- edit: my bad for calling falafel a burrito! i genuinely thought he was a burrito and that "falafel" was just his name. I have never personally heard of a falafel wrap until now (idk how or why) so i ignorantly assumed he was a burrito. it was dumb of me to not do proper research on the characters i talk about and ill keep this in mind.
Today I dived into the cartoons of the 2010s and late 2010s to see what all the hate was about. Was it warranted? or was it just recency bias at the time? lets find out.
I gave my thoughts on Clarence, Uncle Grandpa and Apple and Onion :) let me know ur thoughts on these cartoons!

Dude We Bare Bears was robbed. It had everything it needed to be a classic, with great characters, a cute concept, amazing chemistry and relationships with the characters and an overall wholesome feel to the show, but it just never reached there. Still one of the best shows out there though.
I have no idea why it's so extremely underrated It just kind of fell off because Of the shiton of marathons of teen titans go
My honest opinion is it just wasn't that good. It wasn't bad at all, it just seemed to play it so safe all the time that it was boring to watch. I think that's why it can't stand with stuff like steven universe or clarence, those shows do a lot of more genuine and risky stories and characters that are really amazing when they pull it off. We Bare Bares is aleays just fine, not really ever that bad or good.
@@jebbushu711 Definitely feel this. As a kid, every time we bare bears came on I felt indifferent to it. Compared to the likes of Steven Universe and Clarence, We Bare Bears feels more like a reality show. It's not bad, just mundane
That show is just very dry. That's why nobody really cared about it. It's not a bad show, but it's not very entertaining either. And a lot of the episodes I watched would actually be frustrating to view if anything. I remember many reoccurring plots revolving around the same ol' "bears do something stupid, they try to perform damage control, it gets even worse, eventually the problem is fixed in some capacity" over and over. This could be funny, but there was little comedic value there IMO to wrap it all up. I would just feel second hand embarrassment watching the characters behave the way they do. Also, was it ever established that the animals are intelligent? The basic woodlands animals like the rabbits seem to comprehend English and all. I don't think I've ever seen that explored further. I also wonder why Chloe was designed the way she was. It never added anything to the show.
I could kind of understand why everyone’s saying what they are here, but i guess that’s why i liked it. It didn’t have a huge plot with complicated twists and turns and a heap ton of characters, it’s just a lot more simple. I see it as more of a comfort show, and that’s probably why i liked it so much.
Unironically Clarence is probably one of the best kid's show depiction of OCD I've seen.
Jeff being able to still join in on the fun while still being more reserved and germophobia, it made me as a person with (then undiagnosed) OCD feel so seen. The constant worrying of getting in trouble, the perfectionism and the fear of germs, but also being able to play with my friends
I don't have ocd, but I do have anxiety, and I related very much to Jeff's own intrusive thoughts and or disdain of germs and or being safer. He honestly he was my favorite next to Sumo.
I have it too and I’m on my way to getting diagnosed so I appreciate the portrayal as well (also I got the 100th like which is pretty satisfying)

Funny story about Apple and Onion:
I was in Buffalo for a swim meet with my mom and brother. We were in the hotel room resting up before the finals that day and Apple and Onion was on. There was an episode where they featured the Jerk Chicken.
For those who don’t know: Jerk chicken is a Caribbean delicacy.
They showed him pulling out some Lard and he went “Lard? Lard? Lawd a mercy!” Which is a pretty popular saying in Jamaica.
My mom is Jamaican and she had a good laugh at that bit.
It’s been a running gag that whenever I see a Jamaican character, I just point it out to my mom and we get a lil chuckle out of it.
That’s one of the good things I love about AAO. The cultural foods actually have actors from said culture playing them and making it accurate. Which isn’t new for CN since they’ve been doing this for so long. The Jerk Chicken has an *actual* Jamaican actor voicing him and the Falafel has a Middle Eastern actor. I love that they show different foods from different cultures :)

I don't remember much about Clarence because it wasn't my favourite show, but what stands out to me now is its representation.
-Jeff is a germophobe with OCD and two mums
-Clarence's mum is divorced, he has a loving step-dad
-Sumo is outwardly poor with a huge family
This one really tried to show what American school kids are actually like, with their unique family situations and neurodivergencies. It's a sincere show, and I'm lucky to have grown up with it
I'm pretty sure Clarence is autistic or at least on the spectrum , I just always had that vibe about him
I’ll never forgive the cartoon community for hating on Uncle Grandpa and Clarence. These two shows only crime was they weren’t Gravity Falls or Steven Universe!
They are in my honest opinion better than Gravity Falls and Steven Universe. I find them much more funny.
@@jumentoqueanimaI think that's where the contention is rooted. People were comparing them when they're different genres. GF and SU have humor, but they're more serialized stories with drama. Uncle Grandpa and Clarence are more episodic and comedic. Networks liked episodic stories more, so in the beginning, they all had a similar feel in general. Even when each started to define itself differently, people were still trying to weigh them on the same scale, but couldn't see that they weren't doing the same thing.
Ppl wanted the shows to be serious, now everything is serious to the point it became unappealing

wait, people hated Apple and Onion? i loved that show, it was 2 guys going on funny relatable adventures, and it was so heartwarming to watch with the occasional serious moment. there's also the fact that it was technically diverse, since some of the food were foods from other countries, like Patty Empanada, or Falafel.

