Im still waiting for the AX24 is be back in stock. I'm very interested in the fixed rotor on the roro spools. I've always been a Shimano guy but this year I added the Alphas Air TW 8.6 to my bfs line up and have fallen in love with it. Sad to say this week when I had to respool it I dropped my stock spool on my garage floor, after my heart got going again I picked up the spool and it was cracked on the outer lip of the spool on the non rotor side. It was scary to see just how fragile the spool was. Finding a replacement spool has been a nightmare, I finally found one in Spain of all places. I now have a plush scrap of carpeting under my work bench. It's been a expensive lesson to learn.
Ouch. That's expensive. I have a stock spool I would have sold you hahaha. The Roro spools are great. I have a video on the Standard braking Alphas AIR TW Roro spool.
Man....once again pure entertainment. I use this Roro spool as well but my casting skills unfortunately are much inferior compared to yours. Nice environment. In many aspects I think Canada is a fisherman’s dream!
@@HobieWanKenobi ups....my mistake. Thought you are Canadian. Nevertheless I thin there‘s not much of a difference between the northern US territories or the southern Canadian territories....
Another great video on BFS. 😎 I have 2 BFS setups. One with the Aldebaran BFS, and the other with the Curado BFS. Are there any sites that offer after market spools for the Shimano BFS reels that you would recommend?
Just stopping to say you make really high quality content, these videos are very helpful. After watching this video a while ago, I also decided to try a bfs spool on my Alphas. It adds nice versatility to an already versatile reel with pretty low cost. Can I ask, how the reel has held up with you, or do you still use it? I'm thinking about picking another one with lower gear ratio for a bit heavier use (cranks and spinners...). Br from Finland
Thank you for the warm comment. I still have this reel and mostly use it with the stock spool for bass and walleye fishing. Gears are still smooth and the reel casts quite nice for my needs. Definitely worth the price. I know Digitaka recently stocked these reels. There is a discount code E42 that is still active as well.
What are your thoughts on the alphas 800s do you think with a bearing upgrade i could throw consistent 1/8 or the standard beariings will be sufficient. Im running the og alphas type r with the megabass shallow spool with hedgehig air bearings but i would like something like the 800s thats abit universal up to 1/4 ounce flats sea fishing. Any thoughts would help btw love your content.
Bearing upgrade most likely will work for you. The spool is capable of 1/8oz, especially for distance casting. For short range / streams, I would go for the Roro spool.
Alpha SV with bfs spool and alpha air, do you think they are similar and and what is the difference between them you can feel. I think alpha SV heavier than alpha air 15 gram cause spool, brass main gear and add 2 ball bearing
What do you think about using a diy spool in, say, a fuego or tatula ct vs a factory built reel? A tatula with an aftermarket spool would be in a similar price range to the curado bfs, but you'd have two reels in one going the bfs route.
It's a valid point. I have a Roro spool for my Tatula and it works great. It offers versatility for sure. I dona lot of different fishing day to day so, swapping spools all the time gets annoying for me
@@HobieWanKenobi yeah, realistically anything I would do with the original spool I can do with my slx dc. So if a factory built bfs reel is better than a diy reel I really don't have much use for a modded reel.
@@HobieWanKenobi I'd be tempted to go diy just so I have a backup if another reel ia down for repair. A dual purpose reel could save a trip if something were to break.
@@HobieWanKenobi I see. I was thinking it might be like the chameleon spool where the shaft has been separated. If there is ever one in the future for the tatula 70, let us know. I so far have been able to cast down to 1/8 oz with it so its not so bad for I need it to do. Tatula 70 paired with a sougayilang light power rod. Rated 3-12 grams. 6 lb mono with a full spool. i like your small creek bfs videos ^^
Glad you like them! More will be coming in a few weeks.
Nice set up, i have the same reel and spool. My rapala ceratina ul rod just came in this week so im testing it out this weekend 😄
Those European and Asian Rapala rods look interesting. I also put a Sagisi Customs drag clicker in the Alphas SV TW 😉.

Yes, im still waiting for sagisi to contact me with the new kit so i can install it in my alpha sv tw.

Especially where I live. More Canadian influence around me than influence from the southern part of my state.
Thank you so much for this video and mine I'd coming today and I can't wait!
It performs very good. I prefer faster spool for lighter lures but, this spool is great for 1/16oz jig plus trailer and above.

Roro will be making a spool for the Curado BFS. Japan Tackle sells Shimano spools as well as Hedgehog
Excellent video. Lots of good information here
Great that it was helpful. A lot of general BFS fishing tips, not just about the Roro spool.

Thanks. Much practice and patience
Hey Hobie, what kind of rod did you use in this video? Is it a glass rod or carbon rod? Thank you!
Solid carbon.
You should try the Karil KTF neo spool in that reel.
I use mine stock most times. Usually for mag finesse bass / walleye fishing.
Great video! Could you elaborate on whether you tune your spool tension to have any side to side play or none?
I set my spool tension to have hardly any side to side play.

Yeah, I still think the Daiwa Alphas Air TW 8.6 is still the BFS KING. It even beats out the New Curado BFS.
I agree. I liked it stock too. Input the standard braking Roro spool in mine and it is even better.

Which lure was the first lure ?
A very informative video. Thanks a lot.
No problem. It was fun to get the spool out and see how it handles stream fishing.
Did you replace the brake sideplate bearing also to a micro bearing like the spool?
Yes

How much drag do you use on bfs reels?
I generally set my drag so line pulls when the rod starts to resist bending.
Will this spool fit the new tatulas 70 sv
I'm guessing no because the Tatula has the long spool shaft
