Plenty of plastic, like most new machines, but it’s easy to thread for a while.
Until things start breaking, you will enjoy its ease of threading.
Threading sergers has always been difficult, so this machine was developed to ease your pain in that area.
It will be easier to thread, until it’s not.
I don’t recommend these sergers unless you have the money to replace them often.

I have this exact unit! Got it second hand and I love it so far, but good to know it might not be the serger of my dreams that I thought it would be. But I googled Singer 14U33 that you mentioned at the end... and there is not so much as a picture of one online. Did I hear that correctly?

Google Singer 14U33 Serger for sale and see what pops up.
It’s an oldie. You might find a 286.
Try to find one that’s made in Japan.
Even an old Juki or Janome that’s made in Japan.
The older, the better.
