I remember having to call nintendo to get the parental lock reset on a 3ds I bought years and years ago. This was before they had sites around to generate the key automatically and I straight up just told the rep that answered that I bought it off ebay and he helped me no problem.
I remember my original 3DS which I got off ebay "unused, unwanted christmas present" came with a parental lock on it. Nintendo customer support in the UK made me MAIL IT TO THEM to get it removed and factory reset the device. I didn't really care in the long run since I got a pretty much new 3DS for like half the retail price, and a few years later it was superceded by my New 3DS anyway.

xperiaviper Usually there's a sticker or marking on the plastic housing, so you'd need to take the sticker that goes with the working board and put it on the working DS
my 3ds was secondhand from a thrift, it had a parental lock so i called the nintendo customer service line and they actually helped me with it which was very kind
You’re implying that newer technology is worse because they’re harder to repair and have more functions. I’m sure you’d love to be using your easy to repair blackberry and Apple II today if that’s so important to you.
Suu Kyofan Excuse me? I never said they were "worse" I was looking at it from someone who's attempting to repair old Vs new technology, not as a general use.
Retro Plus The way you phrased your sentence made it seem that way to me. I don’t care enough to argue, so if that’s wha you meant I’ll take it straight from the source and believe you.
I've got a Boxed Yellow 2DS. It seems no one is doing repacement shells for the 2DS. As been looking to do one of these faulty 2DS's and change it into a RED or as your's a BLUE clear shell version. Did the Blue 2DS memory card have the Poky Blue on it then.
Its actually ONE entire screen, and NOT 2. some trickery was done by Nintendo to save money, and only programmed the pixels required to give the illusion of 2 screens. This is why they most likely when with a design that wont fold.
I was able to get a (supposed) launch edition DS classic that came with all accessories and a carrying bag for just $20, was in good condition (had a few scratches) and in perfect working order
I remember the 2DS I had been playing with in bed and my dad took the sheets to clean them, but the 2DS got stuck in the sheets and went through the washing machine AND dryer. While I'm sorta glad it went through the dryer right after coming out I'm mostly glad it didn't melt. It didn't work at first when we found out about it, but we left it in rice to more thoroughly dry and my mom bought me an identical one. About a week later when it arrived the old one turned on (it only worked plugged in, the battery couldn't hold a charge anymore) and it lasted long enough for me to connect the new one to the internet and perform a system transfer. Kinda wish my parents sold the parts, it was mostly working aside from some blotches in the screen and the battery having literally gone through the wash. That was my second 2DS, I don't want to go into detail about what happened to the first one, I think 'dropped by your brother from the second story window' would void the warranty.
Wow! I get so scared just thinking about doing something like this! The closest I've come to doing something like this is by homebrewing my 3DS lol. XD
Your video has given me the confidence to re-shell an old, damaged US 2DS and give it the beautiful Crystal Yellow casing and buttons. Thank you for the video!
I remember one day two years ago my mom woke me up in the summer because she saw on Facebook someone in the neighborhood had a red crystal 2ds at a garage sale for 15 dollars. It worked perfectly and had basically no damage. The kid barely used it and it kinda left me a little sad to see his play time. I gave my old 3ds that was pretty banged up to my friend for her birthday because she really loved animal crossing and wanted something to play it with.
This is exactly the kind of content i wanted to see from you If you´d expand into even more models (phat DS, DSi and maybe 3ds but those are fairly complex) that would be great.
This is why I cry at how destructive my brother is with game systems. He had a limited edition Mario DSI that I learned from UA-cam was literally just a matter of replacing the top screen and the GBA port. Smashed it with a bat in the backyard and gave it to me to salvage the buttons and the top screen shell since it managed to stay intact and fairly undamaged.
I'd love to have a 2DS in that specific design at the moment. Back when it was on sale they wanted horrendous prices of over 200€ though. I'm not confident enough to try and get me a replacement shell and a cheaper model. >_
I recently came close to buying a 2DS off eBay where the shell was absolutely trashed but looked like the internals should be fine, but I stopped when I discovered that I couldn't find any replacement shells on AliExpress or eBay. I found the back half but the amount they were charging for it (without the front piece, which I couldn't even find) plus what the seller was asking put it over what I was finding for a working 2DS... Didn't find any faulty ones with good shells for less than what the broken shell one was going for, which I think I could have negotiated down to $50 but walked before I got that far
no he cant... $40 for the 2 ds's he used, then another 30 for the screen. Your already over the selling price of a 2ds by 20 bucks before shipping, and assuming selling on ebay any fees.
Great video, but I get the feeling you don't do too much of research before going into stuff. For example if you had this time, you would know that the screen on the 2ds is just one screen so there is no way to just change "one" of them since its just that, one screen and only separated in software and the frame. Keep it up though.
