was wondering if you can tell me if minoring in something like conservation would help me out, or what minors to consider?
I'm thinking about switching my major to marketing. I work on the social media team for my sorority and I really enjoy putting together posts, story posts, new campaigns for our social media, and working with things like graphic design, photoshop, photography, and video editing. I would love to work in retail for fashion companies, possibly in digital marketing, but I am not sure if a Marketing BBA or an Advertising BA would be the right move for me? I definitely feel like having a BBA looks better than a BA, but I'm not sure what would be best or if one would make me more money than the other? What do you recommend?
I recommend the advertising route if you enjoy more of the creative and marketing if you are business minded! Design/video editing skills can definitely help in a digital marketing role, there's just also other things to think about like SEO, digital systems (like splashthat, etc) that you'll also be doing as well. I say look for internships in both areas and see what interests you the most!

I’d like to get into nightlife marketing promo event planning etc . Very recently, I started looking at Marketing and Industrial Design as choice options for my future. I really am confused because I thought that I wanted to be a Product Design Engineer, but now I’m lost in my own thought bubble. Any advice to find my true passion?
I say try to get internships in the fields your interested in while your in college. Also, you don't have to stick with just one thing - it may be good to get a degree in design as a whole or engineering so you can try different career paths once you graduate!

Did you only major in marketing? I'm interested in fashion and tech somewhat. I saw some people say that if you major in marketing you should double major or also have a minor.
I did the same thing i started an organization on campus and i started a tea business! would love for you to check it out. But i agree showing leadership in college does make you stand out when interviewing.

Did you have to cold call? I actually prefer b2b I worked as an account executive but I was cold calling and I hated it. That was terrible coming from a huge well intl known company. So do you sell? Or do you create relationships?
Also are you given a book of business ? Or you’re expected to create your own I was in Nyc. Making only $50 k I was 28 and it was stressful I need to meet revenue goals with no assistance . It was like I was thrown out to make business and create meetings via the phone. Then schedule client meetings with NO assistance . Just cold call email etc until they give in .

I'm having a communication degree is it advisable to do an MBA in marketing?
The only reason I got in to marketing was because I wanted to get people attention to my store and after selling on ebay and other stores some 2007 they put my store at the bottom where people will not know about you so I got tired and found out about marketing and doing it for 3 years now I am starting to find my self doing it in y free time or ways to make it better. And pretty much got courses from Ty Lopez And other marketers also books and I’m starting to take pieces from each one to build my own blueprint

Hello Ms. Lynette Adkins, thank you for the video. I have a degree with Marketing but never really got the opportunity with internships or a job opportunity. I’m older now 34 years old but don’t have any experience in the field but would like to try and get an entry level position. I always wanted to be in the field of sports marketing but never really knew how to go about it. Tech is definitely the wave but not sure how to even start that journey. I know age plays a huge part with opportunity but I still want to take a chance. Product marketing would be something I really would like and also be interested in digital marketing

Tracy Ragland Yes you should definitely try doing marketing for a real estate business!! There’s a lot of room for digital + social media marketing for brokerages. A startup would be awesome as well to get some digital marketing experience. From what I’ve seen digital marketing is a great career and is needed across almost every industry
