- This week we keep it in the pawn shop. It was a busy day full of buying and selling precious metals. First, a guy brings in a suspicious Apmex gold bar in that I ended un having to cut in half to see if it was real or not. Next, a guy walks in to sell constitutional silver and silver bars. Lastly, like the last 2 months have been, a guy calls to sells Silver Eagles and we try to get a deal done. So if you enjoy pawn shops & garage sale transactions, this is the channel for you. ive got a few DeWalt tools sitting in their original boxes in the garage...i got them on sale last year & i'll use them when the other tools break. some people just dont need 2 of everything & not everyone is a thief...
if you saw me irl, you would walk over to the other side of the street because PEOPLE ASSUME the worse just because of looks.
you need to stop living like that & start trusting more people imo...the world would be a better place

Cause they realized that they were really high priced Black and Decker tools with a false sticker saying made in US from worldly parts meaning China plus they didn't work aways

Another test you can do is. Have another genuine identical gold bar on hand. Drop both bars and see if the sound pitch is the same. Silver coins have a higher pitch tone than copper.
You should pull out your wands for the Sigma Metalytics, unless you ordered it without them. They need to be ordered with them and calibrated at the factory. The bullion and coin wands do a good job testing smaller gold bars, like the Valcambi gram bars. Plus the XRF machines only scan the surface, and don't really do depth. This is where the Sigma Metalytics shines.
Only 50$ on the gold bar if it sells at market price!
You are absolutely right about the wands. I have good luck with the fractional gold only using the wands.
Yup xrf is only good for surface test of mixed gold melt. Melt to a glob grind a bit then test.

Next time try testing the gold bar with the wand if you have it. I think you would get a more accurate reading with the sigma and wand for small gold bars.

For a pawn shop they give excellent prices! you got to remember they have to hold all that stuff for 30 days before they sell it and a lot can happen to spot price in 30 days. Most pawn shops won't even pay spot never mind 15x's face for junk, these guys rock!

they are high dollar... acid test and experience is the way to buy
not acid test for bullion though... the sigma should be close to 100% for 1 oz.... scales, calipers, magnet, and ultrasonic meter needed also @@thenotoriousmexicanleprech1289

Use the probe on the sigma if you are having a hard time getting an accurate reading the probe works great to find a nice flat spot on coins and bars that's exactly what it is meant for.

Good thing that Apmex 10 gram gold bar was real. What made it so great is he had paper work. I understand why you cut it you just wanted to be on the safe side. It’s real that is a relief.😅
I have the same sigma and I recommend using a wand (either the small or the small bullion ones) for finicky things like that APMEX bar.