I love the 2DS, I find it super comfortable and also I got it super cheap, I got it for $80 with Mario kart pre installed and Pokemon Sun. When the regular one was $150
Thanks to your terrible influence I've been buying broken Nintendo DSs and fixing them up. The last one had a parental lock and I just tried 1,2,3,4 ... and it worked! lol Good content, man. I've been subscribed since I saw you on Ashens a few years ago but until I lost my job because of COVID that now I have the time to do it. My best purchase so far has been a DSL for $5 with a broken hinge and Scribblenauts Unlimited w/box. Just down the road on CL. These things are so much fun to work on. Now I'm jailbreaking them and doing all sorts of cool stuff! Thanks again for all your knowledge on this stuff.
Awesome channel man, you just earned yourself a new subscriber. But, that transparent 2DS is AWESOME. I have to get me one of those. Great job, brotha! #LetsRefurb
I wish I knew how to remove parental lock back when I got my used 3DS and New3DS. Had to contact Nintendo and they wanted a copy of my ID and it definitely took longer than what you have done here.
I think the two things you should focus more on with the Refurb Series is DMG Gameboys, and DS’s. Yes I know you do lots of Gameboys, but those are the Pockets! The DMG’s are so cool!
I was actually thinking about buying the blue one from ebay but completely forgot about it. I thought it would be a simple fix! Congratulations on getting it working!
I'm only just discovering the concept of home refurbing. I'm doing a couple updates on my 2012 macbook (simple stuff), so seeing how many improvements can be made to old hardware fascinates me.
That is so cool! I wish I knew how to fix things like you! Then I could replace the middle part of my 3Ds that holds both screens togethor, which is severly damaged and cracked. I have other 3Ds's now but I miss that old 3Ds, it was my very first one years ago :( It also has a issue with the left key not working...
I own two of these. The link edition one and the seafoam green one. I use to trash talk the 2ds until I held one and said to myself it feels like a gameboy. Now I do like the 3ds but I chose to get a 2ds and they are a lot cheaper and easy to fix. Love your channel man. Keep up the good work man.
It is my understanding that there is no way to replace only one screen because there is not actually two different screens on those. They’re actually a single large screen that is masked off by the mounting bracket.
1:10 Yeah, There’s a red one for Pokémon red, blue for blue and yellow for yellow. I really wanted the yellow but ended up getting the blue as the yellow was sold out years ago.
the white leaking around the side of the top screen is normal. i have 2 new pikachu 2ds consoles and they both do that. also, the screenshot is from the rosalina menu, which means that the console that the sd card was in was previously hacked.
It's not illegal. Side note: the last handheld nintendo console I had was a 2DS. Should I just shoot straight for the Switch, or is there some nice middle ground?
i believe if the 2ds was dropped into the water on purpose or by accident its not a fault with the system... thats a faulty person not a faulty console. its not bloody waterproof!
I found this video when looking up info because I'm interested in a 2DS for modding purposes and the multicolor buttons on crystal case look awesome, but unfortunately used version of it seem to be around $200! I guess I'll have to go for the regular crystal blue edition. RIP sick colorful buttons.
Pro tip for any 3ds user: if you have a 3ds/ 2ds that came with a game pre installed, you can go into the eshop, tap the 3 lines, scroll down and press other, redown load, and then you can redownload any software that originall y came with the device when it was new!
Hey man thanks for this video! I have my 2ds still the red and black one, but the right trigger got destroyed from castlevania games and it was all around in terrible shape from pokemon battling years ago. My joystick fell off etc. This helped me get a replacement joystick and put it on and clean out the triggers & buttons. Thanks again!
The 2ds screen is actually just one screen with the bottom portion being touch enabled. There's an interesting video on UA-cam about it and it's probably a big reason why Nintendo were able to sell them so cheap.
Fixed mine before this video came out but I wish I had the when I was fixing my 2ds because a few things went wrong but love this video we need more repair vids like this there aren't that many out there
The new screen looked better. I didn’t see any bleed on it and the colors looked vibrant. I wonder if the replacement screen is better. I feel like the original looks washed out.
I recently got a 2DS at a thrift shop. It had a parental lock on it. I entered “1234” and was in. 😂 My first guess was 0000. I’d suggest those get tried before going to other methods.
(psst, you cant replace only half the screen, as you mentioned, its one big screen, the sectioned off parts are just covered in take to cover from glare) its done in software to look like two
Nope. I had the same problem when I bought a Wii U (which turned out not to be brand new....) Had to guess the pincode to be able to reset the system :(
NICE VIDEO BRO! Now i know what is to be happy when a guy upload a video, yout last game boy video was pure quality, i watched all the video coz i was so interesed how you could repair that, i refurb DS lites on my country, you inspired me in your golden ds lite refurb, and yeah! I bought them from the same japanese seller on ebay!
FYI the reason you can't replace just one screen is because there's only one screen there in the first place. It's just sectioned off to look like two screens.
I remember my step brother hated me and my sister so when I got my game boy pocket for Christmas (which he also got one of that same day) he took mine and put deep scratches on my screen. My mom called ni tend when i got home distraught and got the screen repaired. Years later I find out he works in a chicke. Slaughterhouse.... Sounds about right.
