Customer Tries To Sell Me Fake Gold Watches & Prince Saves Me

- This week a customer comes in with an assortment of things trying to sell us and everything isn't what it looks like. Im not sure if he knew what he had wasn't real or if he didn't know and was just as shocked as we were. Two of the piece look so good we almost get fooled if it wasn't for our gold buyer that just so happened to be in the shop at the right time and saves us $1,000 plus dollars. I also go to a yard sale where a guy brings out some gold to sell me and one of the rings is very unusual. So, if you enjoy everything resell or pawn shop related this may be the channel for you.

How can anyone think a pocket watch is gold? They all plated. Doesn’t mean it’s a scam. 1k plating. Jeez. Ruined a watch.

I like the way you treat the customers. I’ve had bad experiences with pawn shops. Most the time they will treat you like crap or try to rip you off but you seem to be very reasonable and respectful.

The ring in the start is from Hawaii. It’s a wedding band it’s rose gold and tantalum. They start from about $1,500. So great buy 🙂

That was really something to see how Prince's gun is not infallible. A good lesson learned I guess.
Those analyzers also wont see through a thick layer of gold. When you see people test larger bars they drill and test the shavings to make sure there isnt tungsten in the center. Not really a issue for jewelry since it's so small but it has been done to 1 ounce coins

Gotta be more careful all the time. The fakes are getting so good it’s hard to tell. Good thing Prince had already seen that one and could help you out.
That's the major problem with the whole gold for currency if SHTF. I am sure there are people with a butt load of fake bullion and such. Cheers
Ol buddy who brought them watches in, knew they weren't solid gold, you can tell by how he was looking over there when he was filing it! But I feel like he knew that it's no good! But with him knowing all about the things he has, he knew it was not legit, I feel.... Ppl try to scam all the time!
You can't be informed about everything, then not know your watch is fake! Just my opinion.
But for him to say that they've never been got, he don't know that to be true, bc they have obviously bought stuff before without testing it, so they can't truly say they've never been got before, bc I'm sure that's not the first watch that's came in and it looked good and was marked 14k, and they bought it without testing it, so they can't say they haven't ever bought any bad gold.....
My father lived by the motto that if you’re not trying to learn something everyday, you’re missing an opportunity to grow. Knowledge gained is never waisted…sounds extremely genuine in the business you run!

Great video guys, my wife is a jeweler and she suggested using a 1mm drill bit to drill into the piece, then do the acid test with the swarf so you capture metal from all depths. She also mentioned to be careful with the fumes from the acid. Safety third !

Pocket watches say “assay” or have a scale on them when they’re solid gold. 25 yr 14k etc means the plating is guaranteed to last 25 years, it’s just a thick plating. Fun to watch, thanks for the content