Apple and Onion is great deadpan humor presented in an understated way. So it's kinda the antithesis of the CN brand. I always enjoy watching it even though I realize it's a show with like no stakes and a sort of old fashioned comedy duo vibe.

My mom was Uncle Grandpa’s audience. She’d MAKE us watch episodes with her as a way of bonding. We owned Uncle Grandpa DVDS, not sure where she bought them but we owned them 🤷♀️. It felt torturous at the time, but now Uncle Grandpa holds a spot in my heart for being one of the few shows I watched with my mom.
The other two were SpongeBob and Rabbids Invasion, so idk if you notice a pattern..

I'm honestly so happy with your positivity towards Clarence. It was one of my favorite shows growing up for all the reasons you stated! It had "dumb" humor but always had a reason for it, the main characters being polar opposites, and the show just revolving around a normal childhood was extremely enjoyable. I was shocked when I found out this show was overly hated, so im very glad you could shine some light on it!
Honestly I liked Clarence as a kid but then when you look at it now it’s heartwarming(except that one egg episode) I think it’s because we grew up and we just don’t see it how we used to.

Both of the Aunt Grandma episodes in Uncle Grandpa are probably the most cohesive stories in the whole show. A shame that they weren't mentioned.
I can say with confidence that Uncle Grandpa is one of the most overlooked cartoons of our time. It genuinely made me laugh when I watched it at a hotel or a campground since I didn't have cable at home.
I used to watch Uncle Grandpa all the time. Favorite episode was when he was playing video games and the loading screen was taking forever.
Why the hell is frickin Clarence so hated? It's the bomb and it's about childhood I've been watching all the episodes on repeat for 7 years like what's wrong with us? By Chris.
Ngl, I just find the characters annoying and always have. Personally, it's not for me but I even found clips that I found enjoyable.

Clarence was the one show me and my father bonded over when I was little, he wasn't home often as a workaholic and always would be away, but the moments he was home we would sit on the couch and watch Clarence and i appreciate the show for existing and giving me the good childhood memories with my father I barely have, the nostalgia and love for the show runs deep within me and I have always argued with people on WHY it's good [my childhood was also like Clarences since I was poor most of my life so I also love the portrayal] thank you awesomemay for reviewing and appreciating the show just as much as I did💕💕💕💕

These cartoons I watched are nostalgic, Steven Universe, Clarence, Uncle Grandpa, BreadWinners, and Teen Titans Go. Despite their quality, I still enjoyed them.
Fun fact: the same voice of SpongeBob is the voice of sumo from Clarence. The 2nd main character. Also my best friend knows the voice of Clarence like on Twitter. By Chris.

Over the Garden Wall is incredible. I haven't seen these other shows, but the first time I heard of Apple & Onion I did a double take, cause I have my own little series called Boot & Apple lol. Put me on the air, Cartoon Network, I'm ready. Also, Kung Fu Panda 4 was not bad.

I was a fan of Breadwinners as a kid, and a while ago I realized that Goro Akechi from Persona 5 has the same voice actor as the tall duck. So when I was playing and Akechi was screaming and having dramatic moments, I could only hear the Breadwinners duck.

Uncle Grandpa genuinely helped me cope with the death of my own grandfather, as it came out around that time. I'll always love it for that. That, and its UA-cam Poop-esque nature, which is very much my style of humor.

I first watched Breadwinners on a day I was sick from school and liked it and was practically obsessed with it.

Dang, I did not expect you to mention Carol and the End of the World. Knowing about shows like that means that you're really tuned into the animated world.
As a kid, I never really knew why I liked Clarence, I was like 11 to 12 when it came out and I just had fun watching it. Now that I'm older, I realize I liked it because of how relatable and grounded it felt. Seeing Clarence go through the kinds of adventures and shenanigans I had was just so fun to see.
Dude don't trash on Harvey Beaks. I recommend it, it's a nice and cozy show and down to earth. Also it's creator is the same one who created chowder and it's very contrasting from the randomness and 4th wall breaks of chowder to the calm and down to earth vibe of Harvey Beaks not to say it doesn't have its chaotic moments. They also had this steampunk special which I really liked.
Looking back at Clarence and watching it as an adult I started to absolutely love it. I watched it here and there when it first came out, but I never fully got into it until two years ago
My family and I will quote "Welcome to Mart Mart the place you go when you need things for stuff." from one episode of Uncle Grandpa (I think It was called Shaving cream/Nickname season 1 or 2) and we also quote "When I was a little girl about your age" (This Episode 30:50) whenever we can.