Hello. I finally got a used Crystal Blue 2DS for under $100. It was pretty badly scratched up on both the body and the screen as well as having an input issue with the touch screen. I was wondering if you knew where I could order a new shell and screen from?
btw there was a dent in the plastic of the touchpad wich caused it to freak out, this can be fixed by just simply holdig a lighter at the dent for a short time
my left trigger is broken, and un responsive. i pulled apart the system and noticed that the trigger button housing is detached. will soldering it work? if so then how can i find the parts?
I really hope you asked them if they wanted any of the photos in it, i sent my old 3ds for repair and they deleted all of my photos that i took as a kid :(

That liquid damaged 2ds board may still be fixable. Soak it in isopropyl, get a toothbrush, and scrub that corrosion off. Could bring it back to life.
It looks to be toast because it hadn't been cleaned and dried right after the liquid ingress so it's probably corroded underneath one or more chips .
I thought the same. Well worth a try.
Thanks Mr. Skeltal, very cool!
the chips look corraded, to fix that board would cost as much as 2 3ds.

Genuinely what was the point of the 2DS, to me it just takes away the only thing that made the DS unique which was the clamshell design.

5:24 When not in use store your Nintendo 2DS outdoors on a picnic table in the rain.
Awesome channel man, you just earned yourself a new subscriber. But, that transparent 2DS is AWESOME. I have to get me one of those. Great job, brotha! #LetsRefurb
Thank you very much!
Here's a tip:
Put the transparent-blue 2DS in your collection and modify the gray-blue 2DS.
⚠️Do you ever go back to the E-Bayer to show them their damaged Console in it's fixed state?
Would _you_ do that if you were in his situation?
@@Connie_TinuityError i would
I wish I knew how to remove parental lock back when I got my used 3DS and New3DS. Had to contact Nintendo and they wanted a copy of my ID and it definitely took longer than what you have done here.
I had my 3ds for years and we forgot my parental pin after the move so I actually used that site a year ago lol glad to see you do too
I think the two things you should focus more on with the Refurb Series is DMG Gameboys, and DS’s.
You should make a thing where people could send you their broken stuff and you could fix it
That’s blue 2DS Button Color scheme look like Japanese Super Famicom
You forgot to check what was on the memory card and if the pokemon game boy game was on there
He couldn't, games are tied to the boards
The parental controls thing is perfectly legal
Phew!
the white leaking around the side of the top screen is normal. i have 2 new pikachu 2ds consoles and they both do that.
also, the screenshot is from the rosalina menu, which means that the console that the sd card was in was previously hacked.
I see so many good deals on UK eBay but the posh pricks won't ship outside the UK, even if it's in Europe.
ive bought off ebay sellers from the uk a lot and they shipped to new zealand
posh pricks? you ok bud. also thats just some of the sellers. you're generalizing
this video randomly came in my youtube recomended.. and now I got my old 3ds parental code restored bcs no one knew it- oh my
Fixed mine before this video came out but I wish I had the when I was fixing my 2ds because a few things went wrong but love this video we need more repair vids like this there aren't that many out there
The new screen looked better. I didn’t see any bleed on it and the colors looked vibrant. I wonder if the replacement screen is better. I feel like the original looks washed out.
I recently got a 2DS at a thrift shop. It had a parental lock on it. I entered “1234” and was in. 😂
My first guess was 0000. I’d suggest those get tried before going to other methods.
(psst, you cant replace only half the screen, as you mentioned, its one big screen, the sectioned off parts are just covered in take to cover from glare) its done in software to look like two
This inspires me to fix my 2ds xl. It's broken in half due to falling off a very slippy shelf.
Loved this one... Couldn't you just change the signed in account for parental lock? Seems mad that that would stick with the system.
Nope. I had the same problem when I bought a Wii U (which turned out not to be brand new....) Had to guess the pincode to be able to reset the system :(
wow, that is extreme! Guess thats nintendo for ya
Thank you very much dude!
FYI the reason you can't replace just one screen is because there's only one screen there in the first place. It's just sectioned off to look like two screens.
You've given me the idea to try to see if I can build my own custom system. Thank you for the really cool video.
I just found one of the transparent blue 2ds in a bin at work just waiting on a charger to see if anything needs sorting
I was wondering if you knew where I could order a new shell and screen from?
btw there was a dent in the plastic of the touchpad wich caused it to freak out, this can be fixed by just simply holdig a lighter at the dent for a short time
I just got punched in the mouth with nostalgia, I miss my 2ds
now can you make it comfortable to hold?
Yayyy it worked! The parental controls. Didn't think I would be needing it until a 2DS showed up in the recycling today 😀
Wow nice!
Hi Elliott can you do a teardown of the dead screen? Is it really just 1 LCD panel? Does the unused part light up or anything appear on it?
9:22 that stylus twirl was sick
You should do lets refurbs on home consoles.
Such as the Wii or N64 or Gamecube
Great video! Translucent plastic consoles are always awesome
my left trigger is broken, and un responsive. i pulled apart the system and noticed that the trigger button housing is detached. will soldering it work? if so then how can i find the parts?
I really hope you asked them if they wanted any of the photos in it, i sent my old 3ds for repair and they deleted all of my photos that i took as a kid :(
