    This album is a masterpiece!!!! Every single song is perfect from start to finish and having Jerry Finn and Butch Vig produce the album made it even better.

      Agreed, this is one of the very few albums that I usually listen to all the way through. It doesn't feel like a collection of different songs, it's more like one long musical story, and This Time Imperfect at the end is an amazing finale.

      You can verify this comment is a fact because of how expensive the vinyls are for this album. I’m still trying to find a good copy x.x Changed my life in multiple ways.

    I hadn't searched for any AFI reactions in years just due to the fact very few people do them and I happened to come across this one on a whim.
    I have to say I'm a huge AFI fan and own all their albums, been to concerts, and fell in love with the lyrics first, and then the sound.
    The two songs you chose were very mainstream tracks, but glad you gave them a chance though. These guys are what drew me out of thinking only country music existed.
    I will be subscribing!

    The latter half of the last track called "This Time Imperfect" might be an even better showcase. This was AFI's last good album. They started out hardcore in the early 90's (!) then went into emo years down the road (by the 4th album, basically) - playing very much a defining role for that style - and while I heard they actually got harder again after this in some places, most of what I listened to sounded like emo pop and I gave up on them. Still, you gotta realize that this was an established band and this album sounds like it could be a debut.
    The album prior to this one called "The Art of Drowning" is probably their best. The songs are not as perfectly produced, with a rougher edge. From that album my pick would (again) be the last one, Morningstar.

    I used to listen to these guys when they were a hardcore punk band back in the 90s. Saw them a few times. By the millennium they were heading a lot more into this emo era. I stopped listening to them after this album you've had on. Don't mind it though.

    • @xSergioRottenx
      @xSergioRottenx 4 роки тому

      There's no such thing as "emo rock", The genre it's called "emotional hardcore (emocore, emo)" and Afi isn't emo.

    • @darkashtar
      @darkashtar 4 роки тому

      @@xSergioRottenx well honestly I listened to them when they were just straight out punk, emo and all the other terms came out when I was too old too keep track of all the labels lol so I might misuse the vernacular of the younger generation. I was already an adult when emo became a thing, in high school there were goths and punks and skaters that were loosely tied together. But as you grow up you don't define music as well as younger people. With age you just find it hard to keep up with newer trends. I mean technically they went from punk to postpunk, but even then there are so many sub genres too.

      We all have music like that; just to put on and enjoy regardless of "quality". I look back at some of the bands I used to listen to and I KNOW they're not amazing by any standard, but I can't help enjoy listening to them every once in a while.
      And yeah, it is lol. I think there were about 25 people there and 6 open stores last week :D

    The only thing I liked about the first tune was the drumming during the break. What's that worth? 1.5, maybe? In the 2nd tune, I liked the groove and it was generally ok. I guess it sounds too much like other stuff I've heard. 2.9 for the 2nd. Go Sumofish!

    There's so much music out there. So many tastes and flavors. Once again, this isn't for me. First song, I give a 2.1. The second song a 2.4. The music is played very well. The band is talented. The singer is an opera. I just wanted something else mixed in there. The added element of a keyboard, or more instances of ambiance. I'm a weirdo.

    When the one song you know from AFI before this is Miss Murder then you’re off to a bad start..... Miss Murder is honestly probably one of their best songs in the last 10-15 years but that’s not saying much because IMO there is 2 versions of Afi and for some reason they are very different ( although it’s still all the same members ) there is sing the sorrow and everything before it and post sts mostly everything post sts is really bad they just sold out and started making horrible music but then there’s sing the sorrow and everything before it is really quite amazing in highschool which is when sts came out I was obsessed with them sing the sorrow is a masterpiece and everything before it is great like really great and there is like 8-10 albums and eps but then over the last 10-15 years it has dramatically changed and I can’t even listen to it honestly I have seen very little bands that have changed that much and it’s sad but seriously get into everything they made before 2004 and it’s really great ( side note I do love every song on sing the sorrow including girls not grey but that is hands down the weakest song on that album)
    Btw is your rating system 1-5 or 1-10?

    Guys I'm sure you've noticed that all of your reviews which are classic or prog rock get far more views than some of the other stuff. Those are MY genres. I have tried to watch some of your other vids of more contemporary music and really don't like it. If your goal for your channel is views maybe you should do more classic/prog. I know it isn't your favorite genre so maybe you don't want to do that...I give AFI (0.1) Sorry...hate it.