The newer shows that are coming out with their intense plots and strong characters are great, but I want to see more shows like the ones in this video (minus breadwinners, I watched the whole show and hated it) because I need me something to watch that isnt emotional or intense but instead g=funny and goofy

Big City Greens is pretty good. It's a wholesome show with a really chaotic nature.
OK KO was ONE of the best shows from CN, I miss it but still watch the show on Hulu. I still draw the characters and my ocs and Professors Venomous was the best villain (for MANY reasons >:3✨) along side boxman too. Wonder if you’ll do a review of it someday

Finally, Clarence and uncle grandpa get some recognition for once also I very much recommend watching the six episode special. It’s in season three there’s four episodes after that but I really just consider the six episode special the end, but to be honest that’s one of the best episodes and if we were to tally them up. It comes to around an hour of watch time

i love clarence its unironically one of my fav shows i was legit like clarence when i was in elementary school so watching it is legit like watching an exaggerated version of shit i would get up to when i was younger.
its especially strange cuz my other favorite shows are stuff like bojack horseman and breaking bad and edgy angsty reddit gold r/im14andthisisdeep type shows so clarence is really an outlier and of all shows to be an outlier i think clarence being it is pretty funny

breadwinners was weird but looking back...no it's still weird. too many butt jokes. But hey that show has a better concept than sanjay and craig....scratch that, fanboy and chum chum was alittle easier to watch than both of those shows.
Anyway i really enjoy shows like Clarence. i feel that its rare to see shows about just kids being themself and living life, these days.
Shows like recess, hey arnold, as told by ginger, even kids next door just to name a few are great examples of this.
I included kids next door because in the grand scheme of it all they are just kids playing pretend.

I'm genuinely happy for the past few years more and more people have forgiven shows like Clarence and uncle grandpa. They weren't bad just weird as hell at the time, hope more people learn about clarence
I didn’t know people hated breadwinners, I remember when it was still on air and how I used to write down all the different types of bread they found. Simpler times honestly
Loved the video game aesthetic the show had it reminded me of Scott pilgrim , and I think the reason people hated it is because of the gross out humor which is understandable

Apple and onion have a very diverse cast ,(falafel is not a burrito ,he's an arabic food and is often shown being in Egypt in his flashbacks ) but only being diverse is not enough, and this show is absolutely in a sad state ,everytime i think about it makes me sad ,and the creator barely has any followers, i just think about how the creator was excited to make a show ,only for it to be the most boring and save thing ever

I actually enjoyed Clarence and Uncle Grandpa. I watched I little bit of Apple and Onion and it was fine. BreadWinners was actually from I think a UA-cam animation. And Nickelodeon decided to call the animators for that video to make the series.
Pretty sure when i watched breadwinners as a kid, snakesnake and ketta were my pansexual awakening.
I still can't believe I can officially say breadwinners of all things was my gay awakening but it happened.

14:09 I have a GIF of this scene and the way Clarence cries, which I send to friends a lot and they always wonder why I liked this show so much as a kid. I was the only one back then who enjoyed this show, because I was the only one in my friend group who watched it. When I showed Clarence to a friend back then, he actually enjoyed it and it turned out he just had a lot of prejudices towards Clarence because he thought it looked stupid. He then introduced me to BreadWinners, a show I hold the same prejudices against and I actually liked it. Even my Dad liked BreadWinners and watched it with me sometimes. We still sometimes reference these two Cartoons.
That's actually kind of wholesome.
Sometimes I dislike the cartoon community for this reason. They’ll review shows that isn’t that bad and make it like it’s the worse thing possible. But once the show gets good or people found it it was good to begin with. It’s already cancelled. And then you’ll have people making videos about it saying how we shouldn’t be hard on it.
Like yes there’s bad cartoon like really bad but can y’all stop being an asshole about it.

I’ve watched all of these shows back in like 2020. I don’t remember a lot but I do remember enjoying them since they were just shows I could sit and enjoy without thinking too hard about it. I think I enjoyed Clarence the most since I remember watching most of the episodes, and I always watched Uncle Grandpa when going to bed. I need to watch these shows again.

Uncle Grandpa and Clarence don't really deserve to be trash on as Powerpuff Girls (2019) and Teen Titans Go.
Bro, I used to watch a lot of Blake's Place and I forgot about it, thanks for reminding me about it. I honestly forgot everything about the show but the 2 main characters.

Dude me and my sibling used to always watch breadwinners when we were at our grandmas, and loved it.I don't like it as much now, but it is still a part of my childhood that i will never forget.
Always good to keep an open mind, not everything made is good but it's always worth trying to find appreciation in what's being created

I used to watch Clarence a lot during my Highschool years and I love it. Now I'm 23 year old dude and I still watch it from time to time. It's fun~

Uncle G was actually pretty good. Though, it was the incessant ads that turned me off.
It went from "Eh, I'd give it a watch" to "The next thing to shove Uncle Grandpa in my face is going through the window!"

Wow, Clarence was definitely one of my favs as a kid and I kinda liked some of these others as well, but yeah you could feel that they were underrated. And from everything I’m gathering, I think you would like the show “Rise of the TMNT” which is another 2010s(though on the later side) cartoon that was overhated cause of old fans and them trying new stuff(that worked). It knows not to take itself too seriously, but when it does take itself seriously, IT SLAPS! And the animation is just breathtaking, the studio also made Monkie Kid, another beautiful show.
Uncle Grandpa feels like if the writers read Homestuck and said: I can make something more random than this
