Lake Mead: what happens if the water levels drop to low?

- KTNV's Paulina Buck speaks with the Water Authority regarding Lake Mead's lowering levels and how residents will receive water if the current water level trend continues.
This subject has been talked about for years and what is being done??? NOTHING.
Ya what's the f*cking plan??
They have been talking about it for at least 25 years! I lived in then fabulous Las Vegas Nevada from January 1978 to September 2011! Saw and heard it all play out. What a ruse. All it was talk talk talk. No action. Should of rationed water 10 years ago. In April 1983, I personally saw and experienced the flip side of this mega drought. Lake Mead was overfilled, and Hoover dam overflowing its banks. Palm trees under water, the lake was so full it almost burst at the seams. Have pictures to prove it. Water was so clear and clean. Maybe a miracle or two will happen like that again, but it won't be anytime soon. I saw this coming in 1990's and 2011, so I got the hell out!! Best decision ever. Good luck all!
Yeah they're doing plenty building more homes !
Obama and Biden says it's Bush's fault

Reality is going to win this battle.

It's knocking on the door now.
Yes reality not fantasy praying
Absolutely !
It's almost like these cities were built in a desert or something.
It’s not even that. Homes can be sustainable in the desert. But hundreds of golf courses along with huge farms is not something a desert can sustain
Diper Duty!
Exactly, it wasn’t meant to sustain freaking golf courses and massive cities.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the first group of experts,
Never expected their pipes to be sticking out of the ground, unable to pump water.
I’m no water expert, but shouldn’t they be saying not if but when the water drops below the third intake?
Yes, they should. But, Nevada State Government can't, won't admit the disaster that is happening right in front of their eyes. No Las Vegas. No State Revenue. So, head in the sand is the party line.
They should. I'm sure you understand why they don't. Breaking the delusion of baseless optimism means that a significant portion of the population will blame the newsmakers for what follows.
Over 85% of the world's wealth only exists in a context of endless growth. If the establishment admits that the only way for the foreseeable future is down - that we will keep making do with less, going without, at least for several generations, this wealth will literally disappear, and the stock markets, the banks, long-term contracts will all go pop. Overnight. The collapse of USSR was so traumatic that we here in post-Soviet states still can't get over it and murder and deprive people in droves to settle the score. Imagine the collapse of the entire fucking world - nobody, NOBODY wants to be the one to start the plunge. Nobody wants to be the executioner of this fake world of ours.
they have to say "for now we are ok", because otherwise real estate prices and much more would collapse!!!
Probably working on a 4th as we speak.
Still watering golf courses and growing avocado tress in the desert huh? We don't have a water shortage, we have an abundance of human stupidity.
Agreed! Keep that Suburban Sprawl going in the desert.

There was never a sense of urgency to fix the problem. Only when the home builder companies would complain that they could not get permits were there any type of action. Hard to feel sorry for Las Vegas now.
What's going to happen.. Lake mead will go dry... which won't be able to generate energy for hoover Damm which won't be able to generate energy for las vegas...Gas prices will be too high for companies to ship critical water to Las Vegas and there will be a mass exodus leaving the city

@@kawonu2666 😀😀
Las Vegas and other areas downstream of the dam should never have been allowed to take more water out than what was flowing in. This whole situation was 100% intentional and 100% preventable. They should immediately cap outflows to inflow and ration water accordingly.
From reading other comments on other sites it looks like the usual release (or lack thereof) from Lake Powell is causing a big issue too.
It's a combination of drought and too many people living in the desert using too much water.
Using less water does not create water. Water won't appear in a dry river or lake bed if people don't use it. Water comes from rain and snow not from not using it. Reality

"...drop to (too) low'
Maybe California and much of the west coast should have built desalination plants instead of using Hoovers water and electric for water sports and fun.
Some (if not many) people think that they have (or should have) exclusive rights to the Colorado River water. Nothing could be further from the facts. Regardless, as of 2019, California has 11 desalination plants with at least 10 more being proposed. With much of its allocation of Colorado River water, California provides ~85% of the produce sold in America. Some people (if not many) think that California should desalinate ever increasing amounts of ocean water to keep Arizona golf courses green, while they allow rich corporations to drain acquifers to sustain cattle ranches and dairy farms. Maybe political "leaders" in Arizona should start investing some of their tourism windfalls into a $15 billion water pipeline from the Mississippi River. Better yet, negotiate with Mexico to construct their own desalination plants in the Gulf of Mexico. Then again some (if not many) would have to admit that Mexico stands to be a vital country for Arizona's economic survival. In return, Mexico might demand that America: "tear down that wall."
Thank you
I love how people from NV get upset when CA takes "their" water from the COLORADO river. You voluntarily live in a wasteland propped up by the latest bubble economy or ponzi scheme.
@Aaron Shannon It's not democrats it's environmentalists. Most people would welcome desalination plants.

But don't cry later when the well runs dry! 🤔
@Baby Blu3 Thank you! 👏👏👏👏
@Baby Blu3 if Nevada only allocates 2% of water usage then why are you guys cutting back on your water usage more than any other state. I live in Phoenix where it’s 4.9 million residents and we aren’t being told to drastically cut back on water usage or being told to give up grass in our yards for rocks and dirt? That’s probably because It actually rains more in Arizona than it does in Nevada. We are in drought zone but not as bad as Las Vegas. We are not being told a lie that we are water secure. I just think Las Vegas alone depends on that Hoover Dam for energy and water more than Phoenix.
Nevada really does not take much of the water (4% of the total allotment). Farming in Arizona (37%) and California (59%) are the main consumers.
But how can we live without almonds and avocados?
The third intake comes up in the old river bed, elevation is 860’ at the top of it. If the lake was to get low enough to be a river again, The only thing holding Vegas from getting water is if they stop releasing water upstream. If it ever came to that things would get really bad

If only these desert dwellers were warned that a water shortage might occur; that a shortage is likely; that a shortage is imminent; that the shortage is a now a CRISIS; that it’s too late because it’s happening right now!
All that population growth and development over the years into the southern California, Arizona and Nevada regions has sure played havoc on the supply of water that Mother Nature can provide. Sometimes she has plenty to give, sometimes she doesn't. Last couple of decades she hasn't had enough to keep supplying everyone on a steady basis. Always pinning it "climate change" is a cop out.

Politicians are too dumb and polarized to do a thing about water issues in the southwest US. We're going to lose a significant amount of agriculture in Arizona and California soon.
Aren't they supposed to do something about a situation that's unsustainable? Like stop building houses, apartments and casinos?
What's there to do? Just look at the backlash against Biden cancelling the pipeline that would've turned a river into poison soup. If they stop building, the electorate will drown them in shit for "ruining jobs" and "driving up property prices".

The people that live out there in the desert you better start looking for another place to live because unless if they put a pipeline down for water from another state to another state you’re not gonna be able to rely on Lake Mead Lake Powell the Hoover dam and the Colorado river because you’re shit out of luck it’s been a drought for more than 20 years and it’s not gonna get any better so I will be preparing for the worst and I would be getting the heck out of there that’s why I’m glad I live in Florida we get rain every day sometimes we get too much rain…..👌💯 it’s a sad situation but nobody should be living in the desert it’s not made for people to live!!!!
