  • In this episode of Tech Trends Unpacked, hosts Emily Jacobs and Ryan Torres dive deep into the surprising impact of self-service kiosks in the fast-food industry. Originally feared as job killers, kiosks have reshaped roles rather than eliminating them. Drawing from a CNN article by Nathaniel Meyersohn, they explore how kiosks have led to new responsibilities, from upselling to improving guest experience, while also creating operational challenges.
    Emily and Ryan discuss:
How kiosks have affected jobs in fast food
The link between kiosks and minimum wage debates
The parallels between kiosks and other self-service tech like ATMs
Why effective communication about kiosks is key for employees and customers
Are kiosks here to replace us, or are they enhancing the fast-food experience? Join the conversation and find out!"

Creepy to watch. It's uncanny valley and I'm freaked out it took a couple shots for me to realize the AI was there.

The AI nailed it with the realistic people eating fast food. Felt like was actually sitting in a McDonald's

Here's a novel idea. Instead of standing in line at a kiosk, why not have an app for download to your phone and have your own personal kiosk on your phone? Upon entering the store a QR code is scanned and your menu appears on your phone. You can order from the comfort of you seat and pay as well.

Great video! Love the uncanny AI shots mixed with real ones! Genuine critique, not trying to be mean: In your video editor, if you have all your B roll shots on one layer, then you hit the M (for mute) on that track, it will turn off all the sound for those detail shots.

I purposely don’t use the kiosks because I don’t want to replace the people

Mobile order is really the only way and you have to know someone working there to assure a custom plain pound burger is the right size still. Jobs are a mess. I don't use devices I can't spell easily.

The person that thought it would be a good idea to show slow motion clips of people eating needs to be fired.

When it comes to fast food restaurants, I don't. No one working there wants to be there. They are barely paying attention. A majority of the time I have to give my order twice or more. With the kiosks, it takes the cashier out of the equation. One less person to make a mistake. I'm just trusting the person in the kitchen to read the order correctly,

I remember when the McDonald's first launched the kiosks near mall where I lived. I first used it during a Sunday rush after thr church groud got out. And the line up was all the way to the door but no one was using the kiosk. So I used the kiosk, and it had the option for tabel service. I paid, took the number card for my tabel and sat down to wait. I only wated for a few minutes before a staff member came and delivered the food to the tabel I was sitting at. All while the people still in the line up where giving me an angry look that I essentially skipped the line up and got served food faster lol.
